lol jk…. but really… These are all different and none are “right”. What can ever be the judge of what is “right” in this case anyways?

No, but, my culture is clearly superior to your culture so nerrrrrrrrrrr

Really though, this thread is ridiculous. People from different parts of the world say the same words differently. This is not new and will never change.

While we’re at it, can I point out that the word is ‘got’ not ‘gotten’. I was once given a red mark (bad) at school in the UK for writing the word ‘gotten’ in an essay, and told it was Americanised slang. Yet I am seeing it more and more written by Brits, not just Americans.

I notice Australians pronounce it “kay” as well

Nope, Aussie’s SHOULD pronounce it as ‘key’. That’s what I was brought up with. If any Aussie’s are pronouncing it as ‘kay’ or ‘kway’ they are using bad english. Seem’s that American’s are the only one’s who pronounce it ‘incorrectly’.

Quay is pronounced Key in English, American or any other language that uses the word Quay for where the boats come in.

Not the end of the world as we know it, but its bad.

None of those words are pronounced wrong. They’re all right. Colour, color, quay, tomato, it doesn’t matter. Stop thinking your way is the only right way, guys, the world is diverse and so are languages, pronunciation included.

Play a Sylvari, problem solved. As far as I’m aware they all pretty much have british sort of accents rather than American. Either way this is a bit nitpicky. You might as well make a topic complaining about Cookies not being called Biscuits.

As an American, the mispronunciations throughout this game don’t drive me crazy like they do folks on the other side of the pond(s), but I would agree that, if the writers insisted on using words from other languages and dialects, they should’ve properly researched their origins enough to have the actors pronounce them correctly. I’m sure if I lived in a country that spoke a Celtic or Scandinavian language and had to listen to characters in a videogame butcher it constantly, I’d probably be annoyed, too.

Look, the particular character that mispronounces quay is Sylvari. The Sylvari are supposed to have British accents. There isn’t a single British person who would pronounce quay as kway.
It doesn’t matter if the game’s produced by an American company, if your voice talent are trying to impersonate British accents, they should use British pronunciation.
I’d say the same for centaur, but as the majority of characters using the word are human, and American accents are the norm for Tyrian humans, I’ll take the mickey out of the pronunciation, but accept is as correct for the accent.

The real travesty is Trebuchet. Seriously, NO-ONE pronounces the “ch” and final “t” hard.
It’s treh-boo-shay.

The voice acting, and by extension sound direction, is definitely one of the weaker aspects of the game. To add to your correct observation regarding “quay”, “Centaur” is pronounced “Cen-tore” not “cen-tar” and “Golem” is “Go-lehm” not “Gollum”.

Not a dealbreaker but cringe-worthy for sure.

You missed Min a tar instead of My nat or (minotour) aaarrrhhhh its sooo irritating to keep hearing, yes I know its a small thing, but……..

Personally, I think each of the races and regional denizens should pronounce those words with their own slight (mis)pronunciations, which would give them more regional quirks to their dialects. Likewise, the pronunciations done by the Asurans and any Priory NPC should always be close to proper while other NPCs could be like, “Wey’ll, dem centaurs been runnin’ in mah land again!”

On the other hand, the pronunciation of words like Jormag and Jotun as said by the Norn does sound awkward. I could understand if those names were mentioned by non-Norn with a J-sound instead of a Y-sound; but the Norn really should pronounce those words how the Vikings and Scandinavians would pronounce them.
