Its only just that warrior rifle 1 has longer range, more damage, longer bleed, nicer animation and same attack speed.
the amount of thumbs up worries me. you really want the same range and damage as a rifle as on a pistol? that takes illogical to a whole new level.

Nobody is asking for the same range, or even the same damage per shot. The obvious problem is that the pistol should shoot faster than it does, for both Thief and Engi.

my two cents, vital shot is in a good spot for P/D because P/D is a power/condi set, and vital shot can stack up to 7s of bleed per shot (new krait runes + sigil of blood), which is a fairly long bleed for an autoattack. the damage itself is a bit meh, but if you want large numbers, you’re on the wrong spec to begin with. and if someone is spending dodges for vital shot, they won’t have dodges for CnD/sneak attack, which are far more threatening skills.
overall, it works well for me. i wouldn’t mind a buff, but i won’t ask for one either. like it was said earlier in the thread, if anything needs a buff on P/D, it’s dancing dagger. even body shot is in a nice spot, IMO (easy immob delays people just long enough for you to decap their point right after they leave and bail, or stacking immob on someone to focus a team burst). took them forever, but i think that one is finally in a decent spot, or at least a useful one.

honestly, if they allow my build to place bleeds any faster, people will start crying nerf. P/D is actually in a much better place than it was when this thread was created, thanks in part to new runes, in part to the new trickery GM trait that lets us stack a bunch of confusion on a low CD.
as for warrior rifle, it’s also a horrible, horrible weapon for condis. the only thing rifle is good for is troll killshot builds, so the longer bleeds aren’t really a problem.
you can’t isolate the skill and analyze it without looking at the whole spectrum. P/D isn’t just vital shot. it’s vital shot, shadow strike, CnD for easy stealth, sneak attack, bewildering ambush with 6 confusion stacks on a 25s CD, and one of the better thief sets for survivability (and arguably the best you can get as far as thief condi cleanse goes). heck, even body shot is good now. low ini, spammable ranged immobilize is nothing to be shunned in a teamfight.
TL;DR: to buff vital shot would be to have other areas of P/D (much more interesting areas) nerfed eventually. just look at necro and ele for the past year. they gave those guys a buff that no one really wanted, and as a result everything else had to be brought down, and now they’re just reverting back to pre-buff.
This thread is dumb, thief already can apply burst conditions and deal over 5k damage per tick. thief doesn’t need buffs/move on to more important matters.

I’d be willing to bet that Bleeing Shot alone with a condi build will out-DPS a well executed Vital Shot/Sneak Attack/Shadow Strike rotation using a similar build from greater range more often than not. Defensive utility is debatable, but not really what’s in question. Thieves rely on having more defensive utility due to their squishiness.

Yeah, except the gap in speed between the two is very large. Faster /= as fast as Ranger Shortbow.
