first I have to say I really appreciate all the great works ArenaNet had done for us, they tried their best to enhance our gameplay experience and I found this game is so amazing that I believe this is the most awesome online game I’ve ever played.

However in this update, the new content frustrated me a lot. Sure it’s lovely to see some more new stuff being put in the game to make the game world more interesting to explore, but in this new sky city, I feel I am being discriminated.

The reason for me to say that is lots of new contents require jumping and they’re in form of jumping puzzle and these puzzles greatly require a good and smooth network to fully enjoy them. These may not troubles you if you live in US, but greatly troubles all those players who are not living in US.

Taking me as an example, I live in Hong Kong. For every single time I use “Super Jump” skill (sorry I can’t remember the name), there must be a 1-2 second(s) delay. “Lightning Pull” is even more severe. 8 out of 10 times my character hangs at mind-air for about 2 seconds when he’s doing the fancy air-jump-rolling, then fall straight into abyss and crush onto the ground.

With these skill delay, I can’t even play normally in the racing mini game. “Lighting Pull” always overshoot or again hangs at mind-air(packet loss maybe?), run pass an obstacle and sudden the game teleports you back to the place where you was 3 seconds ago, “Super Jump” can sometimes made a vertical jump despite you keep pressing “W” key, “Super Dash”(again I forgot the name) can sometimes actually stops you from running(you need to press “W” to run again). When all these things happen to you, how fun it is to play a round of racing mini game!!!

The worst of all is some of them count towards the achievement, with the new achievement point reward system implemented, you’re basically telling me “if you want some good stuffs, go play some more!” which is totally fine for me. But you’re ignoring all those players with not so good/bad network, it is totally confusing and frustrating for us to aim for these achievement and try to play more.

Anet has provided a great update, but the better the update the more it’s going to be tough on those with low end comps and poor connections. This is not something they will always be able to avoid. Every update has not and will not be able to meet everyone’s needs or desires. This is simply an update that you(and me) will not be able to enjoy as well as those with a better setup.

I can only suggest that you enjoy what parts you can and be patient. If more people speak up about this type of problem then Anet will take notice and continue working towards a happy medium.

well gw2 was marketed as an exploration / jumping game. most ppl who beta tested and bought the game to beta test (myself included) knew this.

gw2 is a mix of

combat
social
exploration
puzzles / combat (OS any 1 )
wvw
s/t pvp

now i guess it would be “hard” for keyboard turners and clickers (not being rude its just a fact).

i personally love it and have already done the meta but still got the sanctum sprint achivements to do :P. the scavanger hunt was very nice.
I didnt use any guides and was nice find out how to get some of the crystals (even if some of the jumps felt a little buggy in someplaces).

sadly cant please every one. and will always have whiners

Yeah, I have to say my overall reaction was ‘meh’. The city/map obviously took a lot of work, and it does look nice. But the content for me is pretty much meaningless fluff, and there isn’t a person in my guild who actually likes the jumping puzzles — two updates in a row of jumping puzzles… ugh. I’d rather them do 1 update a month, instead of every 2 weeks, but give it more substance and less filler.

If you are suffering those problems, then it means that you suffer from that in regular gameplay too ?

But to give you a solution for completing the achievements even if you have a horrible connection : be extremely patient. You can travel all the way to the sky without using the wind skill. All you have to do is use the lightning skill, wait a few seconds until you landed, then continue to use it.
You could even get the sky crystal achievement that way.

The dive achievement can also be obtained without too much trouble. The most annoying part would be getting up on the last roof using wind, but since you can’t fall, it’s a matter of patience. Once you are there use lightning on the bamboo (may take a few tries to really see where you need to point).

As for the race, I think it’s annoying for nearly everyone…But aside from the top racer one, it’s just a matter of repeating the race 25 times to get the achievement, and with light travel you’ll probably get to the end and who knows, maybe get extremely lucky and win.

I’m sorry for your connection and I’m sorry for the person who is legally blind. You’re entitled to your opinion but for me this has been one of if not the best update the game has ever seen. The last time I had so much fun in GW was the Mad Kings Clock Tower and Super Adventure Box. I thoroughly enjoyed getting all 40 Sky Crystals needed for the achievement and Ship Model. However, I think they were a bit too easy to acquire. I also think there should be some sort of match making for the Racing Mini Game. You may see one other good racer if you’re lucky that can compete. Or maybe there are just more visually impaired players than I could imagine. But I don’t want to get negative because this update is amazing. I hope with each update we get more of the same. My real concern is that this area is too much fun. I don’t know how they are ever going to top this. Every other update after is a potential letdown after this one.

What gives you the right to judge him in such a manner? Do you mean that he shouldn’t use his eyes at all because they are troubling him? Do you know the circumstances of his case? You must be his doctor then? A little hint, he is not the only one with eye problems, so i am especially sensitive here.

“Total disappointment over this update”…..This is just a bad title for the thread, you should be disappointed with your internet service provider, not the game update. This is one of the best looking and unique updates I have seen from either GW1 and GW2 combined. It has a Cantha feel and seems very refinded and polished.

Some of the jumps are frustrating and ocassionally the lightning pull does not get you to your target location, but the movments are soo cool and unique that I get back up, dust myself on and try it again. You also have to remember to pick your skills wisely and keep charged because the worst is when you make it near a node, and you just used up one of your critical skills. But challenge is good.

I personally suck at the races, but still have fun. If they added crafting to this town, I would never go back to LA. I love that they added a Karma merchant that sells all the fruits and nuts that you normally have to track down througout the world. PLEASE add this guy to LA when the Bazaar leaves!!

They even found out what we have an over abundance of in terms of materials and are giving us the chance to get the market balanced again by being able to purchase boxes with materials and sweets. You can see they are balancing it since the cost per leather is not a straight line as you get to T6. The T5 is very common, so you need a full 250 to purchase a box.

Taking all this into account plus the achievement rewards and panel update,….how can you be disappointed?! Seriously, I think you owe Anet an apology.

And where exactly did Sylv say that “ANet is doing something wrong by releasing content that requires eyes”? He said that some things are more challenging for him than for others, like jumping puzzles, and expressed disappointment over this update having so much of it, which i share. It appears to me that people who commented on his post in such an out-of-context fashion seem to do so to ridicule his post instead of dealing with what was said. And that is that some people have handicaps in one or the other way and are struggling harder with some aspects of this game than other people. The implication that ANet is doing something wrong by releasing content that requires eyes may be silly, but where exactly was it made?

The lack of understanding or compassion for others in this thread is astonishing.

Keep in mind that, while I wouldn’t use the same words as the poster you are quoting, he is right when he hints that not all content is for every player. I don’t like sPvP, but I’m not complaining about the new sPvP map. If my connection was so bad that I couldn’t do jump puzzles, and it has been very bad these last nights, I wouldn’t complain about the jump puzzles in this update – it may not be content for me, but it is nice for other people. Same with those who have some kind of disability – that’s a pity, but not all content in the game will cater to them, just like all content in the game doesn’t cater to me, and that actually improves the game itself.

Can’t believe some people’s responses on this thread. Someone says they find jumping difficult due to a visual impairment and you respond with sarcasm and by telling them they shouldn’t be playing the game. Absolutely disgraceful, no other way to describe it.

You people have no idea about this persons condition or their ability to play the rest of the game so who are you to be so rude?? I suspect most of you don’t even realise how much vision someone who is legally blind can still have so maybe you should check that out before telling someone not to play this game.

To be fair, though, everyone has parts of the game they can do better or less well, and ArenaNet has put out updates covering a huge variety of content. This is a jumping-heavy update, the previous one focused on a lot more dungeon skill than I have, the one before that required a certain amount of time. In any given month it might not be your thing, but there’ll be something else later. I wouldn’t complain when a part of the game I’m less fond of comes up, because other people will enjoy it and maybe I just sit it out.

This coming from a player from New Zealand who has never had more than average trouble with jumping puzzles and is thoroughly enjoying a light-hearted, less combat-focused update. But it’s not for everyone, and that’s fine.

Yeah, this is my only problem with these new movement skills. They are not very lag friendly at all. My internet connection hasn’t been great today, possibly due to a storm with strong winds that just went through, and the lag is extremely noticeable in Sanctum Sprint when using skills. Using normal skills with a bit of lag is not near as bad, but doing Sanctum Sprint or collecting crystals with lag is near impossible.

I could complain that I suffer from a severe form if topographical disorientation, which makes it really hard for me to do jumping puzzles… But it isn’t exactly going to change anything.

I had to accept the fact in my life that I’m simply just going to have to “deal with it”. I would give anything in the world to be able to memorize maps and locations.

Despite my such condition, the update is very nice and I see no reason to complain about it since it is optional.

My apologies for having vicariously upset your feelings, friends. Unfortunately, my sarcasm is rarely met with an understanding of my intentions. In this case however, there be no time to lament the situation, as I remain steadfast in my belief that this thread is utterly… ridiculous.

OP’s title: mystifying.
Leading content: abhorrently unfounded.
Retort: is here.

Now, I realize transforming from avid lurker to forum-warrior in this manner will probably result in my being reported or something of the sort, but I’ll not stand for these bleeding hearts to come to what they see as some valiant rescue, broadening their condemnation against individuals in addition to the sole offender [myself], even before the aforementioned victims could even respond to my disgraceful and judgemental display of a gross lack of compassion or understanding……

[leftstep is having a bad day]

I actually have no quarrel with Zero (your ISP hits me in the feels), nor Sylv (your brain is unfair to you, and that sucks). I was merely pointing out the silly circumstance for the negativity here. Now I feel a duty to exacerbate the situation by smashing down on this irony-fest as forceful as I can muster with a keyboard.

As for my right to judge – I happen to be physically handicapped – it’s why I will never realize my dream to be a fighter pilot, and why soccer never appealed to me…

But I don’t partake in activities that I know I am not equipped for, may it be playing an MMO on dial-up, testing how many colors I can see before I stroke, or simply taking the stairs when the elevator door is open. Certainly, I would have only myself to blame having taken the risk whilst knowing the consequences… It just doesn’t make sense.

That being said – I do believe I should be taking a leave of absence for a year or so..

You were not „merely“ pointing something out but telling others how they should play or not play.

Not everyone can afford the hardware to run this game smoothly and connection issues are outside of the control of players, but you are ridiculing those to whom this applies and call it “sarcasm” – you were not “merely” pointing something out, you were telling others they shouldn’t be playing, again, this is not your right to do.

What is not acceptable to me is the way you treat someone whose exact medical condition you know nothing about, but tell him it’s his own fault if he can’t handle the game and that he shouldn’t be playing. Again, it is not your right to judge here.

I will see my eyesight decline over a course of years and there is nothing that can be done about it. Playing or not playing an online game does not change anything about it. You tell Sylv, who is handicapped, that he has only himself to blame if something happens because he plays an online game. By telling him you tell me, i am not sure if you are fully aware of that. This is going too far, i will not let you ridicule me here. Stop it now.

The problem i have is this; these meta-achievement rewards started out with a good variety of options. Good at jumping puzzles, do those. Not good a jumping? Get your achievements in a dungeon. Dungeon too hard for you? Do these PvE missions. There was a good variety of ways to earn the meta. Now these meta’s seem to be locked behind difficult (pro) content and it’s time limited.

I have yet to check out the achievement list but I certainly hope that ArenaNet didn’t block the acquisition of a permanent resource node behind pro level content and still only give casual players two weeks to earn it. This would definitely give an advantage to people who can log in daily for many hours and seems to be contrary to ArenaNet’s original design philosophy of wanting people to play Guild Wars 2 they way they wanted.

Sanctum sprint seems to be especially prone to lag.

The #3 skill is especially sensitive, and it will often misfire. I hardly every have trouble with lag, even in WvW, but a couple of my races were badly screwed up by lag.

I suspect there is some anti-hack code at work as well, similar to the problems we had jumping off cliffs in WvW that causes the server to teleport you back or interrupt movement.

They gated that quartz node behind an expansion built around jumping. That’s my main complaint.

I managed 40/40 btw, but man does my head hurt. Re: folks saying I shouldn’t play the game: don’t be silly. I can handle most content fine except some dungeons and fractals as I’ve learned techniques to adapt. Jumping is just the worst, because some of them require absolute precision and positioning.

My criticism isn’t, ’don’t do jumping’, my criticism is, ‘I wish you hadn’t gated so much of it behind jumping’. If the response is, ’don’t play the game!’ to ‘I wish they’d shown more variety because my disability makes this particularly frustrating’ then, yes, folks are being silly, and I appreciate the kind words. I’m pretty sure my feedback is just as valid as anyone else’s.

playing it during low peak time, and having the graphic set to lowest can sometimes help. but I know where you are coming from, I know how those feel when they have issue with lantency. and for those who has smooth run, and trying to put down those that has lantency issues, I bet they will scream and swear like hell if they are in the same shoe. I mean I live with this laggy issues for long time and sometimes get frustrated but nothing can be done really and I am still enjoying the game.

I don’t have a connection problem, but for some reason. Anytime I use the new abilities in the new area or even in the race, I suffer from constant rubberbanding. I even had Lightning Pull overshooting and undershooting. Air assist not leaping as high or being hit with invisible walls that seem to only show up when I use the ability. Air Assist loves to do most of the rubberbanding during the race. I even had Light Travel rubber band be to the spot I used it.

This is not enjoyable at all.

Zero – The O in MMO stands for you need a decent connection to the internet. It’s like you’re complaining about how quiet the opera is with earplugs in, or acting confused as to why it’s so hard to pedal your bike with flat tires.

Unfortunately that’s the cold, hard truth. A stable, low-latency and decent broadband connection is almost required to play an MMO. Most even have it on the box. If you can’t have good internet, MMOs are not part of your gaming palette.

WoW became popular mostly because it was the first decent MMO right when broadband became mainstream. There were other factors, but if it released a year earlier or two years later, it wouldn’t have been the current mastodon.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

To contradict the OP…because balance is good…I am having a blast. I don’t entirely enjoy the fact that each update has something to chase around various maps (holograms, doors, kites etc) though I appreciate why they are there, and I do them because frankly I am greedy, but overall I consider this a very good update, and can’t wait to see where things go.

…with the new achievement point reward system implemented, you’re basically telling me “if you want some good stuffs, go play some more!”

Yea I’m also sick of this! I want rewards without playing! NOW!

Seriously? O_o

There seems to be some actual issue with any type of fast movement skill (jumping, charging, etc.) and connection latency (this may NOT be directly related to your average ping but more to internet “hops”…that will of course effect the actual latency during a particular skill activation and resulting client/server synchronization).

My main question to those that are having these issues is what home server are you using? If you are in HK using a UK based server, are you not inviting connection latency issues? I get that in an ideal situation you should be able to pick whatever world server you want, but in the real world, data does take some time to move back and forth. Also, I am in no way aware of what server availability ANet has provided for these customers, so I understand that could certainly be the root of why a world server based halfway around the world is being used.

A player could have a OC-48 connection to the internet and if his path to the sever he is playing on goes thur a several dozen routers (that potentially could be throttling bandwidth) with an actual physical path of thousands of miles, he’s going to get latency. Your connection speed to the internet is only one of many factors involved in where latency would possibly be introduced during a play session. Does a faster connection help? It certainly could, but it’s not the only factor.

It has nothing to do with your connection. I live in us and have perfectly clear internet yet i have same problems like you.

Just out of curiosity, what world server are you playing on and is it US based or possibly very high population? I think a lot of these complaints (not saying they aren’t valid) don’t take the answer to this question into account.

first I have to say I really appreciate all the great works ArenaNet had done for us, they tried their best to enhance our gameplay experience and I found this game is so amazing that I believe this is the most awesome online game I’ve ever played.

Hey Friend you can use to many programs to low latency, i Live in South America and use Battleping.

So, you can do the same and Im sure you will fix you latency problems

I do agree that when the lag kicks in, these JP becomes really frustrating.!!
but.. jumping puzzle is one of the core of the game. gotta learn to accept.
though i find it strange that we cant use skill while in the air, and we got no air combos, or air combat..

The problem is that ANet should think more of their “outside-US” players before they release something new. With the minigame is considered un-do-able, you’ve made lots of players fail to enjoy what they suppose to have the right to enjoy. This is about fairness among all players.

You guys early in the thread don’t get it. It’s not about whining when people are having issues with the new content, nor is it about leaving a snooty-kitten reply to the OP and people that sympathize with that person. I have a friend in Argentina that has really bad latency/warping issues with this new content. It has nothing to do with her Gaming PC or her great internet speed and it may, JUST MAY, be her connection to the Guild wars 2 servers from Argentina. Who knows, there may be extra digital handshaking going on between her ISP and the gaming server for whatever reason. She enjoys a lot of the other content without lag or warping in-game but the new bazaar jumping crystals in particular are giving her problems like the OP was talking about. Also I’ve heard Hong Kong actually has SUPER GOOD internet for gaming so please stick that in your hats and wear them.

And yes, Arenanet has made this game available to people all over the world so it’s okay if someone outside of the United States asks for help to get the same experience that some of our more “noble” respondents (see: spoiled, self-centered jerks) get on the regular. In other words, it could be Server-Side issue. I’m on an old 2008 iMac in the middle of the U.S. with substandard internet for gaming and I don’t have any issues with the Jump Puzzles or the jumping crystals in GW2 (though I haven’t been able to enter sanctum sprint for some reason). but I have latency, lag or warping issues with other stuff. It may have to be a kink that’s worked out with future updates.

Zero – The O in MMO stands for you need a decent connection to the internet. It’s like you’re complaining about how quiet the opera is with earplugs in, or acting confused as to why it’s so hard to pedal your bike with flat tires.

And Sylv! You should not be playing these games if you’re disabled in such a manner. Diabetics shouldn’t slam carbs, either.

This thread dumbfounds me.

This is very low and greatly disrespectful! Does it say on the box of the game that if you have problem with their fps network or eye issues not to play this game? Games are for every one and I totally agree with this person. Their network not being that good. My friend who play with me is from Europe and the lag for her is horrible I can even see her having spike lag movement on my side and remember when Karka decided to invade Lion Arch… Anyway you sir or mam should consider learning some manners and respect toward other people situation. One day you will have health issue like everyone and think how you will feel if someone tell you such a think toward something you want to live and have the right like anybody else.

YES!, It does state on the box…

“Broadband Internet Connection Required”
(which is clearly a ‘stable’ connection, and this game isn’t distributed or supported in Hong Kong , an area the OP is in)

And on the installation manual it reads:

* Photosensitive Seizures
SEIZURE WARNING—Please read before playing the Product or allowing your children to use it.

Some people are susceptible to seizures or lose of consciousness when exposed to certain flashing lights, flashing images, or light patterns in everyday life.

Such people may have a seizure while watching television images, playing certain video games, or when exposed to certain light patterns, flashing lights, or flashing images. This may happen even if the person has no medical history of seizure or epliepsy, or has never had any seizures. If you or anyone in your family has an epileptic condition or has ever had symptoms related to epilepsy (seizures or lose of consciousness) when exposed to flashing lights or patterns, consult your doctor prior to playing.

Symptoms of seizures include: dizziness, lightheadedness, altered vision, jerking or shaking of the extremities, loss of awareness, confusion, twitching, disorientation, or full convulsions. Convulsions can lead to other injuries by causing an individual to fall off a chair and/or strike objects nearby.

If you experience any of the aforementioned symptoms of a seizure while playing. STOP PLAYING AND CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY. Parents should ensure their children are not experiencing symptoms.

Precautions to take during use:
* Avoid playing if you are tired or have not had much sleep.
* Make sure that the room in which you are playing is well lit.
* Rest for at least 10 to 15 minutes per hour while playing the Product.
* Do not stand too close to the screen.
* Sit at a good distance away from the screen, as far away as the length of the cable permits.

With that warning (which is NOT a copy-paste, but a read off from the actual physical manual), and the one about the connection, …oh, and want another additional informational piece: https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9184/kw/region

There will be 3 major regional designations for the release of Guild Wars 2:

Europe: Defined as Western Europe and Eastern Europe. Players in these regions connect to the European datacenter.
North America: Defined as Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Players in these regions connect to the North American datacenter.
Other: Players in countries not listed above will connect to the North American datacenter.

With all that….there should be no point to this thread at all. I’m sorry, but this is a VISUAL VIDEO GAME and it’s played ONLINE through US SERVERS.
