Brainstorming: the worthless gems problem
1. Gem-> Gold conversion gives exact amount in coins instead of limiting it to integers of gold.
Yeah I don’t understand why they changed that, I believe everyone liked it. However didn’t they added a custom button to the gems UI? (I haven’t payed attention to it… only remember the news about it).
2. Offer a consumable for 1 gem in the gem store. This could be an essence of luck or a large loot bag. Something that is already easily obtainable in-game is preferential.
I’m not sure about this, even if it is 1 gem anyone could buy 800 loot bags, just as an example:
The gold gain from this is minimum, you have an 80% chance of gaining between 3-5 copper (something around 19 silver with the minimum, I believe).
However you can still get a good amount of T5 materials and silk scraps, it might be too easy to promote those mats to T6 and gain lots of gold, driving both material prices way down (imagine everyone buying at least 10 bags with their spare gems).
Well that’s how I see it, I’m no economist, but I would go with option 1. The 1 gem option seems to be too problematic.

Ever since the new gem-gold interface was released, people have been having oddball amounts of gems that are actually completely worthless. They are too low of an amount to buy anything with, not even coins. I can’t say for sure how ANet feels on this, but the players do see it as a problem. Perhaps not at the top of their lists, but a problem nonetheless.
Edit: Lol I feel like an idiot, misunderstood it. Sorry for being a kitten. :

I’m well aware of that button. However, right now, try to convert 9 or fewer gems. Guess what? You can’t do it. Any quantity of 9 or fewer gems right now is completely worthless. You can’t buy anything with them, and you can’t convert them to coins.
@ghost: They did add a custom amount button, but unless you have enough gems to buy 1 gold integers, you can’t do anything.

Not sure if trolling or just inattentive to the actual issue at hand with that picture. :\
Trading gems for gold used to give a very exact amount of currency. Now it does not. So not only do we have ‘worthless’ gem amounts, but those who actually bought gems (and supported the game with cash money profit revenue) are getting short-changed.
As a consistent support of the game, this angers me.
It also discourages me from selling gems for gold. If enough people feel the same as I do, that’s going to result in higher gem prices (and gold sinks?) for everyone who buys gems with gold.
Sadly, without forty pages of outrage on this topic, I doubt we’ll see a change. This also angers me.
