I see a bunch of buy orders for items that are listed on the Trading Post for exactly the vendor value or sometimes even lesser. I’ve noticed this with some cooking materials, logs, leathers, and some gems. Just so these people know, you will never get those items. The Trading Post does not allow players to put or sell items for the vendor price or below vendor price. So have fun waiting forever wondering why no-one is selling those items.

You seem antagonistic against those guys… does that bother or affect you in any way?

I am notkitten at them since it doesn’t affect me in any way, shape or form. It’s just funny imagining them sitting there thinking why their buy order hasn’t been fulfilled yet. And it’s not just one person either, it’s multiple buyers who have put in the same price, which is what makes it funny.

I just came here to post about this myself, actually. Since these orders can never be filled, it seems strange that the system allows them to be posted in the first place. It also makes it harder to get an at-a-glance indication of the actual value of the item.
I think that the sell page for an item should show the vendor price somewhere obvious, too.

If an item posted at vendor +1c is not selling, that’s a pretty strong indication on the actual value of the item. If actual value is higher, people would had bought it.

I think this is mainly done to manipulate the demand list in the Trading Post buy window. You can safely post these requests as they will never be filled, meaning you can get your money back with a few simple clicks.

No clue on how this should work in practice because of the current flood of stockpiled items from when the Trading Post was dead for more than a week, but I imagine that if at one point the stockpile runs out the prices would rise because of the fake high demand.

Pretty sure someone with more knowledge on this subject could elaborate on this, I guess.

Why would I want to sell an item at value+1c? Even for something as cheap as 2c (vendor value), I would need to sell it at 4c to actually not lose any money thanks to the TP fees.

And I would agree that people shouldn’t be able to make buy offers for things below the vendor value. Nobody can sell those (the system simply does not allow it, even if you wanted), so they only distort the value overview.

Stock is only 1 factor of supply…the source of supply is loot drops. If stock is cleared, price might move up a little. If the item is useless/near trash, price will drop back down to vendor price. As my post above, goods cluttering can be of 1 reason, the rate of it being generated (supply rate) is much higher than consumption rate (demand), hence it clutters. Even if you remove the stockpile, it doesn’t change the fundamentals of it. If you can’t sell it fast enough at vendor price, you won’t sell it fast enough at a higher price…thus it will drop back down.

@poke, convenience. When you’re on the field and loots are dropping so fast, you can either destroy it, or sell it at market. I’ve been in events that dropped items that I have to clear my inventory 3 times just to make space all while fighting

It’s a bug, the buy order should be locked to minimum of +1c, Arenanet dev response in one of the other posts if you want to look for it.
