Concerning Beets:
Getting 100 stacks of them on buy order will be a little more than 10 min work, as you will propably be overbid many times until 25k beets have been dumped into the market. Another good tip that hasnt been mentioned is to check the crafting guides at www.gw2crafts.net to see, if an item you want to invest in, is included in one of its crafting guides. If it is (Beets are not), demand is usually steady. I use this quite often also to see what kind of gear people are crafting, that use the guides. For example, if I want to buy armor that salvages into linen or armor components made from linen (to flip).

Concerning daily profits on the TP:
200g per day is definately possible if you diversify your portfolio good enough. It will be hard to do so, if you only have 50g on hand and expect to make 200g profit with just flipping items. But if you spend your time wisely with crafting, salvaging, opening lootbags, forging while you wait to get in buy orders to flip, you maximise your profits per hour. I also think the highest profit margins come from speculating. I buy alot of items every LS patch that i will just store and sell later on. So i have over 1000 bank slots dedicated to that and usually i will be selling some of that stuff off every day with profit margins well beyond 300%. As an example, i bought 2 stacks of recipes for celestial exalted coats back in July/August for 50-100s each and then started selling in November for 30g and I had at least 1 stack of every other celestial recipe in my bank as well. So in November alone, i made more than 500g per day just selling celestial recipes.

But if you want to get into the TP game because you like it and would rather farm your on there than somewhere else, i think 50g profit per day is a good goal you should set yourself. 50g is more than you will ever need on a daily basis. 20g you can use for daily expenses, for example to craft your ascended gear or buy ingredients towards your next legendary. The other 30g you can use to put into long term investments (which will raise your profits per day in a couple of months time), to buy influence to expand your guild bank space or to buy gems (i think i bought over 70k gems with gold now, since release.

If you want to make some profit, i would suggest to check out all those limited items that got reintroduced with the ultimate citizens rescue bag.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ultimate_Citizen%27s_Rescue_Bag

As it is confirmed that it will not drop anymore, this weekend is the last chance to grap some of those items on buy order cheaply or to buy out a significant amount of supply on the tp without the chance of it resupplying rather quickly.

As a disclaimer, i already invested alot of gold into those items, so i dont mind them going up in price after this post. I would invest more but i am out of gold right now and dont have anything in my guild vault that makes sense to sell now.

As general advice on how to profit on LS updates in general:

I made alot of gold in the last 3 1/2 weeks salvaging items that drop from the ultimate rescue bag.

Air Filtration Devices (all armor classes) gives you a chance to salvage ectos as well as a superior rune of antitoxin (there are at least 11 more items in game that are rare but hold an exotic upgrade component to salvage). The Rune itself tanked alot in price due to this and is available for under 1g compared to its crafting value of 2g (needs 50 toxic spore samples which are 1.5g), so it might be a good investment by itself, considering there are mayor changes to be expected concerning runes with the feature update. Since Escape from LA update, i salvaged more than 2k of those aqua breathers and at some point, it was even profitable to buy them directly and sell the salvaged runes to the bidder. Right now, i have the mayority of my stock of these runes listed at 1.5g and i have no doubt about selling them within 2 months as the price of Pristine Toxic Spore Samples is only to go up.

Sentinel Gear was another big profit maker. You might not have noticed, but the droprate of exotic sentinel got upped significantly with the rescue bag. Before this, all supply of non crafted sentinel gear were leftovers from the molten alliance LS, so they were scarce and pretty expensive. But with Escape from LA, the supply exceeded demand for a couple of days because nobody knew about the fact that exotic sentinel inscriptions and insignias are indeed salvageable from exotic sentinel gear (just like any other exo inscr/insig that is not craftable). I bought several hundred of exotic sentinel weapons between 1-1.5g and salvaged them to get ectos and a chance of sentinel inscriptions (around 50% with BLSK and 25% with master/mystic), the same goes for exotic armor between 2-3g, if they had cheap runes on them but nothing feels better to salvage 1 sentinel insignia, 1 divinity or traveller rune and a couple of ectos and dark matter from an item i just purchased for 7-9 gold. I used up all my supply of BL salvage kits for this and then started using masters and still made a couple of gold profit.
Due to this process, sentinel insignias and inscriptions tanked a bit but they will recover and i think any item that will show up, if you filter the tp for “exotic” and “sentinel” will rise in price in the next month, unless it is a crafted item.
Buy orders start at 1.5g and sell listings are as low as 2.25g with most of the gear having an all time high of over 15g before the had no supply anymore.

For sentinel gear, i have no interest right now, except a couple of sell listings that didnt sell at over 10g but its peanuts compared to what profit i made in the last 30 days.

The last area to invest in are recipes. The Ultimate Citizens Rescue Bag had quite alot of them on the loot table. Celestial (not recommended to invest in), zealot (exotic) and keepers (ascended, recommended), runes of antitoxin (recommended), toxic nourishments (recommended), masterwork cooking recipes (recommended) as well as marjories chili.

For the first couple of weeks, you will just get profit off other speculators from those recipes but that is normally enough to make 100-300% profit, even more, if you wait until people consume the supply.

There are 2 reasons why i post this:

First of all, i got alot of stock in most of these items, so i dont mind you guys driving the price up. Second of all, i invested all my money but i still think there is profit to be made in these markets, i would still invest, if I had spare gold.

To be fair, there are exploits on the TP that have been there since the start of the game, but they help you save money rather than make it.

But I think OP is just lumping all ‘tp players’ as exploiters so he’s just trollin.

Just wondering, what people think of the upcoming rune and sigil changes.
Personally i dont have invested anything yet except in Runes of Antitoxin (which got available far under crafting value due to salvaging them from rare Aquabreathers that dropped from the Ultimate Citizens Rescue Bag in the last 2 LS updates).
I also dont intend to invest in any Runes or Sigils right now, as I am moving servers and have to clear out 3 guild vaults before doing so, so inventory space is tight right now, as well as gold (already spent over 750g just in listing fees and i am halfway done, as most of my items are longterm speculative items, i have to post them at a value that i intended to sell them when their demand is highest, mostly aiming at Jeweler and Cook 500 and items that had a high drop rate from the Ultimate Citizens Rescue Bag and are not dropping anymore).

Back on point:
The easy thing to do would be buying up all the cheap sigils and runes that are available right now but i dont think its a safe bet. From now on until the feature patch, most prices will be influenced solely by speculators like you and me, creating what i call artificial demand. No doubt, there is profit to be made with this, we all saw what happened with some prices when we had the first info of this on Ready Up back in January and everybody thought the change would be during the next update.

But personally, i think, the real profit is made by knowing which runes and sigils will be popular to be used (and subsequently soulbound by using, creating real demand instead of artificial demand by speculators).
In order to know this you need to speculate on the change of the meta for certain aspects of the game.
Personally i engage in wvw the most, so I have a good look into runes and sigils that might be viable there.
With Stacking Sigils giving 5 charges per kill in pvp and wvw, that sigil which gives me 5 seconds of quickness after i killed 5 enemies seems pretty OP now, if you are a member of a wvw guild that busts zergs and might get over 25 kills per minute in a fight (nearly perma quickness).
Also some 6th rune procs seem pretty OP, now that they buffed their chance from 5 to 50%.

Right now, you can probably make speculative profit on most runes and sigils but thats not what this post is about.
As mentioned earlier, I am pretty uninvolved in this market right now but I am interested in everybodies opinion, why you think a certain rune or sigil will dominate the meta in certain aspects of the game, be it wvw (all playstyles, or high dps for dungeon speedruns, etc.).
I was wondering to open a new topic for this but i think its a good thing to bump this topic as it includes some gratinfo in general.

Agree that it’d be good to start a new thread re: runes and sigils.

I think it’s a little late for proper speculation, as many people snapped up runes/runes sigils when they were at or near cost months ago. There is room for secondary speculation as prices drop again over next week or so, but they probably won’t drop to the level they were at.

I also mostly WvW so can only speak on that front, but I see chill and other cc to continue to be part of the meta, and thus a demand for runes sigils that proc chill, cripple, etc.

In terms of PvE, I’d love others’ thoughts.

Even during times of huge demand for Mithril Ore, this mat is just so easily farmable that no one I’m aware of has ever been able to push the price above 1 silver for more than a few minutes

Isn’t Iron easily farmable and until recently also below 1 silver? How is mithril different? Legitimate question I’m still new to this.

Farming doesn’t mean going out in the world and mining it, if that was it then iron would always be cheaper than mithril. Farming means farming stuff that salvages into mithril or iron, and the grand majority of players farming are level 80 so there is a ton more of mithril salvaged from items than iron. Specially when there are huge farm events like the battle for LA packed with mostly lvl 80s chain killing stuff, the battle for LA single handedly tanked the price of silk while it was going on.

I’m fine if people know what I invest in – they will just raise the price even further when they buy it
I bought some select runes and sigils. sigils, I did ones that I think will become much more useful in the update. most of the ‘on crit’, a lot of ‘gain stat charge on kill’, a couple of ‘on weapon swap’.
as for runes, I mostly did the mid-costly ones. expensive ones are more likely to be nerfed, and dirt-cheap ones are usually dirt-cheap because they are too easy to get. the 10s-1g ones I felt would increase the most.
I didn’t invest a lot – not super confident about it. about 1000g total. my dye investments from last month are what I’m banking the most on.

Anybody following the threads about the changes in the China version and talk about syncing the feature set between the Chinese and International versions. We knew something was up with dyes. We knew the Chinese version had account unlocked dyes.

Next logical step was to stock up on mats used in making dyes. Wasn’t a bad guess. You got to avoid the Tuesday rush at least.
