But who carries silver ore around all the time? 1/2 silver I can get behind at the same gem price as the copper fed. Full silver, no way unless they bumped up the recovery stats.

I wasnt comparing to mystic salvage kits in my exampe. I was comparing to yelloow kits in stacks of 25 wich is 15 silver ea (not counting the 6-8 silver for the travel to get them). If u use Both the copper-fed and the selver-fed (silver-fed for rares and exotics only) – THEN u save Money. Do the maths again and u’ll see.
The mystic forge-stones i can use for a better purpose now.

Master kits are 15.36s per 25. The Silver-Fed is 25s per 25 plus it costs 500 gems.

I think the most rares/exotics I ever had dropped on me in one game session was 12. And since I always end my session in a city, there is no problem getting master kits. And Mystic kits are good for 250. Of course if you buying Mystic Forge Stones at the Gem Shop then Mystic kits price does go up quite a bit.

Best price for MFS is 45 gems each. A Mystic kit needs 3 and the 3 highest priced kits to make one. So that’s 135 gems and 26.24s. 135 gems is around $1.69 or as of “now” (17.11g per 100 gems) around 2310s bringing the total close to 2335s per kit or 9.35s per use.

The Silver-Fed costs $6.25 or 8555s in gems plus 1s per use. This makes break even at around 1025 uses. But only if you buy Mystic Forge Stones. I have a half a stack that I got for free so far in the game from dailies and achievement chests.

So what have we learned today. The per salvage costs are;

10.50c per use – Mystic kit made with free Mystic Forge Stones
61.44c per use – Master Kit
100c per use – Silver-Fed kit + one time 500 Gems
~935c per use – Mystic kit made with Gem Shop Mystic Forge Stones bought with gold.

Dude, you need to read more carefully.

15.36 / 25 = 0.6144

That’s 61.44 coppers per use.

Master’s salvage kit is the “yellow kits” you’re talking about.

The Silver-fed S-O-M costs 38.56 more coppers per use than a master’s salvage kit. You would have to spend 9s 64c in travel costs buying a master’s kit before it equals the cost of using a Silver-fed S-O-M. You would have to travel to the furthest city on the map to buy one master salvage kit before the Silver-fed S-O-M could start saving you money.

There are merchants on every open world map that sell salvage kits, there are no maps where it costs anywhere near 4s 82c (9s 64c divided by two) to travel from waypoint to waypoint.

The only way you can wind up spending that much on waypoints is if you jump between waypoints several times or if you go outside the map (and you’d have to go really far too, like from Iron Marches to Caledon Forest kind of far).

Even traveling to the nearest city wouldn’t cost that much.

The only way you will ever save money using the SFSoM is if you’re deliberately spending too much in travel costs, it is otherwise impossible for the SFSoM to save you money.

And in case you don’t know where I got the 9s 64c number from, it’s how much you have to add to the price of the master’s salvage kit (15s 36c) for it to equal 25 silvers (so 25 uses for 25 silvers is 1 silver per use).

Even your estimate of 6-8 (which I’m assuming is round-trip costs, because there is no single jump that costs that much) silvers per travel doesn’t work out.

Also show us your math so we know exactly what mistake you’re making and can point it out, your “do the math” makes no sense because everyone has done the math and it all says you’re wrong.

There is a discussion on reddit about the wastefulness of the Silver-Fed Salvage-o-Matic.

I just bought it. I used it. And figured, “Why did I waste 500 gems and ~3g to salvage 500+items and make no profit? When I could have wasted 1.5g on 10+ Master Kits to achieve the same result (less if I use/craft a Mystic Kit)?”

This might be the best item on the Gem store that effectively makes you poorer without you realizing it. Please make it slightly beneficial somehow because the Copper-Fed actually saves you both time and coins.

Yeah, the Copper-fed Salvage-o-Matic is fantastic and does save you money. The Silver -fed costs you quite a lot. Just buy Master’s salvage kits for those rares and exotics. You’ll have the same efficiency while saving a lot of coin.

That said, the Copper-fed SoM is equivalent to a Basic salvage kit.

This topic is entirely about the SFSoM, not the copper-fed one (which nobody claims doesn’t save you money).

Also it’s not the SFSoM that’s saving you money, it’s you changing your salvaging behavior that’s saving you money.

Now consider the following:

Basic salvage kit cost per use: 3.52c

Copper-fed salvage-o-matic cost per use: 3c

Master salvage kit cost per use: 61.44c

• Master salvage kit cost per use with 4s round-trip cost appended: 77.44c

Silver-fed salvage-o-matic cost per use: 1s

So whenever you use the CFSoM, you’re saving 0.52c, but when you use the SFSoM you’re losing at least 22.56c (compared to using the master kit, assuming you go to a merchant on the map and only buy one kit each time); if you use both SoMs, every time you use the silver-fed one you’re basically burning away the savings from 44 white/blue/green salvages.

Not only does the SFSoM not save you money, it’s eating into the money you save using the CFSoM – and unless you have terrible drop rates it’s likely completely preventing you from saving any money with the CFSoM.

The sad part is anet is already laughing to those who bought it impulsively. Not sure but i think they dont have any plans on changing it. They even do not recognize it as a problem.

The SFSoM is what it is, guys. If you’re angry because you bought it and then realised it’s a worse deal than just using Master’s/Mystic Kits, buyer’s remorse is not something that ANet is responsible for. Make sure you always do your research before slapping money down for something.

Would I like to see the SFSoM improved? Sure! I’d probably even buy one if it was equal to or better than the Mystic Kits. But I’m not going to waste my time and anger waiting for it to happen. I’m sure ANet is well aware of our thoughts on the issue. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens down the line, if the SFSoM is ever re-released.

I bought one and DO regret it…..Just can’t bring myself to use it while I have a dozen Mystic Kits in my bank…..right next to the item in question…..that never gets used.

Think of this as paying 500 gems to permanently remember to do research on things before buying anything.

Reduced the cost per use of the Silver-Fed Salvage-o-Matic to 60 copper.

New maths please XD

Well, it’s a decent buy now, but still not worth it to me considering I have 300 Mystic Forge Stones still remaining in my bank.

I also find it amusing that the Silver Fed Salvage-o-Matic no longer requires silver.

its complete bogus now. it should be 500 gems for copper fed and 800 for silver fed. lesson learned here is to hold out on purchases for better deals. Its only a matter of time before " gold fed salavage-o-matic" comes out for 100 gems with bltk salavage kit stats

I’m HOPING that a permanent BLSK item is introduced. (Of course, it could have drastic consequences on the upgrade market, so I’m not sure it ever will be.)

@meklin: I might end up doing that one day. I will need to salvage a lot of Ectos to build up enough Crystalline Dust for my Ascended crafting.
