The more I think about it, the more I think that this is a big issue.

Since listings never expire, it means that instead of an active market, the trading post has become a stockpile. As a result supply on many items is exceeding demand and prices are rock bottom accordingly.

Crafting is probably the best example. People craft to level their disciplines and throw what they make on the Trading Post. It then sits there (effectively) forever, permanently forcing new listings lower and lower.

This leads to a situation where it is very difficult to make a profit crafting, thus making crafting disciplines redundant or worthless.

So, agree or disagree?

I’m afraid I disagree. How would an expiration date help with the problem you’ve described? Wouldn’t the crafted items go from sitting in the TP to sitting in the pickup/inventory/bank of the poster? On top of that, you would lose the gold you initially paid for the listing. I, personally(and I’m sure many others), use the TP as ways to get rid of crafted items that I have no use for rather than have them waste precious inventory or bank space.

some items such as precursor are expensive. if there is expiry, i’m sure people will start spamming LA to find a buyer before listing it on TP. i’m sure, you will not want that to happen b/c that things was in GW1 and it suck

I’m afraid of tradespam as well, but I would have to agree than infinite duration on a listing is ludicrous.

One alternate solution is extremely simple, though: maximum number of listings. If you fill 2-3 pages with Sell orders, give the player a message instead of letting them list anything else.

This would also make it much harder for market manipulation by players that buy up mass quantities to raise the price on a good just to resell at that higher price, simply because there’s a limit to how many they can sell or buy at once.

When an item gets returned to the person who listed it, they then have two choices:
– Relist it.
– Do something that destroys the item. Be it vendoring, salvaging, mystic forge, or something else.

If they chose to relist, chances are the price has gone down. So they’ll pick a lower price. Everyone has a price that it too low to be worth relisting. Very few people will relist it when an order of the lowest possible price has expired.

On the issue of trade spam, that can be mitigated with a long enough duration. 90 days seems long enough.

as i’ve said above. with the listing expiry:
sellers will not bother to list low lvl items or materials because time consuming and low profit.
sellers will also not list items like precursor(dawn/dust) because listing cost and expiry. these items sometime need weeks or months to able to sell.

in a long run, there will only fast sell and mid-range items left on market and LA become spam sell place.
