Why more people don't play Charr - The Simple Answer.
It seems to me that in many games you’ll find more humans/humanoids played than any other race. Does anyone know the breakdown of race for WoW? Did the Horde get a big population boost when the Blood Elves came on the scene, for example?

It’s actually a lot more even than I would have expected…
I do remember a time, however, when Horde-side was very, very heavily skewed toward Blood Elves.
I don´t play the Charr because I have played GW1. The way they tried to make the Charr look like good guys is funny. I know a lot can happen in 200 years. In gw1 their culture wasn´t really better than the Grawls and now they have tanks and guns. They are not smarter than humans or asurans. They are just creative in technology which is made for killing(normal for a predator race). Ascalon does not look as good as 200 years ago. The Charr seems just preparing for the next great war. I´m not a vegetarian but I know that for generating meat/flesh you need much more land than for corn and if their population is rising they need more land. In my point of view the Charr are the same beasts as 200 years ago but we luckely got a peacefull time.
If we didn’t have the ability to play gigantic friggin’ vikings aka Norns I would’ve picked Charr for my main, no doubt about it.
Do you even lift, bro?
Black Citadel is my favourite capital. And not being biased since my main is a Charr. It fits the Charr perfectly. Intimidating, grim, it almost bullies and challenges you (especially if you are low level).
But I don’t believe it’s the reason people don’t pick Charr. Give it 10-15 levels, people won’t visit it again. People only make Norn and Human because ‘they look cooler’. And have less clipping issues.
The citadel…
I don’t find the Charr capital city confusing to navigate, although it took me some practice to remember at what point in the circle the spiral staircases start so I didn’t end up running 3/4ths of the way around one. It’s pretty well laid out. (I also don’t understand the people who get lost in downtown Rata Sum. For crying out loud, it’s trilaterally symmetric and everything you actually need is close enough together to all show on the minimap at once. What do you want, egg in your beer?)
My problem with the Black Citadel is that it absolutely wrecks my graphics card. If I spend more than a few seconds anywhere near the central core of the Black Citadel, my framerate drops from around 30 dps to less than 1, it turns into a total slideshow. I can temporarily fix this by forcing my gfx settings down to Best Performance and then back to Recommended, but it just does it again a few seconds to at most a minute later. When I have to run through the Citadel, like when I’m grabbing the exploration bonus on a new alt, I end up turning the gfx to Performance and leaving them there until I leave – and (imho) this game looks awful on Best Performance gfx.
Answering only the OP – I find the Citadel to be incredibly simple. It’s MUCH easier than the Sylvari or Asura areas, to me. And faster to get around in than the human city.
