Doubts about the design of Legendary Weapons
Agree. I saw The Minstrel and pretty much went “Woo, it’s a harp, guess I won’t be wasting time making that”. Meteorlogicus, pardon my spelling, is pretty disappointing too. The skin looks pretty cool, but it literally does nothing. No new spell animations, no footprint, no (visible) particle effects, nothing.
Look at the Mace.

It’s a friggin’ disco ball!

Nothing wrong with that, if it lit up and rotated maybe.

It is plenty wrong. Why should players that want to use maces be punished by a “joke” weapon while players who want to use greatswords get this really awesome, or dare I say, legendary-looking weapon?
The disco ball skin belongs in the Gem Store for teh lulz, not on a Legendary.

Same thing with the pistol – it’s hard to look legendary when you’re wielding a clown gun. Unless you’re a maniac clown named The Joker.
Sadly, i doubt those legendaries will be touched. The design was long and noob creators so proud of it to not even think about redisign the junk they made.
Wouldn’t surprise me if they will stay as now, and we can just hope on new legendaries to get something cool.
Personally I don’t get the obsession over leaving footprints, ort the beleif that making them all the same in that regard will make any of the better. IF anything it would make all of them a non-descript set.
They each need their own awesome. Some of them deliver that better than others, but copying the awesome back and forth is not helping the design of Legendaries as a whole.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

I don’t think they will change any current designs because there are probably quite a few people that enjoy the concept of rather extravagant legendaries.
I think it’s more likely that they will release more seriously ’’legendary’’ looking legendaries for gag weapons like The Moot and Quip and such (and maybe even the other way around for the greatswords and other good-looking ones).
Of course this doesn’t have to mean that there should be a Sunrise and Twilight for every weapon type. I’m sure they can come up with an equally epic, yet different concept for each weapon.
Though to at least give those who got a gag legendary and were disappointed a chance, I’d say you should be able to salvage a legendary to at least get the Gift of Mastery and Gift of Fortune back. Perhaps even an MF recipe like Legendary A + Gift of Legendary B + X Mystic Coins + X Philosopher’s Stone = Legendary B.
But I didn’t shoot the thackeray
I’m cool with the gag weapons.
Nothin like watching ponies farting rainbows flying across the screen.
The steps should’ve been used for smaller weapons, imo, instead.
That way on an asura you can at least somehow tell.
Minstrel doesn’t even have particle effects. Skritt wouldn’t even be attracted to it. It’s got no SHINY!

This is exactly what I hope they will do. I’m fine with having legendaries that are more “gag” flavor, like quip and the moot, but it would be nice to have epic looking ones too. I also agree that it would be fun to have gag legendaries for the ones that currently look epic as well.
Anyone seen Infinite Light? It’s a highly stylized sword that glows when wielded, and gold dust falls off of it when in motion. It looks immensely butt-kicking, enough to make it a legendary in its own right, but it’s just an exotic. Minstrel does nothing besides look good, and even that’s debatable.
Everyone has seen Infinite Light – every harpy on Tyria has one.
And yes, I’m hunting the mats for it far more seriously than I’m pursuing any legendary…

For me The Minstrel is far better then Sunrise. Why?
Minstrel is for “magical use” – notes, chicken are ok.
Sunrise and Twilight are (except when sword is used by mesmer) for fighting. Effect is… ok, but sword blade… Normal Iron Greatsoword looks more like sword.
Most of the legendaries look like crap. I don’t even like the look of sunrise that much. Twilight is ok. Bifrost is fairly neat. The Dreamer is hilarious. Bolt’s probably my favorite, but there’s no way I am spending 3.5-4g per charged lodestone when you need 100 for it. The legendary spear looks pretty cool. That’s about it.
I am actually currently working on Jormag’s Breath, since it doesn’t interfere with legendary collection all that much and I really enjoyed the Icy Dragon Sword skin in GW1. I would also like to get Foefire’s essence but that’s a side project due to charged lodestones requirement.
A lot of the mystic forge uniques look better than the legendarys. Most of the Mists themed weapons (the ones that require 250 ecto) look pretty awesome. There’s quite a few focus skins that look good as well from the forge.

Totally agree. Only thing driving me in the direction of a legendary is that dang empty medal slot on the start screen……

Same. That, and progress towards the achievement. I’ll be f’ed if I’m going to make 5 legendarys or w/e the requirement for max rank of achievement is though.

Lol, yeah. However, at least that achievement isn’t staring you in the face every time you log in, saying, “You haven’t completed me yet, sucka”.

Might as well have a big trollface in middle of the World Competition medal until it’s achieved.

Working on it as we speak
One of the best ones out there!!!!!!!! (Already owns Sunrise and The Juggernaut, time for a change)
Also since pistols are small and hardly visible on any race regardless of size, it will be a perfect fit for my Asura thanks to the wicked effects of the gun.

I don’t think “proud” would be the reason for not facing the failure. Designer should learn to accept the truth that “most people don’t like it” is a failure and it should be corrected. No one would judge u if u correct a mistake.
Furthermore, I don’t think this design is long enough because the Minstrel looks like a semi-finished product and the Moot or the Quip which mentioned above is just with an inappropriate theme for a Legendary. Legendaries are meant to be something the owner be proud of, not a bad joke. If the dev thought it’s ok to apply joking attitude to the legendary and be proud of it, it would be a major problem for the team because such design already failed most people.
At last, I want to say, overall it’s a MMORPG, u need to watch players’ feedback, not being stubborn at some “Proud” art skin design which is true that van Gogh‘s arts hadn’t been accepted by people until years after his death but this is not what we need here in this game. End game design should attract most people at the first glance.
To tell you the truth I don’t think they were done designing all of them in the first place.
They underestimated the speed at which the player base could/would acquire.

Yeah, I agree here I have 2x gifts of mastery and 2x gifts of fortune was going to make frostfang and flameseeker, however every time I turn around another person has one of these.
I would be happy if I could just be unique for a day or two like I was with my T3 cultural.
Also for people who don’t know The Moot does light up the trumpets blare music and I believe it spins. To also note I most often see this wep in a warriors off-hand (some or most of you may too) which for some reason weapons that can be main handed and offhanded don’t present their full effects when in offhand, frostfang doesn’t either.

I know very well what The Moot does.
Makes me loathe it even more.
Do you even lift, bro?
the worst thing is that people who do want sunrise and twilight are punished because of the lack of other good looking legendarys which makes everyone else want them and thus pushes the price up, just look at the prices of lodestones.

It is true that the charged lodestone price is kind of side effect of imbalanced design of Legendary skins, due to charged lodestone mostly comes from COE exp dungeon chest, while the Onyx lodestone is relatively cheaper than Charged lodestone due to TA exp run is relatively easier than COE does.
However, therefore the charged lodestone quantity provided in TP is much smaller than the other kinds of lodestones, and this is the main reason for the difference of lodestone prices. The imbalanced design just contribute a partly and relatively small role to the current lodestone price.
Overall, mainly it’s COE is harder to do => Charged lodestone quantity provided is small => Charged lodestone is expensive
Onyx can also drop in AC, a far easier dungeon the either TA or CoE.
I personally want more legendaries to come out but I don’t want them spit at us like pretty much every caster weapon was.

I think I can partly agree with u, but I still got faith in their designing ability.
However, this is not the main purpose of this post.
I know that our devs r busy with their work at hand especially the precursor “scavenger hunt”, but I do hope some devs whether in charge or not of the legendary design can see this and understand this as a major problem for the end game.
The problem is nicely encapsulated by viewing the following weapons.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Other_Items
There are a lot of weapons craftable in the mystic forge which are fairly unique and uncommon. Most of the ones on that page require a substantial time and money investment (many of them have materials costs well into the low 100s gold) and look substantially different from your run of the mill exotics.
The problem is that some of the legendary weapons (focus, mace, scepter, and pistol come immediately to mind) aren’t significantly different from the weapons on that page.
In other words, looking goofy and/or unique is not something exclusive to legendary weapons. Skins like The Minstrel, Meteorologicus, Quip, and the Moot should have been here with the other exotic MF craftables. Legendary weapons should look and feel truly legendary.

U’ve got the point. Legendary weapons should look and feel truly legendary. Currently, some of them just fail to present the value and meaning of a Legendary Weapon.

Yup my thought as i was nearing map completion on my guardian and thought hmm better look at what else i need. It was OMG the only people that would use that are an Asura with an afro or Disco Stu.

Disco Stu approves and will happily dual-wield these Disco Balls because he’s Disco Stu!
I’m happy to see there are improvements.
