And it would make sense for one of those “evil” Rangers that see no problem with using their knowledge and skills to exploit the natural world for their own benefit. Or a Leatherworker that’s basically a taxidermist and has no affinity for the animals that die for his trade.

My problem is that, they could have picked a more neutral design than favoring one (“evil” Rangers) or the other.

If I will just transmog it, then there’s no point of creating it, then 400 leather crafting didn’t really get anything this patch.

Leather crafting is intrinsically cruel to animals. I do not support cruelty to animals and demand that ANet bring in vinyl crafting!

I feel there’s a huge difference between cruelty to animals and using every party of an animal you killed because you needed to. Like, if you came across a deer in the woods that died because it got it’s antlers caught in a tree, how is it cruel to eat it and use it’s skin to keep warm?

I know this thread has gone the route of insanity but I’ll give it a shot.

The bolded part is I believe what is bugging most people about your stance. You love animals IRL and don’t want to be reminded of their demise when it comes to making leather armor. You would rather have the ambiguity as to what leather is made of instead of it being in your face. Either way leather comes from killing animals and wearing their skin. That is the one thing about leather that is not ambiguous nor should it ever be.

Displaying a kill, whether on a backpack for crafting or as a helmet for armor, is in no way cruel to the animal in question. It just brings into stark reality exactly what leatherworking is and where the base materials come from. Plus it’s not like we’re having a discussion about huntsman or jeweler or something like that having a bear head.

If you’re not happy with having a bear watching your back, live or dead, humanely or cruelly killed, then just use a transmute charge. ;D
Simple fix, didn’t need a thread or a philisophical discussion.

Maybe Anet can make it so you can donate gold to the WWF? Start a campaign to save online animal avatars before they become extinct? Does that help?
