600 dragonite ingots (not ores, see screen).

Alright, so I have a little hoarding problem (meaning I hate to arbitrarily delete items that MAY be used).

But even though I am making ascended gear, I don’t see how I will ever use that many ingots seeing as I’m accumulating those doing world events faster than I could use.

I would really like to at least merchant off those pink ores/ingots or exchange for rng gear bags (like those blade shards).

What are peoples thoughts?

When the ascended mats got introduced, they were an ADDITION to loot tables, they didnt replace any other loot. They were intended to have players play different content in order to craft ascended gear, not as a monetary value. Giving them a vendor value would be an instant gold faucet of epic proportions due to the sheer amount of this stuff being hoarded by players. It would lead to a gold inflation spike which isnt good for the economy. The same goes for trading them for blue/green gear, which would result in a material faucet from salvaging.

Why in the world are you wasting all that karma to refine?

The most you should have really is a stack. I saved up only 50 and have started to throw out any excess materials I get.

Anet is very unlikely to design a system that would require so many materials.

Realistically 7000 dragonite ore is only about 2-3 months worth of daily temple runs if you do like 3 a day. I used to run much more/day than that before megaservers but it was all specific goal oriented, aimlessly saving/refining is just not smart. What if Anet adds a new recipe for the unrefined ore?

Well, the OP has over 60k ore refined into ingots, so i dont know where your 7000 figure comes from.

how do you refrain from refining the Lump of Mithrillium and others?

Don’t forget that you get a ton of Dragonite from the world boss train. One full train would net you 1-2 stacks of dragonite ore.

It’s good to refrain from refining the lump in case it is required in future items.

Precursor crafting is one such possiblity.

If Anet wanted to prevent or lessen the shock precursor crafting would result in, they would time gate it. Imagine if the recipe called for 15 lump of mithrillium? You would have to wait 15 days if you didn’t craft it, as opposed to this guy who could attempt it on the day of the patch.

Did you get the dragonite ore before or after megaservers? Since the temples are always open I’m finding it impossible to get any significant amount of Dragonite.

Farming geodes and opening sandstorm chests has actually put my Dragonite supply ahead of Empreal. They clearly weighted the chests heavier on the Dragonite, probably to make up for it’s difficulty to get elsewhere without requiring a group.

I am hoping they just convert it to some sort of currency in the future. And then you can buy ascended crafting items with some gold to offset the buyable crafting mat.

Sucks for people trying to save money on crafting 450 → 475 by compacting dusts/ores/fragments though.

The game really needs some consumables that need those as primary part, not like toxic oils whitch need 2 rare components and some bloodstone. It would make these mats important again. I just find silly we have “super rare” mats that dont have any value at all.

My hope is that 500 cooking is going to be a way of consuming these ascended materials.
