Why do Jewelers get hosed at 400?
Some people are just stupid responding on here. Sorry that’s rude, but seriously, read the guy’s post.
I think that JC gets shafted at the end because they have it easier in the beginning/middle. I’m a JC and leatherworker. I flew threw JC and had leatherworking trailing behind. As soon as I hit around 375 I stalled on JC and finished LW up.
So again, to directly answer your question, I believe this was implemented to make up for the fact that early/middle JC is easier compared to the others (excluding cooking).
What I meant Choam is that I cannot take my lvl 65 Embellished Brilliant Emerald Jewel that requires level 65 to equip to an item, but requires level 375 to craft, as well as requiring an exotic material and break down to at least have a chance for a return on the glob
This is NOT in line with every other profession and needs to be corrected.
I have not had to watch the market to get the best deals on any of the materials it takes to get to 400 on armorsmithing, artificing or tailoring, it was a matter of finding on my own regular 375 materials (which are easy enough to come by btw, nowhere near as rare as globs), not the ORANGE EXOTIC materials

Sell the jewel; or collect more jewels to make the rare and salvage the rare.
Jewels are ingredients to our end products which also happens to be upgrade components, but they are not themselves equipments. In my mind jewels are the closest thing JC has to the other craft’s inscriptions and emblems (difference being the T5 rare for JC requiring the ectoplasm instead of more fine mats). It makes sense to me that they cannot be salvaged.
And globs really are not hard to come by; 3 failed attempts at Temple of Balthazaar DE dropped enough rares for me to salvage 5 ectos.
Also, JC doesn’t need to be in line with other professions, it never was from 0-375, but is still more or less “fair”.
Right, fine. It is perfectly acceptable for lvl 65 rares to require the same materials as level 80 exotic, excuse me for wanting some uniformity between the professions here. If you ask me it is a bit too extreme. There is no reason, ever, that a rare should require the same exotic material that makes an exotic an exotic. …shouldn’t the recipe then be exotic instead of a rare?
I don’t know if you realise this, but the level 65 requirement is a good thing. Restricting to level 80 would actually limit the use of the jewel as an upgrade item. Currently, you can actually just make jewels to partially upgrade accessories by replacing the upgrade item in lower level accessories.
They could have made the upgrade item level 80 instead of 65, it still would not salvage.
We’ll have to agree to disagree on the “exotic in, exotic out” concept of yours. I still think it’s fine.
My point was that it requires an exotic material without having any way of a return on that cost, have you listed one of these items? it doesn’t sell for anything worthwhile. How would it be any more of a restriction than the items needed to upgrade in armorsmithing or tailoring? Some potions in artificing require gems, so it’s not like gems are unique to jewelcrafting only, your argument there only begs for someone to ask why potions are not more needed, or at least as needed as upgrade itmes that require exotic materials to craft.
The entire thing feels as though they ran out of ideas and just said, "well hell, just make it require max level and max tier materials. They need to fix it.

Looks like the completed accessories are selling at between 75 to 96 silvers for instant buy. 3 ectos at current price would only account for 2/3rds to 1/2th the cost of that. Cost recovery is viable.
I do not understand what you are saying about potions; they use 2/7 types of raw gems, in one recipe per tier. It’s no where close to being similar to the inscription/emblem/jewel “system”.
The end product is a level 80 rare, you can salvage ectoplasm from rares below 80, so I am also not seeing this “max level and max tier” idea of yours.
I don’t know if it was intentional, but it has made rare 80 jewels pretty much worthless (while rare weapons and armor are high demand). The ectos make rare jewelry too expensive for too little benefit next to just using the green stuff until you can afford exotics.
You use them to push from 380 to 400 and for nothing more.
Honestly, whats the point of complaining about this?
JC is way, way, WAY cheaper to level to 375 compared to armor smithing. Its not even close. JC is probably the 2nd cheapest craft to level after artificing.
You realize on the climb up to 400. armor smithing used ore AND cloth, instead of just ore. It also uses alot of thread, which is a strait npc gold dump.
