Hey the Karka and Torment traps are fine, however when it comes to things that has this much power (instagib) fair warning has to be made. For karka for instance maybe a ground shake to alert of its coming, that way even a karka+trap could be survivable (a good player would assume a trap as well and try to avoid)

….it already makes the ground shake before hand!!!!

The mechanics are PERFECT. Absolutely nothing needs to be changed.

So if you kill a lot of people, you wish to be somehow – rewarded? By getting special protection? But.. you killed a lot of people – that IS your reward, you got a load of points.

That is part of the fun and excitement, you killed someone and you know he is around, vengeful and trying to kill you. It’s creepy, spooky, even scary, since you can’t see them.

What about the player who died? Would you lock him in a cage on the other side of the island? Is he not frustrated? Shouldn’t he get a chance to get revenge?

If the dead players didn’t spawn on top of their killers, I bet you that all the people agreeing with OP in this topic, would create a topic asking for the mistforms to be spawned on top of their killers

COMPLETELY agree with you. I think the mechanics makes perfect sense because:

1. If you want to kill people for lots of points, you have to deal with the ramifications of vengeful spirits following you. But there are strategies to survive: kill away from supply camps where people scavenged and left motes enough for spawn karka, kill a bunch at the same spot so they fight for motes, learning to effectively dodge spawned karka, or learning to AVOID tight spots that are impossible to dodge where karkas are spawned on top of you.
2. If you want to kill people to get points, but you are not good at surviving all the mists that hate you, then you get killed and fade into the mist, now use your killer instinct to haunt more survivors and get more points. The same mist powers you complain about can be used against survivors, and give you more points!
3. If you enjoy killing and hate the people who hide (for no other reason than they’re just minding their business and you can’t?) use your skills and hide, trap, hunt them, while keeping in mind that you need to get more rations to outlast them. Finding them and killing them in a remote location means that they will have NO motes to get revenge on you before the game ends. There IS something you can do about this.
4. Lastly, if you do the standard scavenge, don’t kitten people off, and hide scenario, then you trade the potential of massive kill points for guaranteed 50 points as the last person standing, and a better chest.

I personally think this is very evenly balanced. Think about what you want out of this game (be it loot, achievement points, or simply just want your name at the top), think about it (or there’s lots of tips online!) and play accordingly. And of course there are always people who are better than you, or people who just kill for no reason, or bad players somehow getting lucky.

Just a last bit of anecdote: I was so confused by this game at the beginning. Watched a video some friendly player posted for tips on surviving, and now I aim to outlast players somewhere far off. But if I get killed early, I don’t mind. I trade headshots with people to get achievement or hang out with other mists to haunt down a jerk player

Bottom line is, and this applies to SO MANY things in this game: play how you want and enjoy it. If you don’t enjoy it, leave. If you feel like you’re forced to play this game for achievements, you are wrong; learn to enjoy playing for achievements, or leave and learn not to care about achievements. There’s really no point in getting yourself all worked up playing a game

i aggree with most of what you say except your #4 its not viable to do the standard scavenge and win because that one person hiding somewhere in a remote coner of the map cannot be countered, ghosts cant get him, you cant find him to kill him (you will die looking) and most of the ghsots will be on you because your in a common area looking for supplies,

there is too much support for that startegy its not fair

It also prevents needless whining from them because even when they’re dead, they’re not out of the game. You may need to be one of the first ones to lose more often so you’ll stop with this whining.

An option to enter a new game, or stay in the current one would probably work instead of this to keep them entertained during death.

I do not have fun getting revenge against people who can’t fight back.
I do not have fun getting chased by an invincible, invisible, instant trap laying, super bug summoning, dead player.

There is no counterplay in this. With no counterplay, it will be obvious that only one person of two will have fun.

I love having a duel. Whether i win or lose, it is exhilarating regardless. It is a display of who can control the situation, and who can be the trickiest, and who can take advantage of a mistake. Both players usually have fun in such battles.
Take away the ability to counter a tactic, or in this case a dead player, and you utterly destroy half the fun. If the other player doesn’t like an unfair kill by dropping karkas on people, you destroy both sides of the fun instead of just half.

If nobody can modify the outcome, anybody who values sportsmanship, and enjoyability for both players, will be turned off.
It doesn’t matter that the other player has already lost. Thinking that you technically won won’t make things fun. You are still battling another player who cannot be harmed. Whether you win or not doesn’t change the battle itself.

If you have a reason as to why ghosts are a great fun aspect for all players rather than just the one player who can’t do without revenge, do tell. I’d like to know.

There IS a counterplay to them. Don’t go killing people. You don’t go killing them, they won’t be right next to you ready for revenge. You’d be surprised how many people waste their nodes on getting immediate revenge on the person who killed them, leaving them without them at the end of the match.

ur not supposed to win if you killed 3 people, this is survival not deathmatch, change your thinking.

that being said the ghosts are way too powerful, its not the karka its the call from beyond trap its damage is way too high its too cheap and too easy to hit people

as for the akitteng ration users….it should be possible to trap someone who is standing still,

that should take care of all your complaints….if only anet would hurry up and get on it

Nop that wouldn’t solve anything. When I want to win instead of getting a lot of points, I use the standard technic you described : I hoard rations then camp in a remote section of the island waiting for people to starve.
Allowing ghost to trap me while I stand still won’t help stopping this kind of behavior because :

1) They still need to find me, which is pretty hard given the size of the map and all the possible hiding places.
2) Because you don’t scavenge anything and you’re far from any source of revenge mote, the ghost (if they are ever able to find you) won’t do you any harm without
motes.
3) People could hide in water where ghost can’t use their traps because they are ground targeted. Only ever setting foot on land to use a ration.

sounds to me like you dont want this change because you dont want them to counter you

1- they can easily find you it even starts telling people where you are on the minmap after a while and many people will follow you in ghost form before you get all of your rations

2- they should have motes before that, and if your standing still the ghosts should be able to hit you even if your standing still (another major change that is needed)

3- sitting in water means you have to come up sometimes for a ration and the ghosts can trap the shore in anticipation of this, very easy

1) it’s not that easy to find people hoarding rations because they tend to hide in very remote and/or hard to reach (recquiring jumps) places in the west of the map (the caves, on top of the rocks towering the canal, the clay huts, the western island, the skipping tone jumping puzzle etc…).
It will often recquire great dedication from the ghost to reach such remote places then find the camper before it’s too late.
People doing this kind of strategy will rush rations as soon as possible and will be out of the eastern area shortly before the 12 minutes mark meaning there won’t be any ghost following them because of the grace period. After the grace periode is over, well they will be hiding so they won’t kill anyone = no ghost.

2) The only way it is possible is a ghost rush as soon as he’s dead to a camp loaded with revenge motes, hoard at least 14 of them so he can secure his kill (implying there isn’t any other ghost in the area so he won’t fight for the motes) then IGNORE all the other survivors he’ll necessarily cross way with to head west where he’ll spend half the game looking for the camper. He might find him but you have to agree this whole scenario is highly unlikely. The standard ghost will simply haunt the one who killed him then all survivors who are nearby.

3) Agreed, water won’t do any goods to campers.

This actually works. I didn’t go provoking anybody one game, and actually managed to be the last one standing because the ghosts always spawned away from me and couldn’t find out where I was at. However, this is also dependent on the other players not killing you at the beginning. If they do and you go ghost, well…teach them why they don’t go killing you~

Definitely agree with this.
If you get an early kill, even without meaning too (oh, that guy picked up your obvious ration trap right after you placed it?), you are 95% sure to lose if you run into anyone else. All they have to do is use the item drop trap and you either have to try and pick up items and fight the guy, or run away and leave most of your stuff behind.

Then even if you survive, you will probably attract the ghostie zerg and get karked.

I’d suggest ghosts use the Kark and “inactive” locations and buff #5 to give them faster movement.

Kinda hard to tell you’re being analytical when you’re typing like somebody who likes to say they’re “l33t” or other such rubbish like that. Good grammar makes people take you seriously on the internet, surprisingly.

How is it fun for both players to have the ghost mechanic rather than just the ghost who cannot be countered against?

How is gathering 10 rations and sitting in a cave because of ghosts fun?

You need to redo that first question, it’s confusing as to whether or not you’re asking for both ghosts to have the mechanic, whether everybody has the mechanic rather than just one person, etc.

The second one isn’t fun. Which is why there needs to either be a lower cap on rations a person can hold (5 would be perfect), or there needs to be a move for ghosts to use that can hit somebody sitting still, OTHER than the karka…like something that as an earlier poster suggested, rots the rations if they stay in that spot.

Ghosts hitting campers would not work because they wouldn’t seek out the campers in the first place. They will go for the nearest player for score to get the achievement, or to avoid traveling across the map to find a camper because it takes too long.

I would somewhat agree on a lower cap on rations, however that would reduce the effectiveness of killing other players for thier food.

Hmm, good question, but the answer I’m afraid is subjective. Some may find it fun regardless, like me, while others may not.

A possible fix for that could be for karka to be ‘attracted’ to the rations. So staying too long in one spot could call them to the player. Fixes the camping because it’d be too dangerous to do it.

The last one, I agree. Hmm, maybe 6-7 be made the cap so killing other players for food still effective, but not THAT effective?

Games themselves are subjective. one culture might find one game fun, but another would find it revolting or boring.
Considering the number of people complaining about it though, an answer may be in that.

The attracted karka idea is ok.
Something less forceful and more subtle to remove people from hiding would feel much more natural. A sudden karka to make you move out would really feel out of place, and annoying. Especially if you were at the end of a jumping puzzle way up high for example. How does a karka get there? I don’t really have any ideas to throw around that are any better.

Some of you simply don’t understand the nature of this mini-game, nor good strategy for that matter. How do you think someone manages to get a stockpile of rations and hide? It’s because those players are out harvesting the many passiflora on the map. It’s your fault as a player for letting them obtain so many rations.

The right strategy would’ve been to cut these players off before they got a chance to fatten themselves up. This is actually telegraphed within the first 30 seconds of the mini-game. Figure out which players are going after rations, then stalk them from a distance. This way you’ll at least have the opportunity to land a well placed tactical strike before they can run away to camp in an obscure location.

Clearly, it takes time to gather 6-10 rations. It also places the player at risk of attack since they’ll need to forgo effective fighting weapons for a larger supply of passiflora. Within that time frame they are extremely vulnerable, and so it’s up to you as a player to become aware of their intentions and actively interfere with them. Of course, some other third party could then do the same to you. And the cycle continues until one of you is left standing.

Meanwhile, you need to avoid mist walkers looking for revenge. If you’ve been turned into one then you should realize that you have many tools at your disposal to take down camping players. Obviously, call target on them if you catch site of them. This will alert all other downed players to their location. You can also use alarm traps for this purpose. Even the person hiding at the top of the jumping puzzle can be taken down with the right planning and just a little cooperation from other players. . .

All of this adds up to a highly complex, unpredictable, and thrilling little mini-game where there is no guaranteed winner. It’s a stunning success by any reasonable person’s standards. A 10/10. So, please, stop trying to improve it with your terrible suggestions.

Truth is, some of you just haven’t had the adrenaline rush that comes from a good win. You haven’t played against all the odds and come out on top. You’re bitter and you came to these forums to vent; where, unsurprisingly, you come to find other sore losers still raging from their last defeat and ready to sympathize with you. “No, it wasn’t us!” “It was that evil game!” “kitten you Anet!” Seriously, just get over it. The game is meant to be hard. But it’s also incredibly rewarding if you stick with it… Play some more… learn why some of us are having the time of our GW2 lives playing this and stop WHINING!

hiding is one thing, hiding and not being able to be attacked and the near invincibility that comes with hiding in this game is far different. hiding = immortality in this game and that is not survival.

You can get killed by other players but not by overpowered mists.

oh how ridiculous like other players are going to be able to move around with the same overpowered ghosts after them also? use ur head b4 u post

Even the person hiding at the top of the jumping puzzle can be taken down with the right planning and just a little cooperation from other players. . .

what you say is true (except for the troll nonsense about whining and the high horsed stuff about every1 on here being wrong)

but your fatal flaw that invalidates your entire post is this, a good game has not just one strategy to win i shoudlnt HAVE to go after those ration gatherers (although as iv said many times over i am the one gathering them , i have over 80 splendid chests im no noob at this game). i should have many ways and options to win, and you only want your way in the game
