I’m not going to lie. Evon has some pretty attractive offers: I would like to buy more BL keys to open my 50+ chests. Also, and knowing the lore of GW1, the Abaddon fractal does sound interesting. However, and after much though, I realize the Thaumanova fractal is more promising. And by promising, I mean it could be a homage, the way Super Adventure Box was a homage to the games of yesteryear.

To begin with, lets begin with the first game thats been cited as the inspiration for Thaumanova: Half-Life. Th GW2 wiki itself states it, with the continuous appearing portals and randoms creatures that teleport in and out of the reactor, much like how the aliens from Xen appeared randomly in the Black mesa facilit of Half-Life 1. Plus, Half-Life was considered one of the best games of all time, and for good reason: it produced Counterstrike and Team Fortress Classic, the latter which was the predecessor for Team Fortress 2, which, I might add, was an inspiration for some of the classes in GW 2 (notably the engineer).

Plus, with the Thaumanova reactor as a Half-Life/Valve tribute, all sorts of possibilities could happen. The end boss, for all you know, could be a giant tentacle creature that can only be defeated by a blast reactor. Noting the random nature of the portals in the game, we could have certain human units, from some distant land, teleporting into facility and attacking asura scientists. Heck, just noting how dangerous one typical unit is, it could serve as another possible end boss. And, with another valve game in mind, players could be given a chance to temporarily use a gun that makes portals. hint hint

But thats only one possible home, and I said there was two. See, when I first came across the thaumanova reactor fallout, with its injured asuran scientists, and the claims of radiation, I wasn’t thinking about Half-Life. I was thinking about a serious real life incident that had severe effects on its surroundings and, as some claimed, the world. Thats right, I was thinking about Chernobyl And with that, I was thinking about another great game series: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

And that itself opens to a whole load of possible references. We could have a lone asura scientist who keeps saying “get out of here” everytime you approach him In a reference to the challenging nature of said game, players would have to not only collect medkits, but routinely use medkits as a means of healing, as opposed to relying on their classes respective healing skills. And I could go on.

Yes, a vote for Evon means a vote for something in the far distant lore of GW, predating GW 1. But I didn’t play GW1. And I did play Half-Life and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. So, I know where my vote goes, and I would definitely would like to see something that could, potentially, reference two of my favourite games of all time

tl;dr short version: Vote for Kiel = Thaumanova = Half Life + S.T.A.L.K.E.R. reference = WIN

So vote for Kiel and pray the devs throw in a bunch of references?
