Obtaining weapon skins: out of all the methods that anet has done, now they’re resorting to boxes where you could potentially buy thousands and not even get a ticket?
Sure, you have a month to get it, but really, why change to a method that involves a ton of RNG compared to what they did before involving bauble baubles or sweaters/socks/whatever? At least some progression is made when they work towards getting the skin.

Dragon ball: Compared to the Wintersday pvp minigame, this is kind of lackluster. There’s not that much about it to be said.

Moa racing: Pay 50s to watch a bunch of moas run, if you win, great. nothing special

There’s also no jumping puzzle, but that’s not such a big deal. My major gripe is with RNG boxes for skins though. Not everyone gets lucky and that can be pretty upsetting when they have to go through thousands of boxes, and potentially not even get a single ticket.

tl;dr – event seems pretty kitten/poorly done after looking at the minigames and not much thought process went into the method of obtaining skins. (progression-based to RNG-based)

I kind of feel that way at the moment as well. But then again, the rest of the event hasn’t even started yet. This is just the intro.

But for me, it has to be the skins. They just feel poorly made. In the preview, they look nice and neat. But when you equip them, they are pixelated and jagged. Same with the helmet skin from the fireworks. It is so blocky and pixelated. They all just look poorly made and rushed.

Then we have the grindy achievements. 250 for that, 300 for this, 150 for that, 100 for this, etc. And everything only gives you one taffy, and not to mention the 100k taffy for wings. I mean no real story to any of it (so far), just grind, grind, and grind again. I’m not even going to get started on these RNG chests…..

Don’t forget the bugs that got by “testing” (if there was any testing). They never test a patch. They just release it, and hope for the best. Then we get patch after patch to fix the previous patch. It’s always like this every patch.

All in all, everything feels rushed and poorly done. The quality of the items, the RNG, the grind, the bugs, etc. Hopefully this story is decent enough to save this event.

Lol some people will always complain.

give everyone all the skins – " i want a rare skin hard to get so that i can look unquie"

read this and get 20 different achievements – " make events harder"

bet 1 copper and win 100 gold – " too much gold income"

1 taffy for wings – " everyone has bp"

higher the requirement number for an achivement because your giving the players a month long event – " im kitten ed off becuase i didnt 100% everything within the 1st hour"

They take their time to perfect a single month event, make sure flawless code interaction, graphics -" we want MOAR stuff NOW !!!!! "

Programmers will tell you that code can sometimes interact very differently between test servers and live servers.

code bugs and before anet can get a patch out – " im rioting cuz of bug anet fix your shiz!!!!!!!"

Code bugs, anet creates a patch to fix as soon as they can – " im unhappy cuz of bugs and patching the patches"

This exactly. I don’t understand why people farm holograms for hours when they can just play the game and the achievement will be finished after a few days and they won’t even notice.

Mmm, no, they won’t, because it doesn’t. What players do “with” that code is how you get bugs and unforeseen occurrences. That’s why you test things, what server it’s on has nothing to do with that.

More so, code has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that this event seems pretty badly planned. Activities are lackluster and not really enjoyable, the 100k candy required for wings is just completely illogical, only thing I don’t really have any complaints about are the rewards, those are what they are. The events in GW1 were enjoyable for seven years, and those never changed besides a few tiny tweaks. Dragon Arena was fun and required more than just ganking and luck. Rollerbeetle races were enjoyable because you actually got to participate in the race, not just click one button and watch AI do the rest. It’s not “unfounded complaining” as you would call it, it’s disappointment that events have turned into lackluster releases such as this.

Oh and about the programming thing, when you don’t know what you’re talking about, don’t try to act like you do. Just some friendly advice.

I think the holo wings should be difficult to get, but 100k candies is ridiculous. I can see some sense in 50k but good luck on grinding (for several several several days) for that at the moment.

it’s not impossible to get 100k candy, it can be done. that’s why they put in words as this

- “Ambitious adventurers who collect a large amount of Dragon Bash candy can obtain these exclusive holographic festival wings.”

if you don’t like it then go out and kill mobs in order to get them or buy the from the trading post. this wasn’t done bad at all. there were just a lot of people complaining. i understand trying to get a ticket but since you can get them from normal coffers then no one should be complaining even if the chance is low. everything else in this event was done pretty good for everyone. be grateful for free updates ~ you aren’t required to buy anything.

Whether Dragon Ball is any good is a matter of opinion. There are people in my guild who have done almost nothing else since the event started because they’re enjoying it so much.

And the fact that it’s impossible to get 100k taffys is irrelevant in my opinion because what you can do is collect and sell the dragon coffers (they drop from all enemies, but slightly faster from the holograms if you want to speed it up) to raise the 18g (approximately) they cost on the Trading Post. Considering the price has been dropping steadily they will probably be even cheaper than that by the end of the event.

As for the overall lack of content remember that this is only part 1 of the event. Flame & Frost part one was very boring for most people but by the end it was being held up as one of their best updates and content that should have stayed in-game forever. The locked achievements very strongly suggest future updates will have more of a storyline and more combat/action focused content, and to me that mysterious rock formation looks very much like it could be a jump puzzle. Or some type of puzzle anyway.

Personally I think it’s a lot better than the Dragon Festival in GW1, which for me always consisted of doing the quests in about 20 minutes, any missions I happened to be online for and then either going back to what I’d do normally or akitten the boardwalk for extremely grindy titles and the finale hat.

And on that note if you think GW2 achievements are grindy have a look at these:
The three primarily special event titles:
Gamer 135,000 points in festival games. The most you can get at once is 40 points for winning a match, and that’s only open for 1 month a year.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Gamer
Lucky & Unlucky Win 2,500,000 games of chance and lose 500,000. The cheapest and quickest way to get these is from festival games – it will take you 723.7 hours and 2,205,882 gold (approx. 2,205g 90s in GW2 money). playing games that are only available 360 hours a year and which consist entirely of paying, waiting for a result and starting over.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Lucky_and_Unlucky

You also get consumables to put towards the 3 consumable titles:
Drunkard 10,000 points from drinks: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Drunkard
Party Animal 10,000 points from party items: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Party_Animal
Sweet Tooth 10,000 points from sweets: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Sweet_Tooth

Again you get these items mainly from festival events, and could not expect to max the title without spending years working towards it or a large pile of gold buying consumables from other players.

By comparison GW2 “grindy” achievements look laughable. You can get most of them in less than a day, or spread it over a few days with no real effort. I got most of the piñata one in the time I spent waiting for the fireworks to start.

I do agree that the RNG boxes for skins is a terrible idea. But that’s beating a dead horse at this point, as long as people keep shelling out hundreds of dollars of real money for a chance at a “special” skin Anet will keep selling them.

Actually we would, since it does.
The test-server is never identical to the actual live servers, so issues can pass through thousands of tests and still screw something up when it comes to the live server.

Although players are a factor too. They can’t possibly test every possible interaction between a new event or object, all the existing stuff and thousands of real people who will do all kinds of odd things. Especially when you get some people who will go out of their way to “break” things.

Look at the mysterious rock formation. I’m sure they checked it wasn’t accessible before they launched it, but in a matter of hours some people had found a way they’d missed.

Mmm, no, they won’t, because it doesn’t. What players do “with” that code is how you get bugs and unforeseen occurrences. That’s why you test things, what server it’s on has nothing to do with that.

facepalm awesome so your saying that players act in a random fashion that the developers should have tested for. You clearly do not comprehend how extremely complex that is, lets take another game, for example a game called socom. One bug was that you could prone slide aginst certain walls to clip through them. Sure they could of spammed every action against every ingame square inch of every wall but could it be done while dealing with a release date deadline, no and so somethings accidently get through the cracks. Another problem is how well do you think testing on a server deals withoutside user interference such as cutting ones ethernet cord to attach a lightswitch to cause controllable brief moments of lag or removing the cover of a console to switch discs inbetween loading screens ( yes these are real example).

The unpredictable actions of the player IS the differnce between a test server and a live server, and when I say server difference I do not mean jq versus sor.

Since this game is ooo buggy and horriable in your eyes, lets have a fun game challange. You name a game which you know to be 100% flawless with no bugs, exploits or ways for a user to get ahead of the game and/or other players. My incredable tedious task is to find one of them.

I could stop here but I rather enjoy my breakfest bread crisper.

the 100k candy required for wings is just completely illogical

RAWR!!!! how dare they require so much, giving us a few weeks to gain that amount and its only 6 days into the event.
Dont even tell me that you can buy the candy off the trading post currently at 10 copper a piece
8 copper x 250 = 20 silver
20 silver x 4 = 80 silver = 1 jorbreaker now do 99 more time pftt geezz anet its cheaper making an legendary then to get these wings

also nevermind the rate at which the wings random drop, i have higher chances of finding a precursor * sit in corner arms crossed with pouty face*

The events in GW1 were enjoyable for seven years, and those never changed besides a few tiny tweaks.

yeah gw1 events were quite enjoyable, its saddening to see gw2 a game of 18 years of age and this being the 29th annual dragon bash with a few more additions in a couple of days……yeah anet you have 0% room for improvement.

Dragon Arena was fun and required more than just ganking and luck

LOL just what. dragonball/ dragon arena has always been a pvp arena and as such is about ganking and counteracting the opposing team.
The only differences between gw1 dragon arena and gw2 dragon ball is that in gw2 there are new skills that arent automatically unlocked and the abilty to…..OMG !!!! fellow players please give this player a round of applause for he has come out of CoF.
I feel obliged to tell you about the dodge mechanic that you may consider OP. Now the key is not freak out spam the dodge key as the slow moving projectile moves towards you ( youll end up just wasting all your dodges on one incoming attack). takes some time getting use too though

AS for the luck part lol what you cant predict what the other player is going to do? Isnt that what testing is based on?

It’s not “unfounded complaining” as you would call it

I agree with this, how i dare i not call it that and provide such silly examples. 5 people complaining about how hard some things are in comparison to hundreds of others enjoying this event…… its clearly obvious that this event blows .

Oh and about the programming thing, when you don’t know what you’re talking about, don’t try to act like you do. Just some friendly advice.

Your actually right on this one, im really am not/ nor plan to be a game developer/programmer. May Odin have mercy on my sould had I claimed that knowledge, but you my dearest friend that gives friendly advice, you should quickly apply to anet. With all your extensive testing knowledge and plans for future events……why we would never have another buggy mundane unenjoyable event ever again!!!!!

only gripes i have(only 2) is the ceremony with the fireworks and how it was set up thought that was poorly thought out and the 100k zaitaffy thought it was tad high(25k would have been sufficent in my book). of the events and i know there are more to come. i liked the moa racing although there was a glitch that happens. dragonball was fun although i sucked at it im going to finish my schievement on it and enjoy it next year im sure. i loved how you pick up orbs for more powers and health. the halograms not anets fault. they didnt understamd how people were going to camp these things and ruin it for others. numbers on fireworks and pinatas may have been low in my book but hey some people are real casual and yes we must give them time to do that stuff so i see no problem there. i loved the decorations and art which were superb.

what server the code is ran on does not influence it at all. I should also reiterate that when you don’t know what you’re talking about, don’t try to act like you do. Clearly didn’t make it through that thick skull of yours the first time.

Oh but it does. A live server and a test server is never identical and there can always be issues when adding something from one to the other. This is something everyone with any kind of programming knowledge is fully aware of.
Why else do you think that there are massive issues that suddenly turn up, even in software that have week-long tests and testing servers.

You can never fully emulate an actual live server, no matter how much time you spend.

I agree the RNG thing is kind of an issue, and I say “kind of” because I personally never spend any money on it, but I know people who do and it is disheartening to see them open a ton of chests and get nothing for it after spending real life money on them.

Overall, though, I’d say I’m enjoying Dragon Bash quite a bit, especially after Southsun ended up being such a bust. I only did the required amount of achievements for the back pieces and that was it, didn’t even bother with the “dungeon” instances or the Karka Queen.

Day 1 of Super Adventure Box players “OMG need so many baubles to get skins why you hate us anet”

Day 2 Players realise you can get Bauble Bubbles from doing the instance “Skins are too easy to get! stop players farming them!”

My point is the event has just started and they are likeley to introduce other ways of getting the Jorbreakers, if they dont the wings arent worth it.

Overall the event hasnt been badly implemented fixes as usual were implemented quickly, although I do strongly beleive they need a couple of public test servers I know players would love to be the 1st to say I done this content already even if they dont actually gain from it.

I don’t know that they’ll add other ways of getting Jorbreakers but they’ve added other ways of getting the wings – they can drop from any enemy in any area of the game and do so frequently enough that they’re down to about 14g on the TP and likely to drop even more than that.
