i’ve been able to average 200 zhaitaffy an hour. at this rate it would take 100,000/200 = 500 hrs of farming to get the 100k taffy for the wings. this is 500/24 = 20 days worth of farming, thus making it all but impossible to farm the wings.

has anyone managed to get a better farm rate and can explain how/where?

So sell everything you are looting from farming and buy the backpiece off the TP. It’s now 23g.

If you must get it through the taffies, then who said you have to farm it all by yourself. The TP is there and if you look at zhaitaffy prices are dropping fast as and it’s only been 3 days. By next week or so it will probably be 1 or 2 copper and you can buy 100,000 taffies for 10-20 gold.

I don’t think the purpose is to farm them all yourself as it would require a stupid amount of hours.

You’re better off just buying the wings straight up on the TP for 20g or whatever they’re down to now.

ANet has provided alternatives to everyone. You can farm the 100k taffies, loot the wings from coffers, buy the wings off TP, or a mix of farming and buying taffies from TP.

Or just eat the taffies and buy the wings if you have 20g or whatever is it now (it was 22 last night)..

I think it is because of the candy corn.. look at how much is still left. So this will give people to buy it up and clear it out in mass quantities. The candy will probably hit 1 c and that will make the wings like 10g.

Or just wait until more parts of the festival is released and there might be stuff that awards high amount of candies?

Honestly even when that does happen, it still won’t be worth getting the wings with candy. Can you imagine trying to buy 400 stacks from the TP? You’ll be getting hit with error messages before you’re 2% of the way there…

How much magic find do you have ? i have 147% on my character and yesterday i found 2 wings from mobs and about 12 of those minis all together including my farming today and i found 2 weapon tickets . Idk where you are farming but the spot i have is pretty epic .

got one randomly from trash mobs in Orr without even wanting it. doesn’t look great, match with my toon or make me feel like a pretty cool guy.

don’t suppose you would share that spot with the less fortunate trying their hardest to just get 1 set of wings to no avail? call it what you will, low random chance modifier on loot, bad luck, bad drop rate; whatever you want to call it, its not for a lack of effort.

Well it is your choice but I would if I didn’t want them but I don’t know for sure :P

i see this month as a great opportunity to farm dragon coffers, sell them while they still got some value!

price dropped to 4s per coffer now!

Curious, is it confirmed that the wings can come from coffers? I heard they were just random drops by themselves?

1st mention of coffers doesn’t mention the wings.

“Not only will you work towards the So Lifelike achievement, the Coffer itself has a chance for Zhaitaffy and fireworks, with a very rare chance for a Holographic Risen Knight mini or a ticket for Dragon’s Jade weapon skins. ”

But, farther down the list you see:

“Dragon Coffers have a chance to drop in all world loot. These festive boxes can contain Zhaitaffy, fireworks, and a very rare chance for a Holographic Risen Knight mini, a ticket for Dragon’s Jade weapon skins, or the Holographic Dragon Wings back item skin.”

I just want to know if I’m wasting my time with these coffers if I open them?

Go for the drop or buy it. Use the taffies for the food buffs and chests for weapon tickets.

I think it’s great that anet has provided us a way to get the wings in other than just as RNG drop (I really do), but just think about this for a moment:

You need 100 000 taffies for the wings.

You get 1 taffy + some chests from monsters. Let’s assume you get 2 taffies per monster that you kill. This means you need to kill 50 000 monsters. Let’s say the wings have 0.05% chance of dropping (which is also my guess for the rate). I would say it’ll take around 2000-5000 monsters to kill to get them. If it was 0.01% chance, it’s still likely you’d get it with 2000-20000 monsters. If it was 0.1%, it’s likely you’ll get one with 500-2000 monsters.

5000 monsters might seem like a lot, but it’s really not That much. Just run around in events like Modniir and Orr, you’ll likely get like 500 kills in a day with not much work. I run around doing those + dragon events to get rares and a better chance at precursor.

… yes. I played 10 years a game that had drop items with 0.01% chance to drop. Generally speaking if you played 3 hours a day at the same spot and you killed a good amount of monsters (which you needed for the exp/hr rate), it was likely you’d get one of those items in a week or two.

In the end however I learnt that rather than consume yourself with exp/hr and items and money, it’s more important to focus on having fun. The more fun you are having and the less you are focused on having a need to get any new thing that your game company throws at you, the more it feels like the items and stuff will come to you without you even realizing it. Nothing kills exp/hr ratio worse then throwing your monitor out of the window.
