Really? Check out what those F1-4 keys do.

Yes, the F1-4 jay makes you clones explode, making AOE damage, which means they can hit an enemy with the wrong attunement. Doesn’t seem to solve anything.

My point was that a mesmer can remove their clones/phantasms before their attunement expires. I don’t see why you would even need to worry about hitting another enemy with the wrong attunement as most servers and Overflows have figured out that you avoid them splitting further up into six holograms if you kill the original three within 30 seconds of each other. In any case, there’s distortion which does no damage unless traited, like mentioned already, and the cooldown is shorter than the duration of the attunement.

That said, I am truly of a mind that the smart thing is to just forget about those achievements and this event. The level of frustration from these and the non existent drops from knights add up to just not worth the effort right now in my humble opinion.

I logged into my laptop from reading this on my Nook HD (logging in from that gets buggy), just to to tell you I thought this whole post was perfectly stated. Well said, Vespertilionidae.

There’s a guild challenge in which you have to kill 3 bosses within the same time window that works perfectly to split up the ‘zerg from one to the other’ tactic. It makes coordination very important and creates a much more interesting fight.

I was really hoping that was the case with the knights but it’s not. I’ve tried suggesting in map chat that we split up and take them all down at once but unfortunately mine is a tiny voice in a storm of “BLUE>GREEN>RED!!!”.

See An overflow actually tried this. I swear the overflow was full and everyone came to participate and the groups were split evenly but there was just not enough damage going on per Knight.

The scaling on the knights is horrible. The only time I’ve come close to 6 minutes was the blue green red zerg and we were off by 1 minute.

I was in on some of the first attempts to complete this event. Players actually tried the tactic of simultaneous kills first; this proved difficult, and naturally, players wondered if it would work better if they all zerged one at a time. It did. Combined with the additional rewards of TRIPLE LOOT, the choice became obvious. I cannot believe the designers didn’t see this coming.

I remember when Triple Trouble first came out, players tried the opposite first: zerging one at a time. It didn’t work, and the prevailing tactic now is to split up. It requires a huge amount of coordination, but it’s been consistently successful.

I’m beginning to wonder if Knight loot wasn’t broken intentionally until someone can figure out how to prevent players from “doing it in a way we hadn’t intended”. Having done the event several times with zero Knight loot, I feel cheated.

I was really getting into the LS, but the amount of issues with this release is truly disappointing.

If it’s possible, I prefer suggest to remove 6 mins achievement…
It’s too depend on hole map’s player and server.
Maybe it’s mean most of us have to join TTS or guest other T1 server to get this achievement?
I hate that I can’t done all the achievement about living world.

There is a difference between making servers work together vs making everyone join the best servers and forcefully zerg down a mob that requires gear check and consumable check. When did living world require highest lvl of gear?

Thank you Autumn for the post. I would like to add my support to the idea of giving us cores (10 of each kind would be nice – especially seeing many of us have fought the knights over and over without loot, and then being sent to the holo event with a small group – to fail, and fail, and fail. This is not a complaint). I really like the event, and think you put together a great finale for Scarlet. I could also see extending the play period with core drops for everyone who fights the knights (the tp sellers have had their chance to make money). However, this could be counter productive as the event would drag on.

Again, thank you for all you have done to help us, and keep up the good work – looking forward to fighting that dragon in the future!

Bug Fixes:

Fixed a bug that prevented players from receiving loot from the Assault Knights. A reward chest will now be awarded after all three Assault Knight events have finished, and will be given to the corresponding participants even if only one Assault Knight was defeated.

To encourage players to split up, the boon from the associated Attunement Pool will now be required in order to damage each Assault Knight, and only 50 players can have the attunement for each color simultaneously.

Fixed a server crash during the Prime Hologram encounter.

Fixed an issue in which the Synergetic Assault Knight could be pulled into the water.

Good luck coordinating this event with no commander tags. The fact that there’s a precise number of heads will put this event to ruin. As if it hasn’t already.

This is where guilds like [TTS] excel. They’ll have groups of 50 ready for each knight in their own overflow. As was said by Autumn, this event was designed to be done within 5 minutes with all 3 knights being attacked simultaneously.

To an organised group, this should be a no-brainer… get in, dodge when necessary, pile on the DPS (conjured weapons, embers, etc.), watch it burn burn burn.

They are taking the decision of who stays and who leaves out of the players hands. It will of course be the first 50 people there, if you are number 51 or higher, you will not be able to get the buff, will not be able too do damage, so you will have to leave and go to a different knight.

Wouldn’t it be easier just for a shield to pop up in the area of each knight when 50 players has been reached? It would actually TELL you when one is full.

There are 2 problems with No More Tricks, Scarlet:

1. You can load into the fight standing on a scorch mark, failing the achievement instantly.

2. The scorch marks can sometimes still do damage even after their visual effect disappears, which made me fail it even when I was lucky enough to load in while not standing on a scorch mark.

Also, the door is out of range of her laser attacks, and I often see people afking there.

After arguing with an engineer for a while, you begin to realize that he actually enjoys it.

OK, so it looks like the new strategy is going to be like how the Marionette ended up. Prior to the new hour, people gather up at the 3 locations, with Commanders doing a head count, then everybody just sticks to their Knight all the way through (no point in overzerging one Knight since you can’t deal damage and thus can’t get loot, and no point in going from one Knight to another since you only get 1 chest).

I still don’t see how this is better than a mechanic that is already implemented elsewhere:

‘All three knights must be killed within a 3 minute time window and within the allotted 12 minute time for the event.’

Wouldn’t that more elegantly solve all these problems?

This would allow (for those not looking at the status of the three knights) for simple map chat call-outs like ‘Hold off on green’ or ‘Need help with blue’ etc. The orchestration would feel rewarding when pulled off correctly and it would make the fight that much more rewarding.

Of course in the heat of battle everything is a kittenaotic (no idea why that word is censored), but how much more realistic and exciting would this make it? I think much more than simply realizing you’re doing no damage and so run blindly to the next Knight hoping you’re not the 51st player to get there.

I think the main issue I have with the achievement no more tricks scarlet is my loading time.. I have a relatively long loading screen.. it has messed up various of achievements with the marionette and it will mess up the achievements in scarlets sky thing.. why.. while I am Loading.. I get hit.. and thus no achievement.. which has frustrated me to no end until I have simply given up..
So I think my question would be.. all achievements like that.. ( marionette.. such as stomp, avoid her sword attack etc, no more tricks scarlet and all future ones..) Any chance of changing them.. if not I know not to even try anymore… lol

May I suggest that the achievement Six Minutes to Knightfall be adjusted?

People got this achievement before this patch much easier with zerging or glitches.

Currently it is nearly impossible for a random population in LA to get this. I don’t like this trend of tieing temporary achievements to whether others are properly geared and fighting effectively. We have no control over the gear and skills of others.

This needs to be made into a raid so like minded people can come together and do this in a coordinated manner. Not a public event at this difficulty. This is not very different from wurm as a event being a mass failure for the general public.

Ran to blue first at random (and because I want the blue back piece…worth a shot). Soon realized I wasn’t getting the attunement and so doing 0 damage.

Immediately asked in map chat who was under 50. Understandably it was hard for anyone to tell in the midst of battle.
A note here, since I have my culling turned all the way down it was impossible to tell how many players were anywhere. I’m sure I’m not the only one having to do this due to crashing with culling turned up.

Looked at the status of the 3 Knights and saw that green was behind so rushed off to go help, hoping there wasn’t already 50 there. There wasn’t…GREAT!…finally doing some damage.

Of course there was only maybe 10 there, the rest were finishing off Red & Blue (no reason to leave if you are already in the first 50).

We unlucky 10 ineffectually wailed on Green until the timer ran out…fail.

Those who where lucky enough to be in the 50 for Red and Blue got a chest…those that ran to Green to help…nothing.

My suggestions:

  • Make a simple windowed time (unreliant upon a 50 max player cap) in which the Knights need to be killed, within the total max time of 12 minutes.
  • Make the status of the Knights during the event display throughout the entire map. When downed and waypointing or just entering there is no way to tell where to go until you get there, and by then it’s often too late.
  • If the event succeeds all get the appropriate loot. If a person is lucky enough to get a core they choose (much like choosing a reward from a personal story) which core they get.

That would simply work. So far this simply isn’t.

Let me start by saying, this is an awesome event! I was a bit upset over the long period of no reply to the issues, but I understand how it must have been scrambling to try to figure out how to fix them.

Now, with this latest patch, there is no way that only letting 50 people have the boon is going to work. Especially if anyone is ever going to get the 6 minute achievement. Reason being that this is a scaled up event. Many people are in here on level 10 and below characters, and 80’s with horrible builds. Many people can’t comprehend the mechanics of the fight. I have yet to be in a fight where conditions aren’t being reflected at a rate that could cause siezures if you looked at the knight’s stat bar. Between people with low damage builds, low level characters, and not understanding how the fight works, it’s just not going to work out.

I understand how the fight was intended to be done, but the people of Lion’s Arch figured out a better way to defeat the enemy that you designed. Personally, I think that is awesome! Why not just let us do it our way instead of trying to force us to do it the way it was originally intended. After all, we are the ones who pay the bills. With this spectacular finale that you have all put together for us, is the players getting a little bit of extra loot really a big deal?

Anyways, just my two cents. Keep up the great work!

You stated the problem I had – that many are having and many more will have.

This event just became the most broken thing in the game.

My suggestions: When the Knights fall in, they need to have their event display up no matter where you are in the map. In addition, you need to put in an indicator of how many people are AT each of the Knights, either by an indicator of how many are actually in the area, or how many actually have the appropriate buff.

this has taken what was a decently fun and rewarding event, and turned it into a massive waste of time that is poorly rewarded, and on top of failing even more due to terrible splitting mechanics for the knights AND even worse, the prime holo, the crappy RNG takes whatever small reward you could have got. I’m sick of grinding out hours and hours and hours on multiple runs around the clock to get a bunch of bull**** rares and some ******* taffy. INFURRRRRRRRIIAAATINGGGGGG. why are the changes so erratic? why is it that I can play 16 hours a day, open dozens of bags and get doodoo? This is why people champ farm and dungeon run all day or just quit instead of bothering with these conceptually awesome, yet poorly executed releases. Why bother playing through buggy content a hundred times to get nothing, when you can just farm elsewhere and buy whatever is new in a fraction of the time?

Not to mention this “fix” patch went live just before midnight friday, making this yet another LS patch that is actually only a little over a week long. due to things not only failing to work, but getting perpetually WORSE over the following days…

There is no point delaying releases to make sure they are “really polished” if after the first one, you go right back to the same sloppy rushing pace. Fantastic content is being completely overshadowed by big mishaps and flip floppy decisions on how to fix it.

Unfortunately for me and for anyone else who’s main goal is to get a particular color back piece upgrade the best strategy for this event is now:

  • Camp early the particular Knight you hope to get the core from, assuring you one of the 50 max spots.
  • Stay there irregardless of the status of the other knights, you will get the loot as soon as it is downed whether or not the event fails.

This is getting dangerously close to the awful ‘kill stealing’ or camping of other MMO’s.

I’m willing to forgo the blue backpiece out of my objection to this strategy. Not many others will do the same however, which is totally understandable. Making this the optimal strategy for attaining a soon to be out of reach item is unacceptable.

I love this game and absolutely respect that the developers are doing all they can to make it the best it can be. I sincerely hope they take some of these suggestions to heart in this or future updates so we can all continue to enjoy the game we love.

But GW2 Living Story mentality is usually more along the lines of zerging through content, making it a little naive to base encounter timings off of the first of three objectives. Consider the Three-Headed Wurm encounter – all three have to be defeated in the time allotted in order to progress. Perhaps relevant code to check that condition can be ported to the Knights.

It’d be interesting to see whether the mentality would change if they made it obvious that they have to die simultaneously.

Like say, telling players whether they’re among the first X on each knight who qualify for loot.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

Another pair of ideas that randomly popped into my head. If one knight goes down, A) Increase the cap of players that can get the attunement buff to 75 for the remaining 2 knights, or 150 if there’s only one knight, and Allow players to use those platforms which teleport you to the Breachmaker, to teleport to one of the other two knights. This way players that kill their knight first can still help out, and waste minimal time as well.

Those 3 knights which were completely bug ridded on release have really spoiled this finale of the living story…such a shame because the previous update was great…

Atm if a blue knight is killed but the other 2 aren’t then only the players involved in killing the blue knight get any loot…the players at the other knights get zip, nothing, oh wait they get a nice repair bill…

Is this how its mean’t to work now?

Our attempt on YB went sort of ok. We killed all the knights and did not see complaints of no loot. And then the platforms went bad. My knight happened to be the first one down, got all 3 attunes and went to portal. I was one of the first in. Well our platform was severely undermanned. If the design is green to nw blue to ne red to south, the issue was some red ran off to help blue kill the knight since we didn’t have 50 at any knight.

And of course no core, so meh. It is still a flawed battle after how many patches to fix?

Great fix! I like the event a lot more after this fix and it worked out great. Only issue is that once again I got booted right after killing all the knights and accepting my reward. Not that I have a beast of a computer and I had 50+ fps at the time. Luckily after spamming my party members join button I was able to get back in the area and get into the scarlet fight after someone else probably got booted since it was hard capped the first couple times I tried to join.

Sarcasm aside… Would it be possible to tell us the exact “default” hardcap number for players in LA map? If it turns out to be like 100 or 120, that may ease some tension with this “fix”.

I heard that as a ranger if your pet gets hit my a scorch mark or any attacks on the hologram fight you dont get the achievements, even if it is set on passive…is that true?

I do feel that one thing should be changed. All players participating in the Knight fight should get a reward corresponding to how many Knights were defeated, even if they weren’t present at the Knights that got killed. As an example:

- Map splits up 50-50-50 at the 3 Knights.
- Blue Knight is killed, Red and Green fail.
- All players who were fighting one of the Knights get a Tier 1 chest reward. (Players who were afk or doing other map events get nothing, since they didn’t qualify for participation in the meta event.)

If the map had managed to kill Red and Green as well, then all 150 players would get a Tier 3 chest reward, regardless of which Knight they assisted at.

Only issue is that once again I got booted right after killing all the knights and accepting my reward. Not that I have a beast of a computer and I had 50+ fps at the time. Luckily after spamming my party members join button I was able to get back in the area and get into the scarlet fight after someone else probably got booted since it was hard capped the first couple times I tried to join.

Just happened to me for, oh, the 14th time. I am disgusted with being dumped to my desktop. Took down a knight, dumped. Defeated hologram. Dumped before I could reach chest. This is complete and utter bull…“kitten.”

By reading the forums, it seems that the Blue Assault knight is resetting to full again. Autumn, can you confirm if this is bugged again or if the Menders are healing it? Are the Menders suppose to be healing it?

I agree though that the toughness on the fights / scaling seems off still. It is going to make the fight much more difficult and if it isn’t fixed until after the weekend, I am afraid people will just ignore it until it’s gone. Marionette attendance dropped a lot on the second week and if people have the meta already…

As for rewards, I would hope the new system is a bug as each knight should reward everyone helping in event much like the citizens if they want to promote this new gameplay. If rewards are not changed, people will not bother playing it which I am sure some are already seeing lower populations on their instances because of it.

This is a living story with a 2 week timeframe. The main point of this story is to be facing Scarlet in a major fight. The Assault Knights should not be the focus of this content. Just smaller mobs to get power cores from to get to the Scarlet fight, but that is my opinion. I have faith that ArenaNet will fix it, but I wanted to leave some feedback.

This is true, same for any class that has pets, at least those classes can not summon them. Yet Anet decided to make it nigh impossible for rangers, and no, as a ranger you will never, ever never get a perma-stow option for likes this.

This is where guilds like [TTS] excel. They’ll have groups of 50 ready for each knight in their own overflow. As was said by Autumn, this event was designed to be done within 5 minutes with all 3 knights being attacked simultaneously.

To an organised group, this should be a no-brainer… get in, dodge when necessary, pile on the DPS (conjured weapons, embers, etc.), watch it burn burn burn.

For people that want to play with guilds like TTS, that’ll work out fine for them, but for others, not so much, unless they’re on a server like mine or can guest to one. I just want the people that wanna experience it to be able to do so. Logging in at the end of the day should be fun, not a hair pulling exercise in frustration., know what I mean?

All of the Battle for Lion’s Arch achievements have been tested for their functionality and do unlock correctly; I have a few tips/notes for each:

No More Tricks, Scarlet

  • This achievement requires a good deal of skill and awareness, make sure you are watching for the red telegraphs that show where the Holograms will fire next and make sure you do not run through any active scorch marks during the fight, good luck!

All achievements DO NOT unlock correctly, this one for example requires that you NEVER be downed or you don’t get the achievement, where is that requirement in your text? where is it in the achievement description?
or is it a bug, if it is then correct it don’t say everything was tested since it was obviously not.

I think the bolded part is going to be an issue. What if there are 57 people at blue, or green or red? Who is moving, who is staying? This is alot of coordination for an hourly event for LS content. Some servers don’t do this for the 3 headed wurm, and that’s permanent content.

They are taking the decision of who stays and who leaves out of the players hands. It will of course be the first 50 people there, if you are number 51 or higher, you will not be able to get the buff, will not be able too do damage, so you will have to leave and go to a different knight.

Some hard core game of musical chairs sans chairs… but not sans alot of frustration

I think I’ll make plans to drive on out to S.C. this weekend, bring my daughter some stuff she needs see how things are when we return.

3 times I knocked down the knights…still no core but atleast now i’m getting champ bags I guess.

I still refuse to believe it’s “just RNG” and that something is up with the loot tables that some people always get stuck on the low side of the loot tables regardless of anything which end up with shoddy loot while other stay stuck on the high end of the loot tables, with all of the exo drops and whatnot . This is pretty much ascended ring only from fractal daily tier ((and I only ended up getting the ring AFTER they fixed it so you could buy it with the tokens , after a month of doing the fractal daily…daily))

It also doesn’t say that even with the appropriate attunement players deal 50% less damage than prior to hotfix.

Darkhaven got zero knights down. Yea, zero. I guested to another server and into an overflow that got Blue and Red down, players went to help Green and overscaled the boss and didn’t have enough attunements to compensate.

Punished for trying to participate positively and cooperatively.

The new approach with the latest patch is impossible… 50 people are not enough to kill the officers within the prescribed time… imagine in 6 minutes for the achievement… seriously, think about how to make the event even because the players are not “encouraged” to divide as you say… quite the contrary! Because if the red is going to die within 15 minutes I have to move to go green or blue where I know from the outset that I will not take the chest? So having said that… or go back to the old style zerg where the event was completable, or give the chest REALLY all for every officer killed even though I did not participate because I was the killing of another officer, or increase the number of people that can take the buff … so at the moment is not playable …

The Scarlet Holo fight begins 5 minutes after the first Knight’s death; originally, this was not an issue because a map divided into groups of three would take down the Knights within 5 minutes of each other. However, with recent player tactic changes, the first Knight is dying as much as 10 minutes before players get up to the Breachmaker, meaning that you will portal up into an active fight, possibly die before you load in, and you can lose time on the Scarlet Holo Fight timer. We are working on ways to make sure that players will have much less risk to portal up to an in progress fight.

For the time being, I encourage you to encourage your fellow players to wait to kill the first Knight until a time where the other two Knights are closer to death. If you can get the Prime attunement in under 5 minutes from the first Assault Knight’s death, you will portal up to a grace period and you will have some time to load in and prepare yourself before the Prime Hologram begins her onslaught. Again, it is an issue we are aware of and should improve with the Assault Knight fixes.

Except that this isn’t clear. There isn’t a secondary timer after the first knight falls.

Unlike the Jungle Wurm, where the timer changes after the first wurm is downed.

Likewise, there’s nothing that clearly tells people to split up except for the Six Minutes to Knightfall achievement.

And I’m sure there are plenty of players, like myself, that are aware of how the event was intended to go (especially after numerous devs have made their intentions clear about splitting up the zerg)… but it’s kind of hard to do anything when everyone else on the map is like “EVERYONE TO BLUE! (knight dies) NOW TO GREEN!”

There’s just no one at the other two knights. In an overflow, people somewhat split up after blue… but not enough people went to red.

In the end, people were complaining “We’d have killed won if people hadn’t left the zerg.”
(Primarily because we almost managed to kill all 3 within the timer.)

They should have made the chest like the wurm/daily/marionette chest.

You get a single chest for participating.

It has set loot for how many knights that you kill.

You only have 5 minutes from the downing of the first knight to kill the other two.

That would fix it mechanics-wise, but it may be too little too late.
