Do you remember when the game is started and the areas had a lot of player? I want it back!

I like to do the daily achievements, but often I can’t find anyone to do the events with me. True some can be soloed, but not all, for me at least. I post on map chat but often nobody answers, and sometimes if there are people nearby they simply ignore the event. I’m finding my friends and guildmates are online less and less, and my partner is often in another area and doesn’t want to pay the cost to teleport to me for a reward that will be less than the cost of teleporting. Personally I don’t like having a go at soloing the “veteran” mob events any more because if I’m the only one there I always die, and the cost of teleporting to a waypoint then the cost of repairs is always more than I can make out of the event.
It was fun at first when there were a lot of people around, now it isn’t anywhere near as much fun as I explore and area and hardly see anyone.

I’ve been surprised at how quickly areas have become deserted. It really is at cross purposes with the design of the events and zones so I hope something is done about it.

Underflow really would be an amazing feature if ANET could work it out. All we can do is cross our fingers…
Posted by: Psyklone.7540
Some events don’t even start if there isn’t enough players around?
No wonder the shatterer never shows up. Theres only 10-15 people in the zone at any one time and we always have the spance since its so freaking easy to defend/retake.
I’m level 50 (starting from Black Friday) and I’ve never seen an event bigger than the giant that attacks that charr town (and just aoe stomps the wall until ranged weapons kill him ever so slowly).
Kinda disappointed. And I’m playing on Dragonbrand, one of the fullest servers there was to chose from

people need to start planning DE runs and posting them here in this forum. That will help.
Posted by: Lorgus.6148
This thread. ANet really needs to start paying attention to what the playerbase is saying and acknowledge when things need to be changed. Either by combining some of the servers to increase the size of PvE, creating one (or several) large PvE only servers, creating underflow or whatever. The important thing is for them to SHOW THAT THEY ARE TAKING THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY. Because otherwise they will start losing players, and eventually die out.

An underflow would be really great! That would make the level 30-60 areas way more fun to play through again. The game would seem so much more alive with underflows avaidable

Agree. It’s really depressing for myself and my wife. It used to be a lot of fun when there were people doing these things but now so much is a barren wasteland.
Between empty zones and “paying” for “fun” we are saddened.

I’m one of those that tried to start with the first big rush through but irl got in the way.
So even with just an hour or so most evenings this has to be the loneliest mmo experiences ever. All the hearts solo, all the everything solo, it’s so solo in the lowbie areas if I actually see someone else run near me I stop and stare.
I haven’t seen a DE trigger since so long ago, I don’t even remember the name of it or even the zone. But that the grand total= 1 fricken DE and I’m lvl42 now.
As far as shouting out in /map chat, lol, crickets.
Anywho I just keep plugging away missing huge chunks of game bought and payed for but never to be seen until the moment I go screw this and play something else.
So /signed for any suggestion to be put in place to solve this.

Many of the comments already made are spot on.
If you are starting up another character you now basically race to 80 and ignore all the content…why? because it is dull on your own. Now that’s a real shame because this game is gorgeous. PVE has a serious case of small fish in large ocean.
Those old GW1 days of grouping up was exciting and a great way to meet new people and companions for future events. I miss them! If the intention was to do away with them, ok…but we need a solution and agree with the underflow server idea.
But for me I would prefer the GW1 grouping zones; unlikely to happen I guess.

Yaks Bend has plenty of people in low levels and people calling out when champs and the difficult DEs are up. Just about right and better imo then launch.
At launch we were tripping over each other. It was a zerg fest and many of the DEs were dull because the difficulty only added more things to get instantly AoEd to death.
Now its a fun challenge.

I can see a few problems with this idea, but if you look at the big picture the pros outweigh the cons. It would be great if there was an “underflow” server. Right now I am working on world completion and I have noticed that in the zones there is no chat, no dynamic events going on, and only see one person throughout my time and that character is usually AFK…..also, when I go to do things like Arah or something, I can never get in because no one will do the dynamic event. The only events I see people doing is dragons and that is not enough. I don’t think this is how Anet pictured their revolutionary dynamic events. I know that’s not how I pictured them.

I love this idea. The funnest part of this game to me is adventuring with other people around. I mean, it is an MMO right?
Posted by: Link.6157
This or the events trigger just needs to be adjusted, i had 2 events in about 1hour 30minutes. + one bugged in a lvl 1-15 area. What you see are group events here and there blocking something you need and with no way to get it. I’m gessing these also block normal events to start. Also, even if it’s a group event, why do mobs 1hit down you? thats just crazy and not my idea of fun.

Jade Quarry. Yes it’s exactly as described. Now lvl54 just racing to finish 1 toon and that’s that. Finally got group for my second only DE at the tail end of lvl47ish 3 days ago. I’m sure the higher lvl I go the more peeps I’ll see its where everyone is (end game).

I’m not sure if there’s some kind of misunderstanding. Are you talking about “Dynamic Events” ? The orange events that pop up all over the place all the time? And you only encountered two of them up to level 54?
Since I don’t see anyone else complaining about the total lack of DE on Jade Quarry I’m pretty sure you must have mixed up something when you were refering to Dynamic Events

I’m a Mesmer not a Tank.

I don’t understand why the RANGE to SEE the events are so small.
Please make some system to follow the events or increase the range for the events and make the BIG event with a HUGE area.
Some events are very hard and don’t have players to make. You can’t see while you don’t get really close. Because of this I can’t do the boss event in the swamp on the human area and some times I can’t do a hard event.
Seriously this destroy the game experience.
Posted by: Venirto.4208
Hmm, a new event could be marked on the map with an icon…
Posted by: HeliaXDemoN.1208
How I see the game now: Small events where some people with LUCK make the event and some times a HIGH level guy come and make the event so kittening fast that anyone low level can do.
Posted by: Dobi.4168
I hope they will add this feature in jan/feb/march…
Posted by: Boinmich.4950
I like the idea.
But, isn’t the downleveling system supposed to encourage higher level players to continue to play lower level areas?
Since that clearly isn’t happening, what could be done so that lvl 80s might be more inclined to re-explore Queensdale or try one of the other zones?
But I suppose that may be a subject for another topic.

I know the problem. While most pve zones can be easily soloed (yes, even the group events done completely alone without any other humans by one mile), I can imagine most players will have trouble soloing the Ruins of Orr: Straights of Devastation, Malchor’s Leap and Cursed Shore. The sheer number of the enemy and their fast respawn rate makes those three Orr maps very hectic to solo.
I am afraid Arenanet won’t solve this problem anytime soon, even though me and some other people have already suggested two working solutions:
1. Adjust the respawn rate of the monsters according to the number of people active on that map zone. In other words: if there are just few people in that map zone, the respawn rate would be considerably slower, giving this solo player better chances to kill the monsters before they spawn again
2. Merge low population servers together. More people in one server = bigger likelyhood to see other players.
I have 100% completed and soloed all the three Orr maps with two different characters (warrior and engineer). I did just one skill point with a group, everything else was me alone. Yes, doing some of those temple events without any help from other human players was painful, slow and sometimes I failed, but I kept trying. If you are interested I might write a guide how to solo the three Orr maps, which seem to be give the biggest problems for most players. I think it can be done with any character class.
I hope I can help. I play on Blacktide, so if you come to my server I might sometimes give a hand to complete some map zones.

PVE is a deadzone. After trying out WvW to see what was up with the culling and finding out engineers blow kitten even more now, I decided to jump on an alt and hit up a chain DE in the Harathi Hinterlands that used to be awesome for xp and drops. It ran across a good part of the map too.
Zone is dead as hell, and there is no way that chain of DEs is ever getting finished again unless a guild decides to level up together or something. It couldn’t even be finished without a good 10+ people contributing if I remember right. What a waste.

I think it depends on your server. I play on Tarnished Coast (which is one of the most popular and populated servers) and I’ve never had trouble finding other people in the zones I’m in. Things do get quieter during my night times (I’m from Australia, and TC is a US server), but there’s usually still at least a handful of people around.
I imagine that ANet will soon start to merge emptier servers together. This is a normal part of an MMO’s lifetime as the population stabilises and people gravitate to more popular servers. An underflow mechanic would be undeniably awesome though.

Engineers blowing out kittens in WvWvW? Oh well, at least in euro tiers #1 and #2, the most common character class seems to be the thief. Last time I looked I had 4 people from my server nearby: ALL of them thieves. And there was lots of enemy teams with 1-2 enemy thieves roaming and looking for single lone targets or small groups. Also groups of guardian + thief, mesmer + thief, elementalist + ranger + guardian + warrior + mesmer etc. Engineer is probably the rarest profession in WvWvW. In fact when I play engineer, I rarely ever seen any other engineers, especially on the other side. I see huge enemy zergs with 20-30 people, but zero engineers there!
Except for that huge Harathi boss who summons 4 winds and does crazy burning damage, I think the dynamic events of that Harathi map can be soloed easily. Yes, even those dynamic events where you need to defend the camp from two sides can be soloed. I did that with my elementalist, also one warrior or engineer was enough to do most Harathi Hinterlands dynamic events without any other human players nearby. Basically the key is: kill fast or cause serious (preferably area) condition damage which will kill the baddies very soon (even if you are already running away), move fast, time your dodges well and dodge like no tomorrow, hit & run (retreat to heal yourself). I can imagine it would be a problem if you play one of the most popular builds e.g. a greatsword warrior. Those GS warriors have great mobility and do huge direct damage, but many of them tend to be a bit of glass cannons, not that efficient for soloing. Greatsword is still overpowered, but I prefer to stay out of OP choices and use something else. Tip: if your character uses blocking, most enemies stop attacking, giving you time to rest (recharge, regenerate etc). Also stealth makes things more easier (guess what character class is master of stealth… the one dominating the WvWvW meta).
Still I very much understand the frustration of most players who are alone in map zones. Arenanet: please merge the low population servers and adjust the spawning rate of monsters to be lower if that pve map zone has fewer people.;

I don’t see devs try to solve some problems that make people stop to play. I only see one time events and balances.
I waiting to back to the game until feb or I will get my money back. The game is nice but is focused on items and offer little amount of skills and type of weapons.
Like make a Necro summon, you don’t have much options of summons and you don’t have weapons giving a summon or make a nice combo.
So much limited…

So, this past Sunday evening I finally got around to go and kill some karkas in the new zone, met 14 bots (8 in 1 area and 6 on the beach where I landed) and 2 humans. So far this has been my expierence running with bots and barely any humans. This is especially true for lvls 30-70 areas. Maguuma server here.

i can’t claim to have even close to as bad of luck as that guy, but I will say that when I try to level up one of my alts in PVE I encounter maybe 1 DE every hour or so, sometimes less.
That is still, in my opinion, incredibly low. And I’m not like trying to avoid them… I will see 1 per hour when I’m going through each renown heart and doing every single one. I look around for NPCs to talk to etc… just nothing seems to pop for me. It sucks because after like 4 renown hearts the content is way too high for me (since renown hearts don’t give you enough xp to level).
I usually try until around level 10 to work on a PVE alt, then I move them to WvW and level the rest of the way. The PVE environment just isn’t what it was when the game released.

Underflow? Make this happen.
Posted by: dumb.3657
Agreed. Especially bad in the high-middle areas. I’ve been trying to do Fireheart Rise the past couple of nights and there are so many events which are impossible to solo, and I’ve literally seen one other person – just one – and they were idling.
I’m on the Maguuma server and all of the high-mid areas seem to be ghost towns. I considered changing servers to one that’s more populated, but I’d have to spend $35 to get enough gems to pay for the transfer because, of course, it costs 1800 gems and you can only buy them in batches of 1600 or 2800. But I digress.
Dead server + the right mouse button bug have really hampered my enjoyment of the game. I think I’m going to have to move on to something else and maybe check back in a few months and see if ANET have bothered to fix things.

I am kind of in agreement. Maybe not “make” them do events, but they could do a lot more to encourage players to do them.
I am not as convinced that the problem is wholly curable by combining players – As time goes by fewer and fewer people will be starting and progressing new characters. What is needed is better incentives to encourage max-level players to return to lower levels.
Several ideas have been offered on these forums. They could improve loot tables for level 80s who participate in lower level events, they could change gathering nodes so that level 80s in a lower zone get higher level materials (although there would need to be some control for the player who might want to gather low level mats), they could provide more achievements for exploring and/or participating in lower events once you reach 80, they could create an system of quests dragging you all over Tyria and requiring you to vanquish certain monsters (presumably with worthwhile rewards), they could implement a system for artifact collection (like Rift, not like GW1), they could provide “mentoring” rewards for level 80s who group with lower level players, they could even change the nature of the lower level events – bigger zone wide events, etc – just to name a few.
I remember when the game was just starting out, a lot of folks worried that the game didn’t have much by the way of end-game – the response was “there is the whole game”, the idea being that the zones should be re-playable and that the down-leveling system will keep them enjoyable. The problem is that they made all the high level rewards almost exclusively obtainable through repeating the same high level content over and over. This doesn’t encourage people to play the rest of the game, it encourages exactly the sort of behavior we see now – people camping at event sites or spamming LFG for particular dungeons and largely empty lower levels.

Yes please to underflow server!
My BF and I were playing this game together but he finally quit after one too many bad experiences. He was a much better player than I could ever hope to be. It’s sad that he’d rather watch reruns of Pawn Stars than explore this world any further. So now I wander alone — farming out of boredom, creating alts in hopes that one of them will be cool enough to make it feel fun again, and getting killed a lot. It’s depressing, but less depressing when there are other people around to help me kill the champion that’s standing in the way of the last skill point I need to complete a map.

While this is a very old necro’d thread.. The idea in this is really good. I had the most fun while levelling when the game was just released. Not just because everything was new, everything was fresh. It was because I could run into other people and seek out help for events and actually got a response. If I see someone now it’s unlikely they will even talk and I sorta refrain from it aswell, because most interesting stuff happened in bigger groups.
