Farming the Giant outside Arah
I’m glad for OP; but at the same time feel sorry for you farmers.
Oh well.. another upcoming nerf, thanks to greedy farmers.
For some reason people on my server SOS are still farming it?
They claim it’s not fixed. I dunno why, i saw the patch notes myself.
What nerfing events like these is, it blocks people from being able to access high level mats for their legendaries. It ruins legit players only real sources for those mats so they get bored of not being able to accomplish anything and then quit the game.
And really, if anet was doing this to block gold farmers like those, theyd find a new game, there’s plenty to go around where this “gold farming” is an issue and even promoted by their creators.
Gold buying and gold selling in this particular game has been very rare from day 1, nothing like other games.
Even when lyssa was done (the ultimate “gold farm”), I really only saw legit players. I wonder where all these quiet chinese farms were then? In your mind, maybe, but definitely not in this game.

Seriously, Anet, get a kittening reality check and let people do what they want !
They did. Now people who want to access Arah will be able to.
look at all this QQ,
Anet has stated that they don’t want farmers, and all you guys do is look for new ways to farm then cry when it’s removed. What the heck do you expect.
You scream and shout “Y U NO LET US PLAY DA GAME THE WAY WE WANT” when you should probably think “Why don’t i go play a game that let’s me do the things i want”
Anet made the game, but you don’t have to play it.
Isn’t it patently obvious that the game is designed so that nobody owns open world events or mobs. Anyone can start an event, anyone can finish an event, anyone can join into an event for a share of the reward. Anyone who wants to kill a mob can do so and gets a share of that reward.
The farmers are wrong on so many counts here. Firstly they should never ever claim to own an open world mob or event in a game where nobody ever owns a mob or event. Secondly they shouldn’t make themselves look like jerks and idiots by abusing people who want to play the game properly. That’s just vile. Finally they shouldn’t feel self pity that they are too poor, using it as an excuse to spoil other player’s gaming.
Personally I feel this is a problem Anet created. When ascended, legendary and even exotics need 100 to 250 of a rare material, you’re going to have farmers. I’m not talking about gold farmers. I mean legitimate people that WANT to gain each and every piece for their “shiny” the hard way. As crazy as that is to most of us, me included, there’s nothing wrong with that. However, Anet keeps taking away their farming areas and there’s something seriously wrong with that.
I understand that they want to get rid of goldfarmers and I can respect them for that but it should NEVER be at the expense of legitimate players! There’s a point where all the restrictions end up doing more harm than good. I don’t care how many graphs they show me or what convoluted, algebraic equations they toss my way to prove otherwise. The fact that Cursed Shore and Southsun Core are nearly empty while Queendale has a healthy population shows that they have clearly crossed that line and it is hurting the game.

./MovesHandsAwayFromHead while making a explosion sound. Someone gets it.
Now how to make Anet realize this…..
Man, people see the word farm and the first thing they do is grab their pitch forks, but its nice someone sees the big picture.
+1
I can see and feel the effects of the nerfs that Anet did to Cursed Shore. It’s not as alive with players as it felt before. They only ever show up for Temples or Plinx anymore – when they aren’t bugged like TC’s Temple of Melandru is/was. I haven’t seen that temple in a few days, but it was bugged after the most recent addition to the patch notes.
And I only ever go to Cursed Shore to farm when I have nothing else to do.
Farmers (and by extension people who are only there so they can obtain X number of Y material so they can make Z item) need somewhere to farm. It’s understandable (and completely reasonable) that you’re upset with what’s been forced to happen – but this is literally a case of “don’t hate the player, hate the game.” If other methods of farming items weren’t nerfed into the ground (and therefore less viable than Giant farming), they wouldn’t be forced to block you from seeking Arah on your own server. You wouldn’t have to look for a server that runs Arah events normally.
Speaking of other servers, Tarnished Coast is one of those servers that does not farm the giant. We routinely complete the entire event, from what I have seen.
I might also suggest – for your future Arah runs – that you consider opening up a thread for an open Arah gate, much like the threads asking for uncontested temples. I would do this myself but I don’t have any interest in Arah.

Yeah. That must be it. Nothing to do with the Homeland Support achievement.

80’s had been running around Queensdale in numbers long before Homeland Support, and might very well be long after the achievement is a faded memory in the history tab.

Yes because it’s a guaranteed zone to get events done quickly for daily/monthly. I don’t think that’s what Crossplay suggested, though. I think he meant to point out that old players are leaving and only new players play the game.
Could be wrong, ofc. What I do know is that the 80s in Queensdale are not there to farm, unless the Behemoth event is up.
What I mean is, I go to Queensdale because Queensdale has just about everything I need for my dailies. I don’t even bother with Orr unless my guild is taking a temple because farming isn’t a profitable or as fun as it use to be.
I loved it when events happened more often because there was always people around me. We formed impromptu parties and I even made a friend or two because we joked a lot to make the farming hours go by faster. But these days I’m lucky if I see more than one person. I will admit that the Cursed Shore does feel cold, lonely and uninviting now but for all the wrong reasons.
nerfing this event did absolutly nothing to help the op or others who want to run arah, in fact it only made it harder, because many just wont even bother with it now, i mean think about it, you wanna run arah and its contested…u cant 5 man the event, and if by some miracle u convince 20 ppl to help u, it takes like 20 minutes to open it, its far more easy and fast to just have 1 player guesting…
i was to some of those farms and after 1 hour or so we would always just kill champ and finish the event, now we dont do it anymore, at some point we had ppl crying “oh we cant do arah this is bs”, so we said fine, go ahead and finish the event, and we left leaving those 5 crybabies with no option but to guest, but gl to the op opening his gates of arah with his 5 man grp, cause the farmers who were opening for you, wont bother now.

u cant 5 man the event
Why not? The hard parts were killing the eye and getting risen faster than they could respawn to occupy the capture zone… now neither of those matters.
So, is the Champ Giant the latest farming spot in Orr? I’ve not encountered that on my server, and I run the Gates of Arah 3-5 times a week. I have noticed I always get at least one rare there and up to four at times, along with putrid essences, etc. I just run the whole chain, and getting 35-40 moldy bags is enough to keep me happy. (I tend to have low expectations on loot drops.)
Most of my PvE time is spent in CS just running around though. I don’t farm any particular event, even the “nerfed” ones like Jofast, etc. I don’t run world bosses like I used to, as well, because the drops are always greens and blues. I can get those in WvW with a bit more risk.
