Lost shores DC
The Mad King event was clean, simple, and fun.
Proper event execution, and fun, functional gameplay, will always trump a complex but sloppy and (probably) expensive event.
I’ve filled in the survey about the Lost Shores event today and to be honest, it was mostly positive.
Dynamic events and especially those that really impact the world, add an extra dimension to the game … although something like GW 2 is more of a lifestyle in my opinion ^^.
There sure goes a lot of programming and effort into preparing these events and to be honest, apart from the sporadic drop-by of Murphy and his infamous law, its fun to have such events. And after the first major event most of the lag was dealt with (in each case that was so for me) and also every part of the scavaging quest was eventually achievable (again my experience). So they took effort to solve problems.
However one time events pose the problem of “forcing” people to play at a certain hour and assumes nothing goes wrong on critical times … like when the final awesome reward comes available.
The simplest FIX to these problems in the future, in my opinion, is to simply make the final reward a one-time account bound thing (e.g. the chest can only be opened once per account) and to let the final event take place a second time the following weekend or so. This allows people who just couldn’t make it that weekend to have a second chance and would avoid the DC problem we’re facing now.
The work has been done; running the final event twice seems, although I’m not an expert, more easy than either leaving people without anything or try to find a way to evaluate who would get a compensation and who doesn’t.
