It is confusing to see a post in your history, or someone elses, or in a search, from last October without a 2013 appended to it. Especially considering posts people are making now, in April, do not have a 2014 appended to them.

It will be even more confusing when this October rolls around.

I agree. I suggested this long ago, but………….

Nothing against that suggestions. My default is how long ago the post was done.

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

After a year, they all say ‘About a year ago’. So, posts from 20 months ago say ‘About a year ago’.

No idea if it will change to ‘About two years ago’.

They should still add something which clarifies which year, or when, considering that months overlap within that 20 week window.

Besides, seeing a post labeled “October” without a year, when it is now April, with no year, is just bad design.

Haha, I never noticed that.

Not sure if you are disagreeing or agreeing, but yes….I suggested some time ago, that a year would be helpful on the dates. Especially, as time goes by. Not really understanding your ‘20 week’ reference, though. =)

Maybe most people use the alternate default option of looking at when posts are dated. I prefer the time/date option, which is why year-date would be helpful.

I also would prefer a proper timestamp, complete with year. It’s not so clear to see something like “about 1 year ago” when it could even be like “1 year, 11 months, 17 days ago” per example. Also, what about posts from the very beginning of the game (that’s almost 2 years old)? Seeing a post from “November, 2012” just showing like “November” would be odd.

I just noticed year dates on posts that are from 2012 and, at least some, from 2013. Yay!

Edit: It only shows up on posts brought up through the (somewhat unreliable) Search feature. =/

Doesn’t do that for me. That would be great if it did. All I can do is click it, to change between the two formats.

Well, that is kind of frustrating, I tested it in IE and firefox with same result

You must be fortunate. Or have some kind of different settings. The only time I’ve ever seen a year on the date, was when I tried (today) to find something with the Forum Search function, opened a thread it brought up out of curiosity, and noticed a year on the dates.

I have no idea why years would show up there, and not on the regular, non-searched forum threads.

Just tried a search, again, and tried mousing over the date (with year included)…nothing. Nor will those dates (with year included) let me click to change the format. Must be in a different data-base, or something.

That is odd. I’ve always had the resting cursor info pop-up on posting time. However, I agree that it should have always been included in the actual text on the page for when a post was made.

I’ll see if I can find a setting for different browsers that would affect this and prevent it from occurring, in case you may want it to be (re)enabled for your browser.

edit
Interesting, suddenly it will not pop up unless I first toggle how the post date is displayed. It seems interacting with the post time displaying format reveals that area for hover info display (similar to flash videos like youtube where you need to click the video to make it the active focus or active page element to then be able to interact with the controls).

Perhaps try swapping the post date display mode and then try to hover on it to see if the info pop-up displays.

Ahh…I see. I get the pop-up when I use the other format. Too bad. I don’t like the so-many, -months ago. I prefer times, and dates (without hovering).

Thanks for clearing up the mystery, Stinvec.

Now, if searched posts show a date with year, I am still unclear why non-searched ones do not.

It would be nice if those of us that use the actual-time/date format had years included.
