There’s supposed to be forum maintenance today… or at some point soon. PLEASE put this at the top of the fix list.

I just came to this sub-forum to ask if anybody else has the search issue, then to my surprise, I saw this thread on the top!

Funny topic, 11months old and still broken search.

Search for Guild Wars 2 and you get one result back. Classic!

Guild Wars 2 is a really new innovative game with certain mechanics we’ve only seen in this game. All the fuzz about how the devs create their own customized tools to create their game and such. Truly magnificent. Amazing!!

But a search-function for the forums. Nah-uh, that’s way over their paygrade

No but seriously, I’ve never bothered with the search function so I’ve grown to use the forum by searching manually. Have the devs forgotten or something? I mean… I don’t do programing but a search function for a forum? That’s seems like something you learn in “Programming 101 for beginners”.

7 months & a forum update later…

Closing in on well over 12 months and the search function is still busted to pieces. I’m starting to wonder if they know how to fix it. Wait, if they did they would then it would be fixed. It would be nice to hear from someone from ANet to let us know what is going on.

Given that, I think it is time they toss a Google Search box up there and call it a day.

The search bar for the forums needs to be improved.

Whenever you type in something, you only get results from the first thread.

It needs to be where you can type in any word that appears in any of the threads, and results will come up.

Search feature for the forums ranges from temperamental to unusable.

The unofficial work around is to use a web browser and append your query with ‘site:forum-en.guildwars2.com’ to get decent results.

You people are sooooo impatient. The forum filter has only been broken for 11 months! That’s way too soon obviously to worry about it. It will be fixed any minute now! Or maybe any decade, whichever comes last.

Stupid buggy filter

The search bar has NEVER WORKED and like the many unfixed bugs in the game it too will never be fixed.

I have a plan to get an internship at anet, on my first week I will pretend to work through lunch but in reality I will be fixing the search function. Once that is fixed I will walk out to never return. If successful, I will apply the same measure to other anet related issues.

I just got told I created a duplicate threat. Couldn’t find any other since the search is useless. gotta agree, this forum would be a million times better with a search that actually worked. can’t be that hard to get some index logic from one of the big players. hell you could probably buy yahoo for 2c

It is obvious at this point Anet doesn’t care and or they have no idea how to fix the search function. It’s a big fat blemish that I find odd they refuse to address.

Imagine a potential customer that decides to visit the forum and check out what is going on. They see the search feature totally busted. I don’t think that would provide a very good first impression.

Maybe it is just me, but if I was running the GW2 show I’d be furious that the official GW2 forum is so broken.

So funny… I first posted in this thread 12 months ago and see that it is still active. I do not even advise fixing the search function now – Please remove the search box completely. It looks bad on the website for having it there in a non-useful capacity over such a long period of time. It would be better to remove it quietly…

Hope it gets fixed soon, since it’s annoying to have countless threads about the same issue only because people can’t find the existing ones even when they try.

fix your search button anet……….its really embarrassing, even more so than the in-game bugs.

my friends have websites that have working search functions.

It’s been broken since they made it.

It barely ever finds anything searched for… Even words you can plainly see before you search.

I can’t even search for ‘search’ to see if this has been discussed previously

Honestly, the search function was disabled to this current condition a few weeks after release. Either they don’t want us to search their board, want us to join Fan-Site Boards again or just want to hire more employees for board moderation. No matter what it is, I have no hope of this getting fixed before release of the next ArenaNet game…

Agreed. The lack of a properly working search feature makes things hard to report and follow up, also creates a lot of threads with the same subject. Bad for we users but also bad for devs and moderators too.

I took a break for about one year and recently started playing again. I was trying to research stuff on this forum, but the search always returned 0 results, no matter what I looked for. Don’t know if I should laugh or cry now, after finding out it seems to have been broken for about as long as I was gone.

I am trying to search things like “map completion”, which on a reasonably used forum should have some citation. The auto fill on the search box, is not only highly irritating, but wrong. It decides what you are looking for and boots you out of the box into any citation that begins with “ma”…..or has “ma” somewhere in the word…..

Excuse me, but which idiot decided to leave this in as better than no auto fill what so ever?

Every now and then I come here just to look at this thread and cry a little. Possibly also laugh a little.

It’s sad that it has come to this but this is how you use the search for the GW2 forum, go to Google and before your search query put this text : “site:https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum”.

Please remove the Search button until it actually works. Or replace it with a google hotbar search or something.

It’s such a bogus experience when I type in a word I’m staring right at in the title of a thread topic and it comes back “0 results”

This thread has actually became nostalgic for me. I posted here over a year ago and throughout the year. We should get a birthday reward for posting in an active thread over the span of a year.

Hehe, this made me laugh.

The search on these forum is abysmal. It returns nothing most of the time, 1 post in best case scenario. I have to google posts on this forum lol.

I can speculate the search is ‘deliberately broken’ for performance reasons.

However I have some suggestions for Anet staff/Intern that gets stuck fixing this:

(easiest) – File a PO for Google search appliance. Install, write wrapper, success!
(harder) – Install Omega and Xapian and go to town. Tougher because it’s probably a cross-team project with some IT involvement.

Unbelievable that over a year and no fix… This should be someones priority. I can’t even search viable guild listings because it’s impossible to search for my server…. ugh. Game is called Guild Wars, can’t search for a guild… fantastic.

To find a relevant topic, I literally just went through the archive page by page with Ctrl+F. The thread I found was about another sorely lacking forum feature (an Ignore List), that they said seven months ago that they plan to add.

So. There’s officially zero forum tech support. Is that correct? Things are as good as they’re ever going to be, until it breaks worse, and worse, and worse, and gets shut down entirely.

no wonder that 10 threads per bug exist (each with 2-10 posts) … because no one can find the existing …

Search still isn’t working. Search for thief in the thief section and it finds nothing.
