Unnecessary Moderator PMs, a Bug??

Hi,

I’m not sure if this is a bug but since I am a forum admin (incl. back-end) and moderator myself, I haven’t encountered a feature wherein we get moderator PMs from threads we replied on (but not created) when that thread gets a moderator action. At least not from my choice of forum software (vBulletin, Invision Power Board, Simple Machines Forum, Vanilla, and others [Chinese and Korean made forum software]).

It’s kind of confusing (not yet annoying) because I just replied on the thread but I also get a moderator PM with a message that makes it appear that I created the thread, and with a link that leads not on the topic itself but to the parent forum where it was moved (in case it was moved).

If this isn’t a bug of the forum software you are using – fangamer forum (which I haven’t tried yet) – then this post is a suggestion. Only the thread starter should receive PMs if the thread received any moderator action. The “repliers” should only receive a PM if their “reply-post” itself received a moderator action.

Thank you very much.

:)

I ran into this problem myself. There was a thread regarding the status of support tickets that was created by Arenanet when the forums were first brought online, which had about ten pages of comments and questions in them (one of which was mine, nothing out of the ordinary).

Over a week later a moderator removes all the comments/questions from said thread and adds this to the post:

“To keep this post as visible as possible and thus beneficial to everyone, we have decided to remove all discussion from this thread. Thank you for your understanding.”

That’s all fine and dandy, but because I happened to have posted in the thread I received a PM informing me of this operation along with a notification that I had received an infraction. That last part left me scratching my head wondering if I had just gotten bitten by a bug or a moderator clicking the wrong button. For all I know everyone who had participated in the thread has received the same infraction. I’ve tried to get more information on whether it was intentional (and if so, why) or just a mistake, but five days later I haven’t heard anything more regarding it.

But you did get an infraction?

That’s weird and possibly a bug then.

I just got one of these messages myself.
It doesn’t help that the PMs are not specifying which thread was moved, which is in itself very annoying.

Yep, it only leads to the sub-forum it was moved to. So far, I’ve only seen it work correctly (linking to the actual post) twice and that was weeks ago.
