Thanks for the replies! But I meant the Rare Event items, i.e. Nougat Centers, Chattering Skulls and the third one. Is it known which rare to use to create which Gift? Afaik the recipe is:
250 candy corn + 40 E. wine + 10 crystalline dust + 100 Rare Event item.
E.g., which rare item (x100) is used to create the Staff?

Ohh, yes here are the recipes: http://www.gaiscioch.com/tavern/guildwars_crafting/post_44282.html

Nougat=Staff
Skulls=Moon
Fangs=Spiders

And there are other recipes on that link as well (so for anyone who wants to “discover” crafting recipes on their own in the regular non-MF crafting pane don’t view the link).

It’s nice to know that I’m playing this game with a bunch of babies who cry when they cant get their way. Seriously. It is an item skin. Just a skin. Nothing changes when you get one of these items. Nothing. You don’t become all powerful or the lord of the universe. You have a weapon skin. It looks slightly different to other weapons. That’s it.

The only thing that adds any value to these skins is the fact that they’re hard to obtain. Those who truly want them will grind for them. You have a week to do so. That is more than enough to get one of these items.

These items aren’t gifts that are being given to you and nor should they be. They are prizes that are rewarded to those who fight for them.

If you want them. You will grind and grind until you claim what you desire. If you don’t want them or you’re too busy crying on the forums that “this game is tooo hard” then get out of the way.

That will be all.

Staffs are made by artificers. I think the Nougat Centers are artificer components, therefore the nougat centers create the gift of souls recipe which can be used by artificers.

What you get from the mystic forge is a recipe for the gift. You need a 400 artificer, huntsman, or weaponsmith to learn the recipe. Well, anybody can learn it, but you need 400 to then craft it.

Once you’ve created the gift from the recipe I believe it works like any other insignia.

This game is about skins wherever armor is concerned. When you can get the best possible stats in however many flavors you want before you even hit max level, It’s not about working hard to obtain upgrades like it is in many other games. It’s just about how they look. Sure, there are some people who don’t really care what their toons look like, but those aren’t the people posting here. And some of us have jobs and like to sleep.

People need to stop saying stuff like “get over it, life isn’t fair,” because this is NOT life. This is a game and it’s supposed to be fun. For many people, that these recipes take mats (like lodestones) required to make other highly desired items, is poor design. For many people, being required to spend 10g (at minimum) plus grind for or purchase all the other materials is not fun. For some people, tossing all these mats into the mystic forge for a recipe for which you’ll have to grind a bunch more mats is not fun.

Yes, the grind is optional. Stop stating the obvious. The question up for debate is this: Are the costs of these items too high, making holiday items more exclusive than they should be? I know as well as anyone else that this is not just any other game, and in most respects, I think Anet has done an amazing job, but I think holiday items should be easier to obtain – especially given the other things they’ve included for people to spend their time on (running around carving pumpkins and doing jumping puzzles for achievements, etc…) that need to be done within the span of this event. I’m having a hard time conceiving how It’s possible for a person who’s unwilling to drop real money on gems and has a full time job to complete all the achievements and grind for the gold and the items for the skins they want.

For me, I had to cross getting the weapon skins off my list because I place a higher priority on achievements and armor skins. I’ve never had to prioritize holiday event stuff in a game before (I’ve always been able to get everything I wanted, sometimes, even, for all my toons (like in Rift) ) and I can’t say I’m super pleased about having to do so here. Given that “endgame” is all about skins, it is a little gamebreaking for me. I don’t really care if you think that I should “grind and grind until I claim what I desire.” It’s a holiday! I already have too many things in this game to grind for and would have liked being thrown a bone – especially given this game’s supposed ungrindy nature (LOL).

Do the holiday skins really have to entail this kind of grind and gold commitment? I don’t think so. Dumping 1/3 of my gold on 1 skin for 1 toon is ridiculous by itself. Add in having to grind for (or buy) the other mats and it’s just too much for 1 skin.

Again, It’s not life. It’s a game. The more disappointed I am, the less likely I am to continue playing or to drop cash on expansions. And I am just one of many people saddened by the sheer amount of time and gold required to obtain the holiday items I want. Yea yea… I know GW2 doesn’t want to be just any other game. It wants to be MORE FUN than any other game. Item acquisition in this event definitely doesn’t raise the fun factor. This disappointment, however, might be balanced out by the amazing art direction, though, overall, just not for me.

“You want something in life. Learn to work for it.”

Work is something unpleasant you do in exchange for money. It’s not fun.

Fun is something you do because you enjoy it.

When you start calling your game ‘work’ you know you have totally failed. This isn’t supposed to be a more grindy world of warcraft.

If arena.net is going to start paying me a salary to grind up a legendary weapon I’ll be happy to ‘work’ for it.

Why do people complain that these items are hard to get? They are supposed to exclude the majority of people thats what makes them rare…

If everyone could get the item i dont think everyone would want it. People work hard to achieve something unique, you can’t expect ArenaNet to spoon feed you everything.

The problem is that, for a ranger for example, the only way to get a Halloween skin is to spend hundred of golds.

I don’t use swords (it’s useless more than 99% of the time), the only weapon I can get is the bow. Some classes can get one or more weapons for 30g each, but I have to spend 300g for mine. Why ? Why is my profession so discriminated in this case ?

I don’t mind about rare skins. I mind when there are no alternatives.

So basically you want to exclude 99.85% of the population?

The craftable weapons cost 200g+. Nobody is going to drop that much money for it.

I thought halloween was supposed to be fun?

Nobody wants to grind a couple months straight to get a halloween item from an event 2 months ago.

And for the guy who said “All you gotta do is grind for a week to get these skins, get over it”.

Lol what… please tell me how to make 200g in a week. Maybe possible if you literally grind 24/7 with magic find boosters always on.

The weapon skins should be attainable from simply doing halloween activities.

My issue is that Anet is catering only to the hardcores and tryhards. Having some items be rare and costing 100+ gold is alright, but when all the cool stuff is like that, what’s left for casuals?

The Halloween event should have been a fun holiday thing for everyone to enjoy, not another legendary grind.

What you have to bare in mind is that we haven’t made the crafted weapons yet. Therefore we don’t know what they look like. You may think they are permanent versions of the 4 hour weapons.
Lets think about the other weapons which require a similar cost of mats:
Destroyer weps, Foefire, Aether, Mist weaps…
All these weapons have epic animation effects.
Do you really think they are going to make us invest 200+g in order to get a perma version of an event skin?
I don’t think so.

Also I’d like to say; forge crafting weapons is for hardcore players. It provides a long term incentive for those who have everything else. I’m absolutely sick of casual players moaning that they cant get endgame skins easily. Skins are optional visual upgrades and they give you no advantage over other players. They just make you look like a bawws.
If you aren’t prepared to be forking out 200g for a limited edition exotic, then don’t go complaining on the forums. Simple.

Basically you make the two parts of the weapon like you’re making an exotic, then you add those, an orichalcum imbued inscription, and the gift to make the weapon.

I.E.

Gift of Spiders+Hardened String+Ancient Shortbow Stave+Inscription = Arachnaphobia

Gift of Souls+Ancient Staff Shaft+Ancient Staff Head+Inscription = The Crossing

Gift of the Moon+Orichalcum Shield Backing+ Orichalcum Shield Boss+Inscription = Whatever the moon shield is called.

Goal: To have one character of every race, gender, and armor class combination at level 80.

Don’t forget these items can be made after halloween is over. All you really need is the 250 candy corn and 100 of either nougat, p. fangs, c. skulls for the item you want. After that you can take as much time as you want to make the weapon.

You’re forgetting you also need 40 elonian wines which is about 12 gold. Not everyone has that to blow on JUST recipe, let alone the 300 gold in mats you need to actually make it.

Yea but you don’t need to gather those this week. As long as you gather the Halloween items this week, you can discover the Gift Recipe in the Mystic Forge at any time of year.

The recipe will be discoverable as long as it remains in the game. A’net can remove it anytime they wish. They could remove it at the end of the event.

Hey guys, since there’s been a lot of questions, here’s the deal with the weapon skins. Basically there are two types of weapons for this event:

  • Craftable – There are a number of weapons that can be crafted from materials that come from Halloween content. They are exotic and they have their own stats. You can craft these at any time of the year, but there are certain components that will only drop during Halloween. Since these weapons are really cool, we allow you to rent them from an in-game vendor in Lion’s Arch. They’re pretty cheap (you can buy them without paying gold) and yes, they expire in four hours. Basically, everyone will have a chance to get in the spirit of the season. To that effect, these weapons have auto-scaling stats but you can’t transmute them. For those of you who want to stay “festive” all year round, you’ll have to delve in the content and put the weapons together.
  • Purchasable Skins – These are available in the Black Lion Chests. They are a one-time use skin that you can apply to anything, I believe, and from there transmute that appearance to something else if you need to. You cannot rent these from that vendor in Lion’s Arch.

There’s also a bunch more gear, goodies, and crafting recipes to be discovered in the content itself!

Im surprised that we can’t craft permanent, low level, blue and green tier weapons(lvl 25 blue staff for example). The lvl 80 exotics have stats on them, equal to that of similar lvl weapons, which I thought was the main reason behind the high manufacturing cost.

I understand the need to keep us playing, or collecting during the length of the event, but this is just rediculous, your literally cutting off 95% of your player base from recieving any long term event related items(a big deal for any mmo fan). I think your approaching event items the wrong way, these items should be achievable BEFOR the event ends, through effort into halloween related events and by at least 70% of the population trying to ENJOY the holiday. I’m ok with working hard at special events to recieve rewards or even farm for that matter, but by no means should it drag on far past the length of the event. How do you propose we collect MANY rare items needed to craft gifts and weapons after the event is over, buy them from trading post? They will skyrocket in price, again cutting off many players, and will eventually deminish in time as they only dropped during holiday.

There is no other explanation for how they approached the rewards for this event, they want your real life cash, and lots of it. I’m ok with this, however, NOT ON HOLIDAYS.

Perhaps they’re introducing the hard-to-get items early on so that people who really want them have time to get them. Maybe the more casual items will come tomorrow or during another unlock.

So if I get this right,

If I’m just a lowly level 31 with not enough time to live in Tyria 24/7 the halloween event is not really of any interest to me?

Halloween isn’t entirely about having a bow that looks like a spider and nothing else. It’s about having fun. Do the quests, try out the haunted doors, play costume brawl, mine for candy corn, try out the new jump puzzles and dungeons (once they’re added in the next few days), join everyone in Lion’s Arch for the finale event with Mad King Thorn, and just have fun.

And still no word of ANET on this, we know you read this, why you don’t say anything back to us? It’s really annoying when this happens.

Why should they reply? I’ve seen nothing constructive in all 5 pages of this thread, it’s all just people whining about how they can’t have all the rare skins during the first of four parts of the festival without actually trying.

Read the Anet message, it’s clear when you read it that there are no other items.

They actually said that there will be more items. Did you really think that all items were made available in the first of a four part event?

One of the problems here is how the stats at ‘end game’ plateau so quickly. In other MMORPG’s, the end-game is to further your stats for character progression.

In GW2, the stats are so equal at the highest level that any new item with even slightly higher stats would be considered overpowered – due to this, until the new expansion pack comes out and ‘mudflation’ allows us more powerful items, the only way GW2 can dangle the carrot in front of us is to provide us with new skins.

However, it seems to me that they haven’t considered (or maybe they have) that any new skins on weapons would turn peoples attention away from the legendary skins as they switch their focus to something that could be more achievable. The only answer to this would be to make those unique skins almost as difficult to obtain as the legendaries themselves.

Afterall, who would put themselves through the effort of crafting a legendary bow when you could get a unique one much easier?

Needing to forge a recipe for a recipe component, then forging the recipe component, then forging the weapon itself.

Doesn’t this seem to be a bit ridiculous to anyone else? Can’t at least ONE of these things be rewarded directly through gameplay rather than having the entire process involve mat grinding and the mystic forge? I’m not saying every single skeleton should be dropping recipes, but come on.
