If i were to venture to guess I would say the patch is breaking there test server and they are panicking to get it straightened out for Live.

You also need to understand that the world doesn’t revolve around you and that they can’t be expected to cater to your every whim. This game doesn’t run on a sub you payed once and once only. They haven’t given a concrete time for anyone most likely because they aren’t sure what time everything will be ready. They most likely have to get a green light from each team that’s working on the different parts of this update before it can go live.
They said it’ll be out today last I checked today isn’t over yet, if it doesn’t come out today then you have every right to complain. I would rather have a bug free and complete update that may have come a little late rather than a rushed out update because so many people whined and complained that they weren’t meeting the release date they announced. You need to stop living in your dream world where you think everything in life is goes perfect and problems don’t ever come up.

Hey, I’m already at work and will be for another 6 hours. If the event were to be delayed by SEVEN hours so I can get home just in time for it to start, that would be fine by me! Just goes to show that one man’s frustrating delay is another man’s boon.

Even if they used GMT, most of the people you see here would still be complaining. As has been stated before, you can’t please everyone. They choose PST because this is where they are based, and this will almost always take advantage over any other timezone which, if chosen, would result in an equal amount of people upset.

Well, to be fair, when most people think of something being released on the day of 10/22, they don’t anticipate it being released 3 hours before the beginning of the next day…

i simply want them to give more specific time that they were going to release this patch, if they were not going to get it out until tomorrow then they should have stated that it would be out on the 23rd not the 22nd, I greatly anticipate this update and I am grateful for all the work the people at Anet are putting in, I only wish they would have a better idea as to when they will finish, give themselves a deadline and go by it, not just keep dangling the same basic message at us telling us it is coming this evening. The messages they send us sound like excuses, not answering the question on everyone’s mind. “When will they this update be patched?”

@ Ellendi.6742 Yes It kinda does, @ least with a fixed standard times such as GMT and UTC you know you don’t have the rubbish about daylight savings to calculate around. That is the joy of having fixed international times. Alas I guess something as complex as the notion of “International” would be hard pressed to be accepted by a nation who’s idea of a ‘world series’ is to play against themselves.

Of course it is. Everything from American military operations to timezones. All use +/- UTC. (GMT). I live on the West Coast, and to make PDT a standard is just odd. There is nothing West of us (except Alaska) until you hit Hawaii with New Zealand being the next major population. That’s all ocean. Even using Eastern time would make more sense as it is closer to being even with both the EU and West coast. Which probably contains more players than Alaska, Hawaii and New Zealand

I would think most MMO players would be used to PST as the standard norm. Most companies are located on the West Coast, so in turn they time everything off of that.

Normal update time is still 2 hours away. Why makes you think they will update any sooner than they do any other week?

Are people really this desperate for a event that will probably run for more than one day?

I think what everyone is getting confused about is the whole time & Date announcement. On the webpage it states the date but not the time. The includes an footnote on the bottom stating: All times and dates are shown in US Pacific Time (UTC-7:00).

Unless I am blind, it only states the date….there was never an offical time it would be out today, but the page seems to suggest it gave one. Can anyone clarify?

They never gave a time, just the date. Anet is based on the West Coast in Pacific Time. They said the patch would be live on the 22nd (still several hours left of the day). Europeans were told the 23rd (so many hours left its sickening that they’re crying.). All in all, Anet still hasn’t failed their promise.

I played Guild Wars for several years. Guild Wars 2 should first and foremost be a sequel to its predecessor. In the original Guild Wars when arenanet said an event would start they gave a very specific time. You could have made a countdown timer if you so chose. Guild Wars 2 on the other hand is showing to arenanets paying customers that their same attention to time is more than lacking. For instance, any typical Guild Wars event started at forgive me if I’m wrong but I think 6 a.m. Pacific Time so.. 8 a.m. or so in Texas where I live and I could count on that…EVERY time. I had planned on buying all of the gemstore halloween items, but now I don’t even know how many gems I will need and I wanted to be one of the first to be sporting one of these items. I have no clue when I will get to purchase them at all, unless you count before tomorrow. I believe “before tomorrow” is the most unsatisfactory timeframe I have ever heard of ever at all. Except perhaps “before I die.” So, arenanet I commend you on the quality of your game. I instead express immense displeasure with your communication and dedication to living up to the expectations of your dedicated gamers and we really deserve better than this next time.

Mainly because multiple teams are working on different parts of this update, if you read back on the post a few weeks back they stated that they had different teams handling different parts of the game’s content. So issues are bound to pop up that’s just part of the whole development process. If everything was working peach perfect you probably would have seen this update much earlier today.

I agree, people take everything for granted nowadays. ArenaNet could instead start charging a monthly subscription fee like nearly every other MMO out there.

ok, i have no problem with them releasing it whenever they want, its their software. i just feel that they were misleading in what they said regarding the release timewise. i was really looking forward, all day long, to being able to play it tonight. being that i have to get up for work at 6am est, i will not be able to do anything tonight. had they said that it was gonna be this late in the evening/ night, i would have been ok with that. they just need better communication is all.

Wow. I’m glad I got my cooking skill to 400 while waiting for the event to start. Now I have somewhere to hand out all these “Chill-Out” cookies I made. :p

Why is it that poor behavior from customers is OK, but problems in developing or rolling out a complicated addition to an online game – without killing the servers to do so – isn’t? They’re basically looking at this as an upgrade to an automobile – while it’s still running. You’re suggesting that a company just give in to the whines – and when the product they release is flawed, they eat it for that, too. Given that kind of customer mentality, it’s a wonder anyone even tries in the business in the first place. There’s a point when you make concessions, and a point when you fire the customer. Given the whinging by many in this thread and others, the game’d better off without ’em.

They had a video stream earlier today, explaining that the patch was still being worked on and would be released later tonight. They also said it was going to be a late evening patch on twitter about 14 hours ago.

Considering They advertised it as the 23rd to Europeans and it is still fairly early in the night for Pacific time. They still haven’t failed to deliver their promise, and won’t for several hours.

Wow there very first big event and we can not even cut them the tiniest of slack; especially considering how most MMOs make you wait months to years between any meaningful content updates.

Noon PST would be a far far more appropriate event release time. Allows ANet to cover PST, EST, and EU zones with decent a amount of evening play time.

This evening PST timeframe is the worst.

Imagine this: You turn 18, so you can get your drivers license. It doesn’t mean you will get it exactly on your birthday. It only means it can only be aquired AFTER your birthday, not before.

When Anet says the patch wont come out until midnight they were just saying that for GMT time, it wouldn’t be live on 22nd october, only after (23, 24, 25).

And yes, i was also thinking that the gamw would be updated at midnight, but words can be deceiving :p

Just wanted to say thank you for the update and I’m looking forward to it. As for those talking about the different time zones. I know of quite a few games that are ALL on PST. What’s the difference honestly? Someone in another zone will still have to do the math regarding times.
But, oh well, thank you again for such a great game. Everyone have a wonderful day/afternoon/night no matter what time you’re in

Everyone assumes we would have seen it already, but for the past several weeks, updates have been quite late in the evening, even bordering on rotating into the next morning. They very well might just be doing the same thing they have been doing for weeks. This assumption is much more reasonable to me than
