I got so tired of the tables being set up on the jumping platforms that I exited the Costume Brawl and planted my character in front of the table, so the griefer would only hit me and get nothing out of it. Then, when they moved to another platform, I moved with them until they left entirely.

The fear effect wouldn’t be as bad if it didn’t have the possibility of running you into the water, which resets everything.

Being feared into the water strips you of your costume only, all your Costume Brawl stats remain.

Why? What were they doing that was so wrong? If they want to setup in a place that’s difficult to attack and easy to defend, that’s strategy even in something as simple as costume brawl. What you did was grief the mechanics though. Knowing that you can nullify one of their 4 moves with no way for them to retaliate is the very definition of griefing. If you don’t want to play costume brawl, then don’t play and move on with your game, but don’t ruin the fun others are having.

These griefers should grow up and just do like I do:

I have less than zero interest in holiday events. It’s not what I signed up for, and feels more like an intrusion of our world with all its bs into Tyria than anything else.

So I just avoid LA like the plague until it’s over. Can’t see why these masochists want to stand around LA pissing people off.

@Fikfain

“…nullify one of their 4 moves with no way for them to retaliate is the very definition of griefing.”

That is exactly what people are doing though. They go to a place that requires jumping to get, or better yet stand on the Cauldron and set up their table so that the pumpkins will drop down on players. There is no way to retaliate as the only way to reach them without dying is to leave costume (which causes you to lose points) and go to where they are and fear them (assuming you have the costume). That is what is wrong, you answered it yourself.

sometimes it will look exactly the same:

people playing strategic to the fullest (where is my I-win button?)

and people griefing (how can I bother others without being stopped)

It’s a mentality thing in the end.
I think most can be recognised in any given concrete case.

Jumping?? In THIS game?? Dear lord! I bet you don’t like trebs on vistas too. Welcome to Guild Wars 2.

There are plenty of ways to retaliate. Try using the pirate cannon for starters. Knocks them into the cauldron and causes them to have to reset their costume to boot. Witches can block for 2 straight minutes and their melt move is serious damage. Ghosts, too. They are vulnerable from behind, so go to the other side of the cauldron and just lob shots at them. It’s not like they’re going to speed around that razor’s edge to stop you. Again, just because the position is difficult doesn’t make it impossible and doesn’t qualify it as griefing…however, you wouldn’t want permanent invulnerability in WvWvW while simultaneously blunting a fourth of someone’s offensive capability but that’s what you argue for here.

Let’s make one thing clear first, I don’t set up shop on top of the cauldron

I just recently bought the mad king outfit, but got to roughly 300 champion in the brawl only using cauldron transformations, now I’m not entirely sure why people are complaining they are blocking progress when they set up a table at the top of the cauldron or fear up there since you have to be flagged as a brawler to have any of that affect you.

Now I do know that if you lose your transform you still retain your progress you’ve made from landing hits so getting feared into the water is a moot point, on the flip side, while in normal form while retaining your points you can be feared/hit which could be troublesome but the way around that is to, work your way back up to the big cauldron or find a small cauldron put down by someone with a witch costume. If that isn’t possible, use a tonic, relog or leave the area.

This isn’t really something that is at the fault of the players sitting on top of the large cauldron as much as it is something ArenaNet should have thought of by allowing a player to leave the brawl while not transformed. There are plenty of ways to get around this problem and banning players because you feel everything should be handed out or made so easy to get to is not a very good excuse. If I can get to 300 on the achievement without purchasing anything and having to go through everything that you have, fears or pumpkins thrown from tables (which don’t knock back or fear) you can too.

Edit As for losing points when you leave the brawl so you can get back to the cauldron, the points aren’t that hard to get again, making this excuse another moot point.

The mad king outfit is OP’d. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been feared into the water, mostly by a player who is standing still and spamming fear. Might even have been AFK using a macro since I never saw him move. (I guess I should have reported)

The witch outfit, I have seems ok or even weak against certain types. The mummies and skelies seem strong, so is the Mad king. The ones you get from the Witches cauldron tend to be weak (or at least slow which can be difficult to play) the exception is the hawk which is pretty strong..
