Q:

I know this won’t be a popular suggestion, but there’s already enough people farming champs at the back at Claw of Jormag not contributing to destroying the shield/pillars right now despite the crap loot. After the update with the champ loot, everyone and their grandmother will be farming the champ wolves/goliaths and no one will be focused on actually doing the event.

And? If they stoped nerfing every freaking place in this game, people won’t be doing this.

Well I’m assuming that since they nerf every farmable thing in this game, they’ll do something for Jormag as well, but I was just hoping someone would come outright and say that yes they would change this champ business.

After all if they’ll nerf the giant farm because (a) it’s a farm and (b) it slows down access to Arah, then why shouldn’t they nerf the champs at Jormag because (a) it’s going to be a farm and (b) it’s going to slow down the completion of the event.

Be glad you weren’t around for the original Jormag fight, where every single add (including the baby elementals) dropped loot and Jormag would be up for 3-4 hours (sometimes longer) with people just farming him in stage 1.

Jormag’s literally the only World Boss fight in the game that even has this potential to last longer than 5 minutes. They should leave it the way it is. … Mainly b/c killing those Champs, just makes the world Boss die faster from the Golems getting through.

IOW: it’s already self-regulating. It’s NOT like the Champion Giant on Promenade was.

Infact they should design MORE world boss fights this way. Esp SB, Shatterer & Sunless.

Well, this month’s Monthly includes veteran slayer, so many people are killing the vet spawns at Claw of Jormag because it counts toward the Monthly. Toward the end of the month, I’ll bet you see fewer people going after the vets and champs. That is, until the champs start dropping unique loot. Then the vets will be ignored and everyone will forget about the wall until the champs go down in phase 1.

ilr.9675 has a point about phase 2 of CoJ; getting the golems saftley through to the boss helps the battle.

Killing the champions has virtually no effect on the golems. They run into ice spikes and die FAR more often than a champion even looks at them.

It would be nice if people would score 10k or so damage on the champions and then get back to ice spike duty. You still get credit when Jormag’s Claw gets stunned and they die. You don’t need to beat on them for 5 minutes; it’s a total waste of time since they usually die from the Claw getting stunned before they die from HP loss.

He’s going to take forever if there’s incentive to kill the Champions and no one is on spike duty. Plan accordingly.

You also can’t ignore that unlike the first half of the Claw of Jormag fight, the second half is very poorly explained. The barrels labeled “Charrzookas” begin dispensing flamethrowers, it’s not clear that anything happens when the golems get to the dragon, and it’s not clear when he’s stunned and safe to approach (yes, his posture changes, but it’s easy to miss).

Basically, the player is put into a situation where they cannot attack the dragon directly (no charrzooka, unless they kept one from the previous stage), have no clear way to directly influence the removal of that limitation, and have NPCs shouting at them to “watch the cliffs” where all the enemies spawn. They’re also told to “protect the golems,” but firstly, it’s not immediately clear that the ice pillars pose a threat to them, and second, standing around trying to destroy pillars before someone else is not exactly a riveting experience, nor does it make them feel particularly helpful when there are only so many to go after.

So yes, most players will resort to attacking the mobs. They’re a clear, actionable threat they’re being told to attack, and it’s not made clear when they should stop and attack the claw.

They better not. Wasting 30 to 45 minutes for 4 greens, a t5 gem and 1 rare is not worth the time IMHO. The Jormag event needs more incentive to participate through the whole event. As it is now people zone in 5 minutes before it dies just to collect the crappy loot drops and leave right after.

I agree with all of this; the first time I did Claw of Jormag, it was very confusing. But it helps to pay attention. Of course, the “watch the ledges!” thing is overstated way too much… I will say, though, that you CAN tell when Jormag is stunned. The NPC in charge will often say he’s been stunned ( “The wall’s down!” “The wall? You’re behind on phases, NPC”) and barring that, the event text will tell you that Jormag has been stunned.

People don’t really seem to notice this often, though. You usually see a lot of people going down at the start of the 2nd phase or after the stun phase is over (they don’t rertreat early enough because they think it’s still stunned).

But back to the topic… Not sure. Like someone else said, the champs often die from the CLaw getting stunned anyway. They’re just annoying powerhouses getting in the way. Not sure if changing them into Vets would help…since then they would drop faster.

Will Ranger forever.

Jormag is actually a pretty alright boss. Just keep an eye on the event window and it’ll tell you EXACTLY when he’s stunned or not. (and the thing about charrzooka barrels dispensing flame throwers is BS, there are 2 types of barrels, one for charrzookas, and one for flamethrowers)

Also, killing ice spikes doesn’t even help half the time, because they leave behind an AOE field that kills the golems just as quickly as the spikes did.

Assuming you can even see the spikes or the golems or anything else with the rampant culling, for that matter.

Not only that, sometimes the Claw of Jormag seems way too happy to just spawn those freaking pillars right in front of the golems, leaving no time at all to destroy them.

Fighting the champs in the 1st stage can often be necessary because of all the idiots who run right past and lead them to those trying to destroy the wall.

In the second stage it’s just less dull than spending all your time in the group kitten huddle at the front. Generally I grab a flame thrower and deal with the champs, pillars and anything else that wanders in.

ANet should only act if the new champ loot turns it into an abusive farm, where players are being told off for attacking CoJ, or some nonsense like that. Right now, it’s hard to see killing a couple of champs during an event as a farm at all.

edit: wow “kitten ring” for a word beginning with b and meaning dull? Awesome job swear filter!

At least there isn’t verbal abuse being tossed out left and right by for either preventing completion or completing it unlike Champ Giant in Arah gate chain. Most people I see for phase 2 just tag the champs and then focus on spikes. Phase 1, if you want it to go faster, convince others to go run and plant the bombs instead of spamming 1 on the charzooka. Wall goes down in no time with a bunch of bomb runners doing the event.

If the champs start dropping interesting loot, you can bet people will stop killing the Claw to farm the champs. This is what we’re discussing here.

Not contributing?

Those people attacking the champs and the waves of of vets down bellow are stopping them from crushing the people running bombs, and stopping the vets from running up and attacking all the people pewpewing with their charzookas. (yes, if you leave the mobs down there be, they will run up and atttack you)

“there’s already enough people farming champs at the back” – the OP thinks farming is already taking place. It just isn’t, so the beginning of the discussion is flawed.

Frankly, I’ve no idea if this event can be abused – do champs keep spawning infinitely, or is there a limit per cycle? Do the champs spawn frequently enough, that standing there and farming them would be more desirable, than completing and moving on to other events?

I hope not and that any silly behavior will fix itself (i.e. the volume of players wanting to wait for another couple of champs will be massively outweighed by those wishing to finish and move on), but if the event is abused then I certainly would hope ANet fix it as promptly as they did Arah.
