And what’s the limit on how many toons per account a player can run? you realize some people have 8? You realize people can delete/create character to re run it which is actually what someone in my guild did after already running it with all his already existing characters….I ran it with about 4-5 of my characters everyday and got a total of 4 exotics each worth 2-5 gold…total; made no more than 20 gold over the course of 4 days.

Now I have nothing against it, I was ok with it for an event like halloween where it was an increased chance to get a random exotic from the chests…

For this one, it is guaranteed to get 2 extremely useful exotics PLUS a very high chance to get some of the most expensive items in the game PLUS a chance to get a few random rares/exotics. The reward was too big to allow people to run it multiple times on the same account, when some people ran it once or struggled to finally run it once before it ended. The total some people made in this event is 500g+…hell just running it once with one character and not getting any fancy drops is a guaranteed 20g.

Also what about 1 player with 2 accounts? What about 2 players in a family who share an account? What about 2 players in the same household who have different accounts but the same IP?

How would you enforce each instance?

And if what your saying is true then why would they make the chest lootable only once per character, unlimited times per account (we know from the last event they have the ability to make a chest lootable only once per account), and add the unique but account bound stats to the items?

And finally, why leave the event running all afternoon and evening (as i said people were just starting it at 11:30 est when i logged off last night).

However you want to interpret what they SAID, actions speak louder than words and everything they did points to an intent to have people run the event multiple times through the course of the afternoon and evening on multiple level 80 characters to get them their unique rewards.

What I agree was NOT intended was having such a high drop chance of precursors.

THAT is where they need to fess up, admit the drop chance was a big mistake and that a decimal point got misplaced somewhere in their code.

I know a few people who did get 2 from the one and only time they looted the chest (1 of them was in the same run I was), but one of them always seemed to be “Legend” the staff precursor. That weapon seemed the most common drop (at least the most common that was linked for me).

Yes and no.

The chest seemed to always reward the 20-slot box, as well as the all-stat-earring.

Then you got, from what I can tell:
1 random rare or exotic (scaled to level)
1 random exotic (scaled to level)
1 “named” level 80 exotic (this was NOT scaled to level)

I personally got a junky named level 80 exotic I sold for a gold. Others got a named level 80 exotic that was a precursor.

If somebody ran it twice, they only got the chest once… There is no exploit if the person decided to run it twice for simply enjoying the event. Actually, I commend the people who ran it twice; enjoying the game!? BLASPHEMY. Gimme a break.

You could get the chest as many times as you had alts and could find an overflow still doing it.

Seriously there are more important game mechanics to be worked on. I wish everyone would quit being so greedy. I wish all this effort was put into improving the game.

I only got exotic loot once, I am fine with it. I don’t care if a bunch of people got gold and precursors. It was nice loot, they got one for each character I don’t care.

How does this really hurt you in the game?

I would rather they work on balance and content. Making he game more fun.

To me, whether it is an exploit depends entirely on how lax the standards were for being able to open the chest (i.e. how much of the event did you have to do to get it). If you could jump in at the end and still get the reward? Exploit. If you had to participate in a large chunk of the event to get credit? Totally legitimate.

But this still does not count out the fact that dev said 1 time only.

The difference between the two is that the Karka event was account bound. Each character could only do the chest once allowing each player to bring their alts scaled to 80 to redo the event in active overflows. The event started at noon PST and ended at midnight pst. The duration in between demolition squad and final phase was 1-3 hours. There was no exploitation done.

The vendor exploit was indeed an exploit because players on the same character bought a vast amount (100x++) of items and tried to get away with it.

What was the exploit? If you ran the event twice with the same character, you only got to pop the chest once. The second time, it was already open and non-interactable.

You could do it multiple times on different toons, you couldn’t loot the chest a 2nd time on the same character BUT you could quickly make a new one and do it again to loot it again.

Basically if you wanted multiple 20 slot bags/exotic loot etc you could simply create a level 1 toons really quick, get an invite to an active event and loot the chest – then afterwards do it again, and again etc.

Multiple toons would seem fine to me but if deleting making multiple lvl 1s and repeating that does seem liek an exploit to me. Though I don’t see how it could have been abused too much since it was extremely difficult to even get into the zone during event with so many participating.

Exactly, the Karka items were account bound. If it was meant to be once per character, they would have been soul bound. They had to keep the event going because of the massive lag and DC issues. If everything ran smoothly, the event would have run once on each of the main + overflow servers, ending at approximately the same time. However, it didn’t and they didn’t lock down the chest. The fact that most had to resort to tricks like hopping overflow servers should tell you that it wasn’t intended.

The vendor exploit was indeed an exploit because players on the same character bought a vast amount (100x++) of items and tried to get away with it.

There were people that got perma-banned for buying as little as 10 of the items from the bugged vendor.

From your vehement defense of the practice I’m sure that you looted the chest with all of your characters, and I’m guessing got some precursors. So just enjoy it, and let the people who feel like they got gipped express their frustration.

Running multiple characters through an event is definately NOT an exploit. Yeah if they hadn’t it may have been easier for others to participate but that isn’t the players fault. If it had let me in I’d have ran all my alts too. Though I wouldn’t have done a create/delete to loot more as that does seem an exploit.
The fault with all the problems I see lies with A-net, they had a one time event with servers that couldn’t handle the participation level and then had free access on top of it which seriously increased the server load.
The only “fair” method of dealing with it I see would be to set up a method of every character that was previously in existence on a paid account prior to start of event to be able to recieve the same reward equivalent. Of course this will make big waves in the economy but I don’t see it being any more detrimental than the 2+ months of massive groups of bots that was neglected.

It wouldn’t be an issue if people with alts partisipated in the event on their alts, but what happend was members found a person that was in an event active overflow, they then ran all of their alts to the spot where the chest spawns at the end of the event in an already event completed overflow.

Once the boss was killed and the chest was spawned, as the overflow servers capacity opend up, people were spam clicking join party on the person that was at the chest and they were then able to loot the chest with out ever hitting a mob before it despawned.

This is pretty unfair to people that couldn’t even get to an active event once, not from the lack of trying, but because of server dc’s, capacity issue, an login issues. It seems as if anybody that was loged in over the period of the event are eligable for loot as the requirements were not to partisipate in the phase but merley click on the chest.

As unlikely as it sounds, I know of over half a dozen precursors that were obtained this way. Not very impressed at all about this after spending 2 hours unsuccessfully trying to get in to the event.

Personally, i resented the bots less then Lost Shores. This is a perfectly good reason why.

These are only some of the problems with this event. Sadly, “I couldn’t make it to the event and now I’m butthurt because people got the reward more than once” just doesn’t cut it as a valid complaint.

Still I would say ban those who did not participated in the event and exploited the chest by switching between chars to get the loot.

*This is the correct reason! Anet need to reply on this.

You could only loot it once on any single character, not an exploit.

If it were continually running, as you say it should, then people who DC’d at the end, should have been able to get back into an overflow with the event running, without having to manipluate the game engine to artificially extend the duration of the event. Yes, I believe the people to discover this were trying to help out those who DC’d at the last minute, or were from different timezones/had other commitments at the original time, and the person who brought it to my attention used the same character every time so as not to be greedy and exploit to get more loot, but no doubt people used that method to do just that. Repeating an event to get good loot on an alt? Not generally an exploit. Manipulating the game engine to gain access to that event in the first place? Sounds more like an exploit to me, but I’ll let ANet decide, and what to do about it.

Too true, My raptr page report says I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 for over 800 hours, in that time I’ve levelled 4 80s and geared them out, attained master crafter title and two world 100%s, however in terms of gold, I have yet to break the 50g barrier.

Reasons, #1 I hate playing markets in order to earn gold. This is an MMO, not a spreadsheet financial simulator. #2 RNG and #3 RNG hates me and finally #4 I’m not lucky.

And as the OP mentioned, exploiting the overflow server to repeat the events is and should be a bannable offense. There was even a few posts (which got deleted) about how to even do it yesterday.

Because the event repeated on an “active” overflow server, the main factor that the event phase 3 was supposed to run from NOON PST through MIDNIGHT PST should have taught you that by further reading staff stating the event would scale players only “once” during the weekend to level 80, would allow all player’s characters to participate.

Therefore after finishing one server, having party hop off to other active servers, and redoing the event chain with another character was indeed not an exploit.

Honestly, the only reason everyone is complaining about killing the population for using common sense after completing the event once in 1-3 hour duration is because for some, precursors dropped. That is all. Which in my opinion is the most selfish disgusting reason to even attack the community.

So please, it is a request from a fellow community member: Stop this garbage, be patient and let’s see what new content anet has in store for EVERYONE in the game! Geez

The update patch was timed at a bad moment and I agree it took the event down at your least convenience, but that is not player’s fault and you shouldn’t be attacking your own community this way.

No it is not because you are defining the event as an exploit when it clearly wasn’t. An exploit my friend would be someone doing the same event on the same character but since the chests were character-bounded, the community instead made new characters which were scaled to level 80 to enter the island last weekend and completed it multiple times using the same method.

In repetitive conclusion: the community did not exploit the event.

The event was given a set time and a set date, and now that it is expired people should move on just as they would have from Halloween.

Now that we have the new content (i.e fractals/island) we should all be coming together to build new event ideas (or even repeated mini ones) instead of QQ’ing about not being able to drop a precursor weapon, while knowing full well that anet already confirmed a reddit rumor about doing some precursor scavenger hunt.
