In the wake of the event, I agree that there are legitimate complaints that should probably be addressed. They have been mentioned a thousand times overs and don’t need to be reiterated. There are also these people who say “I tried phase I and it was confusing and bugged so I ignored the rest of the event,” or “I did phase I & II but phase III was laggy and not fun so I just left.” Then they follow up with “Let me see if I’m understanding this: I GET NOTHING?!”

Uh…yes.

Here’s what happened to my wife and I during the event, and I think it’s likely that many, many other players who ended up looting the chest at the end of phase III also went through something similar:

We hated pretty much everything about the content in all three phases.
Uninteresting, laggy, zergfest.
The bugged parts made it difficult to know what we were expected to complete in order to move onto the next phase when it was introduced. But we asked questions in game and came on the forum and figured it out. We read the side tracker updates and mail alerts, and did what they said to do. We contributed to our overflows during the the unfun phase III monotony for 2.5 hours despite the overwhelming urge to pluck out each other’s eyeballs and die in a hole. We did all this because for 3 weeks prior to the event, ANet made it very clear that there would be nice rewards for those who participated, particularly in phase III. We didn’t know if they’d be worth it, but we didn’t want to take the chance of being left out, so we persevered. Neither of us got a precursor, but we were both happy to get a couple random exotics and a couple rares in addition to the 20 slot bag and accessory.

I came on the forums to see how everyone else’s experience had gone, and I think some people really got the short end of the stick, through no fault of their own (e.g. DC during phase III or being excluded because of time zone incompatibility with the extremely narrow window of the event). I hope ANet acknowledges you guys in someway, or at the very least prevents these kinds of problems in the future.

But you guys who literally gave up and then said “Oh, kitten! That’s not fair!” when you saw what those who stuck with it got for their misery, you seriously need to let go of the entitled attitude and learn to think objectively.

Please take your tinfoil hats off and be reasonable. ~ReginaB

I generally agree with this. I was unable to attend most of it. I’m not complaining. Well… maybe a little.

I’m not pleased that I missed out on some “genuinely good stuff” and if I had any inkling that even something as good as that 20-slot bag was going to be given, I might have worked harder to get there.

I mistakenly assumed that the event was primarily content-only and while I would be sorry to miss it, real life did take precedence.

However, if I had been able to make it and was experiencing all the various issues…. I would have stuck it out regardless of what I expected (or actually didn’t expect) to be the final payoff.

Honestly… I think I preferred it when all I was really participating for was a festival hat and goodie bags.

First to die!

If I beat you, you might want to consider changing games.

Source please.

In the end, this is what really matters.
