Super Bad for Australia NZ, OneTime Event
It looks like we have to try and find an overflow server that the event is running on, gambling that it won’t already be full and hoping we can get on it.
Still bad form.
Don’t forget about Asia too, this “global” event wasn’t so global but more reserved for certain places evidently…
Australia would have had the event start at 7am(?), it was 4am for SEA’s… so yeah, we have it worse than you guys.
Sea of Sorrows
As an Australian. I didn’t think the 7am start was unreasonable. Especially given that Anet wanted to make it a special one time only event and that realistically the largest player-base is America. It’d be nice if it were yesterday though so it was still on the weekend for everyone.
6am for me here in Queensland, so I was able to make the event, finish it, get my reward and still head to work afterwards. I agree that this situation is unacceptable going forward though, especially if future finale events offer such a MASSIVE reward.
My suggestion to ANet (also posted in the feedback thread) is as follows:
Restructure these events so that they take place over a number of weeks (e.g. Phase 1 events take 1 week, Phase 2 events take one week), and set finale events so they happen on Saturday (US time) so that people from the Eastern Hemisphere can have more opportunity to make these events. Furthermore, make these events more akin to “mission” instances. You form a party, the party leader talks to an NPC and your party (along with up to 3 other parties for a total of 20 players) are sent into an instance to battle the “Big Bad Enemy”. Afterwards, the party is sent back to the main area where they can collect their reward from an NPC (only once per character/account, as appropriate). In this way, a finale event can be available over an entire day, lag and culling won’t be such a huge issue, and you still get to retain that sense of a “one-time event that changes the face of Tyria” (the player was there, they completed the mission, and now know what happened to make Southsun Cove the way it is).
I’m in Australia, had to depart for work soon after the event started. I accept you are never going to find a time to suit everyone when you have a global player-base, but agree with Murkblood that making the event fall on the weekend across all time zones would have been preferable.
