We had some fun slapping yaks at north camp in SoR last night. It was a nice change of pace to relax and just screw around for a bit. Nice try SoR, but your yaks are doomed!

[Edit] Does anyone else ever not pay attention to their music while playing and realize that it annoys you after watching the video? lol

I’m not making fun or belittling, I’m just a bit surprised is all. I’m not specced for 1v1. I do a lot of roaming, but I’m not specced particularly for it.

Ability to 1v1 is not only gear/spec dependent itself, but the class involved can make it vastly more do. For instance, if I catch a staff ele out in the open when I have my roaming gear on….. free points. They can’t run and they cant hurt me… and there is nothing they can do about it no matter how good of a player they are. (well unless they get help or have somewhere real close to run)

Yes absolutely. I find more success on my memser, but I do believe it’s because I play it far more and subsequently have learned all the nuances, y’know? For months I was frustrated by thieves because it felt like the only class I could not counter. But I kept going and actively looking for them, and gradually improved. Improvement via 1,000 papercuts kind of deal, lol. I see that translating into zerg play for me too. And I only have one set of gear. Hrm, lol, maybe I should invest in another set eh?

I don’t know how it is these days, since I don’t play enough (like 2hrs a week max), but when I played all day every day… staff ele usually meant the tankiest guy on the map. There was a staff ele in my guild (Papaj) who was quite literally unkillable in a 1v1. There was no amount of cooldowns a single person could pop that could kill him. When we were on SoS he got nicknamed “The Immortal” or something cheesy like that. He didn’t kill very many people, but he sure did kite around everyone who thought he was an easy kill, while throwing out heals at the same time for the rest of us.

The only time I ever remember him being instadowned was when the old BG→JQ guild “Hands Off My Octopus” used to run around with like 5 glass cannon warriors and would focus him.

lol this is the thing that’s annoying the heck out of me today … I was in a 4v1 fight at ruins and took out the two thieves, was working on third thief and guardian, then 25 man zerg rolled over me. Was a good fight, finally found it .. and meh.

Feels like NA gameplay is “throw more bodies at it” rather than improve skill. I don’t mean this as an insult, I’m just saying if it’s the 2 silver armour repair bill, I’ll email it to you. I just want to improve, I’m a mediocre player at best … and getting rolled over by 25 after having fun with four is not challenging.

A good roamer doesn’t put them self in a position to be zerged down by 25 ppl, always keep an eye on your surroundings^^. sPvP is the same, you see 4 ppl coming at you on a point, you can either dash off to another point, or bunker up and keep them from caping it as long as possible. Knowing when to fight and when to run is probly the best skill for anyone in WvW, roamer or zergling (actually, knowing how to have fun, and how to fight somewhere in there, are also bes^^ww)

I think everyone gets steamrolled at some point in WvW, even in zergys. I did have some fun duels with a SoR Engie between EB an VK in ebg. We fought to the death about 3 times and on the fourth time partied and moved to harpies do duel some more to down jus for the practice. Anet could solve the point differential made by overwhelming SEA numbers is to just turn of the PPT during the overnight hours. Or at least the overnight hours native to that area. Basically when people should generally be sleeping, the points don’t tick..

Would that make people happy? How might the results look then?

The intent of you post seems honest so I think it deserves an honest response.

The fact is, this game is available to be purchased and played by just about anyone in the world, and because of this, Anet cannot lock out content to the prime play times of one specific region. When a player in North America is usually sleeping, a player in Australia just got home from work, ate dinner, and is ready for some WvW. Not to mention there are people who may work a grave shift, and play during work/school hours for many.

I don’t mean the content is being locked out, it means everything remains the same. Players can do whatever they want, cap everything, siege everything all to high kitten. Fight small groups, zergs, get loot bags, karma, gold, etc.. The only difference, that ticker on the top of the screen reads “0”. That’s the only change.

I would presume, or at least I’d hope those who are in T1 (and who transferred here) are here for the fights, not the PPT. If they’re here for the PPT, they are probably in the wrong Tier. Many other tiers that can be transferred to, to rack up the PPT if they so choose. From what I understand, the general consensus was those who are here, are here for the fights because there are lots of them. If this is the case, then most should not be against shutting down the tick during off hours.

The idea has been kicked around 2-3 weeks ago and did have overwhelming support. Perhaps in the past it didn’t, but now (from what I’ve seen), it does.

Personally, I could care less either way. I don’t measure success or fun by how fast our zerg can run back to a base to defend it, or how our numbers overwhelm the opposition or vice versa during off hours. I measure it by even numbers attack and defending while I’m in the fray lol.

Sea players had no place to go when the game launched but EU players did but you just want to lock out sea for some reason. Also in Na people work around the clock on different shifts so why should their playtime be less valuable than others.

There really isnt nothing anet can do with how screwed up wvw is right now so i wish they would just put in 20v20 battlegrounds already and i would never step foot in wvw again.

Their play time wouldn’t be less valuable than others. I’d say capturing whatever you can, upgrading it, and filling it full of siege for the next group is a lot more valuable than you think.

Before the prime timers log, they try and leave the SEA crowd something to work with, so they can concentrate on offense. Vice versa, the SEA crowd should be leaving as much as they can for the next group to come on.

The PPT is basically a by-product of whats going on and doesn’t need to be ticking during the off hours. It’s not a measure of skill nor a reflection of a servers capability to have large amounts of people playing from different time zones.

People need to ask themselves these 2 things:

1) If Anet does decide to shut off PPT during the off hours, what are the SEA people going to do who have the capability to play during a time slot where it ticks? Do they swap severs? Could this be a possible answer to server population mismatches? For Anet, the quickest and easiest solution to many blowout matches is to just turn off the PPT during off hours.

2) How exactly would T1 look if the PPT was shut off during off hours? On reset night, it was pretty much dead even up until people started logging off. It was close, it was fun (minus the skill lag of course). I can’t speak for others, but I think people have more fun in close matches than they do during the extreme blow out matches that we see.

There is lots of chest thumping going on in this thread (which is fine), but there isn’t much to chest thump about unless your talking about even numbers at all times. This is especially true in cases where those who are outnumbered, still continue to beat the larger zergs.

As someone who plays during off-hours, this would make me quit WvW alltogether. You may say it our time is not less valuable in that scenario, but it is. We would only contribute to the strength of towers/keeps, not to point-gain. People playing during prime-time get to contribute to both. Meaning, one is more valuable than the other.

Getting punished just because I live in a different timezone is not something I see as a good idea.

1) If Anet does decide to shut off PPT during the off hours…

Why on earth would they even think about doing this?

This is as ridiculous as making dungeons drop loot only during 9am to 5pm EST.

The PPT is just a measure of the current points earnings based on the number of assets held. Shutting off the points calculations for a period would not change the fact that certain assets are held by X but it would screw up the whole point system and ranking.

I don’t really know why there’s even a discussion about “off-hours.” To me, NA and EU prime are “off-hours.” Shall we turn those time zones off as well? It would definitely be beneficial for me, since those are Blackgate’s lower points income hours.

We just have to accept the fact that the game is meant to be played at all hours, regardless of the number of people who are on. The best solution is to not even bother with the score altogether and just enjoy your primetime any way you can. No one really gets anything for winning anyway, which is why I don’t understand half the rage about who is winning what and when. If people were really playing for the fights, we’d be talking more about the fights, not about who’s ahead and why.

1) If Anet does decide to shut off PPT during the off hours…

And whose off hours are we talking about? NA, EU, Sea, Asia????

And even if you say NA, which timezone, East or West?!

Or are you implying people should only play during the time you play, even though it may be 6am, 12pm, 6pm or 12am, depending on where on the planet they live?!

And I dont see how people complain so much, BG complained about us coming to SoR, that they dont have enough players on during EU primetime; well that simply isnt true we’ve ran into your zergs every night almost, we’ve even been outnumbered 3-1…

It’s obvious Anet is somewhat conscious about time zones and they have already stated after the Asia servers are up, they are going to implement ppt adjustments when certain servers have a presence against those that don’t.

At the end of the day, they are going to minimize ppt impact to the game because they realize they made a mistake with it. Everyone should just start having fun with the fights because that is all that is going to matter within a couple of months.

Interestingly enough, I just woke from a dream in which I told a guildie, “BG roamers are everywhere…” Also, Pox, I’ve found it is possible to take out a yak or sentry, but try to solo a camp, and anywhere from 2-6 BG will show up, it seems.

In a typical evening I take out the yaks, sentries, and camps of both opposing servers on my own. You just gotta know which camps are more likely to draw enemies.

Cant say seen such comment anywhere ..source please or is just opinion.

And if no care ppt as say…..why get in such a twist over night time .

Seems disingenous…..

Want fights go PvP make arena …want solo or casual meet go PvE want other go WvW .

Why do people keep trying to change into what they want under the guise of saving game.whats needed .speaking for the majority etc etc .

Despite screams to contrary the queues indicate wvw and anet event are generally working succesfully….unlike pvp so wheres anets pressure to make more small group fights .

and yes my english is bad .

“Best” NA guild; Outnumbers Enemy; Runs 3 times; Calls for second guild group; Still siege creeps against 25 of us I mean that was what 65 or 70 of you and 6 AC’s against 25 of us with no siege and the spam laugh afterwards? <3 U guys

Ouch, TC will be sore tomorrow from BGBL. Some of the worst command decisions I’ve ever seen in any game. Why would you push TW and Fear when its common knowledge that they will push BG almost 90% of the time. Oh well, seems you guys lost your entire footing in that BL. Maybe you guys will find better luck in T2

Nope, TC is pretty smart because it’s the same tactics we (BG) use against SoR and has worked well. It’s one of the reasons why we’ve been winning against you lately.

The only difference between TC using this strategy and us is the experience. We’ve done it so many times, it’s 2nd nature for us. TC don’t have as much experience against SoR yet they’ve already picked up what works in less than a week. At this pace, if they keep fighting SoR, they’ll replace SoR at T1.

Cookies and Mudpies coming your way TC. Courtesy of Blackgate.

BTW TC. Here’s a little extra tactic to get them off you guys at Bay in SoRBL. Keep attacking their garrison from the west. Nothing drives SoR away from your camps easier than attacking their garrison regularly. It really gets their attention fast.

i guess its a good tactic if ur aiming for second. BG focuses SOR because we r second, and they need to focus us to stay in first.

O and ur tactic thats working is ur sea outnumbering r sea ticking for 400-500 ppt. I AM NOT SAYING its a bad thing, infact i respect ur sea they r crazy strong, Just saying that is where alot of ur points come from, and why u been winning against us lately.

BINGO!!! Dude, you hit it right on the dot.

It always gonna be a battle between BG and SoR. The random server will least likely take 1st for the week with both servers in the matchup. So push for 2nd.

It’s 10 times easier to take 2nd in this matchup than trying to chase 1st. And it’s 20 times easier to take 2nd from SoR than against BG. Because in the past, we’ve had to learn to fight against both SoR and JQ and hardly ever end up 3rd. Now that we’re even stronger (well, actually smarter), any random server will have a easy chance at 2nd against SoR. We’re the ones really fighting SoR. If TC stays focus on SoR, they’ll take 2nd.

The week is a little late now since there’s only 2 days left but had it happened this way since reset, they woulda gotten 2nd. But TC can still fight for their ratings. Even if they end up 3rd, if they stay close to SoR, it’ll really jack up their ratings.

Well to be fair, BG is a FULL server now.

While you have great guilds like any other server, having a great population helps a lot also.

Regardless BG is the top ppt dog for the forseeable future. As for top open field server, that crown is still up for grabs.

What about top dolyak killing server? Top Krait slaying server? Top open world gatherer? So many prizes, anyone can be a winner.

Again, my suggestion: play for fun and competitively, but don’t let it become an “us vs. them” contest.

If you care about those, then go for it. But as of now, there’s 2 schools of WvWers.

The PPT focused and the Fight focused.

Thank you. Our PvE side is what makes us a full server. Our guys are very social in LA and active in Orr as well as dungeons. Only TC has a more active PvE community, and I guest there a lot because of it. Bunch of nice folks there. It’s no wonder TC and us draws so many people.

As far as our WvW, it’s a small percentage of our server and we are recruiting and looking for more guilds to join us. The only time where there’s consitant queue that last for like 5 hours on all 4 maps is during reset on Fridays NA time. Outside of those hours is just random whenever our guys feel like doing some WvW.

Just because you care about ppt and points, doesn’t mean others have to as well.

You do realize there are entire groups of servers on Euro that play only for fights.

Of all the servers on NA, BG seems to care the most about ppt and that certainly is your right, after all, it’s your game.

That’s entirely your opinion. I really don’t see a conflict between fights and points. Even AC wars, sieging fully upgraded keeps, much as people complain about them, offer at least a variety of battle tactics and tempo so I really don’t understand the implied elitism of open field purists. It’s just one type of combat, and guess what, a lot of guilds happen to be good at it even if that’s not the only thing they chase after.

You’re talking to a MERC member who joined the guild because it was the best way I could butt heads with Waha’s forces on a nightly basis. If that’s not playing for the fights, I don’t know what is.

Hey SOR! Thanks for bringing your whole server to BG Hills! I guess Tier 1 tactics is if you can’t be skillful then just throw numbers at it.
