Was playing W1Z3 tribulation mode and because we tend to have a lot of trouble with the mushroom jumps up the big tree trunk (it took me 2.5 hours for the jumps alone when I got my shop achievement back in April), we decided to leave one person at the crocodile to keep him stunned, making it more “stress-free” as we would only have to worry about the jumps (rather than both the jumps and the crocodile foreplay). After learning the hard way that the tail can knock you off the closest plant, I kept hitting him to keep him from waking up, allowing my girlfriend to run through repeatedly, unmolested. I don’t know if this is what happened, but it seems the crocodile can “die”, after which you can no longer stun him but he remains alive for all intents and purposes (i.e. killing you, or preventing entry to the big tree trunk).

This is pretty disappointing, especially since it’s near the end of the zone, as it pretty much guarantees that anyone who has trouble with the big tree trunk will eventually bug out the crocodile after a certain number of stuns/attempts. =( =( =(

Well, it’s not necessary to sit there spamming it in the first place, you can activate it with a simple bomb toss each time you need to go past.

Never said it was necessary, but whether it’s a bomb, stick or whip attack, the crocodile will eventually die if you need to stun him a certain number of times. That’s the issue.

(Also, not that it matters or is relevant to the issue, but by keeping someone on the inside to stun the crocodile, we were able to drop down from the ledge above to bypass the lilypads as well, thus removing an extra layer of difficulty and frustration.)

Actually whip attacks don’t do any damage, so it shouldn’t be possible to “kill” it with that.

That’s what I initially thought too, but try it out on the crocodiles. The whip may not do damage to other SAB denizens, but you’ll see damage figures (25 per hit) pop up on the crocodiles, so no matter what you use to stun the croc, it will eventually block progress. While it’s true that it takes a certain level of inferior player (cough cough) to trigger this scenario, the crocodiles should not be taking damage at all unless ANet intends for there to be a limit on the number of attempts possible getting across the lily pads and up the big tree trunk on Tribulation mode.
