I think the dungeon as a whole, as well as the responses to it in this thread, exemplifies everything myself and numerous others have been saying about how dungeon groups where you blindly run through everything as fast as possible does nothing but create more stupid people.

I mean, I’ve yet to find a group that can manage enough brain cells to figure out how to AVOID the electric walls on Frizz. And that’s the first actual kitten boss encounter.

1. the lasers being out of sync is intended.

2. Mai’s move doesn’t do a one hit kill if you’re properly geared (namely non-zerk)

3. Mai’s move can be dodged, so it’s neither OHKO nor 10 stacks of bleed.

Skill up. This dungeon isn’t easy but it’s not impossible either.

Cannon phase is long though. Makes it more hard because of endurance than skill.

Dear Anet, please nerf the World Completion – its way too long. I also demand a pony.

Achievement:
noun
1. A thing done successfully, typically by effort, courage, or skill.
2. The process or fact of achieving something.

+1. The dungeon is fairly easy and farmable – I am surprised Anet decided to give 1 gold per run for it and frankly thought they are going to nerf the rewards after the first day.

I am a hard core WvWer that personally hated every standard PvE dungeon in the game. I only do them for gold. Its ashame because I really like GW1 dungeons. But GW2 dungeons are full of OP mobs and bosses and full of one hit kills, none of which have anything to do with my realm of reality. (e.g. CoF enemies are so strong, that the Queen should just pay them off and hire them as her body guards. She won’t even need us anymore.)

That said, I did enjoy that Frost and Flame dungeon. I found it very well made. And at the end you have to overcome two bosses with your character skills.

My opinion on this AR dungeon: Its once again full of cheap kills, nothing more.

One hit kills, map wide AoEs, invincible bosses (literally). None of this have anything to do with your character skills. These bosses just cheap kill you, period.

That final boss(es) were a total joke. I don’t think I had been this kitten ed off for a very long time. I rage quitted it after 20 fails in 2 militia groups. All the time wasted in this dungeon could have been spent in WvW helping my server out. I didn’t even have time to get my daily done before I have to sleep.

You see, it isn’t so much that I fail the dungeons that made my angry. Its how CHEAP these dungeons are when they kill you that kitten ed me off so much about all these dungeons.

I will admit that I hate GW2 dungeons in general, and my opinion is far from fair. I have very little patience for dungeons. But I am sorry but I just don’t find these kind of dungeon designs fun at all. And when it is unfun for me, my patience is minimal. 20 trials and failures was already very high for me.

That Frost and Flame dungeon was actually fun, and was a step in the right direction. This new AR dungeon is a step backward.

And this ISN’T EVEN hard mode.

I found it unfun and frustrating…

Some dev should see the difference between super adventure box and a mmorpg.

Because HP are there for a reason ONESHOTS makes them useless
Thoughness is there for a reason again ONESHOTS makes them useless
CC is there for a reason GZ to put immunity (or fast recovery) after 5 layers of defiant XD

All that is a sad excuse for lack of deep gameplay.

SAB is a minigame for a reason….and was based on 8bit games for a reason…we are in 2013 things have changed.

By your logic, Caudecus’s Manor should be possible for people with levels ranging from 1-15 because it’s accessible in an area where people level 1-15 can go. It’s full of level 80 enemies, so common logic should show that it’s meant for characters at level 80. You’re not missing out on a crucial part of the game because you can’t access it. The only item that people will get out of it that you won’t if you miss it is the mini for getting 12 achievements. Don’t worry, when others get to level 80 there’ll be a lot of other chances for them to take part in something like this.

The difference is that Caudecus’s Manor is in a low lvl area, but it does not lvl you up to the proper level to play it like the Aether Dungeon does. By leveling people up to 80, arena net is saying that it is to be played by people of all levels in Lions Arch.

I read down to Shiren’s post and had to comment – good post, BTW, Shiren! I agree 100% with it. I understand the frustration from those that are really good at the game, have mastered thier builds, got the dodge timing down, got the boss animations down, got a good understanding of the nuances … all that and are presented with easy content that doesn’t challenge them. But … this is an event dungeon, with achievements and it is only around for a limited time. Why not make it easier for ‘us noobs’ to run and then, with the patch that removes the content but makes the dungeon permanent, beef it up to the better player’s standards. Yeah, if I get good at something, I want to be tested, challenged. But if I’m not great at it and just want to play the event content, why not ease up a bit?

All this would be fixed with scalable content anyways. Scalable difficulty, scalable loot. It’s being done now in other games.

What does RNG have to do with this instance? Did you even run it? or know what RNG stands for?

The cannon fire IS NOT RANDOM. Instead of running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off, maybe try new strategies. Have your party group up and run TOGETHER around in a clockwise or counter-clockwise pattern. You can avoid most, if not all cannon fire (and no, a run speed or vigor IS NOT needed to complete this task).

This Dungeon is far from hard.

And no I am not an “Elitist Player” of any kind and I’m very much still a ‘newbie’ in much of the GW2 content.
This is how it went for me.

Dungeon was released, I logged in-game and got a PM from a guy I met in CoF to join him for the new dungeon, so I said sure and we went in. My party was 2x Thief, a Necromancer and a Warrior. The warrior later left and was replaced by a Mesmer. I am a Guardian myself.

It was the first time entering the dungeon for all of us so we took our time checking everything out and finding our way. We died a lot at the Golems and laser part and some times during the fights with the large number of enemies. This was mainly due to the fact both the thieves and the warrior were full berserk and I was busy half the time rezzing them. Also some of them didn’t seem to fair very well with jumping and avoiding the lasers, which resulted me and the Mesmer (who replaced the Warrior at this point) trying to finish the 3rd phase of the golems/lasers alone. We finally managed and failed multiple times at the end boss due to half my party dying in 1 hit and somehow being unable to dodge Mai Trin’s obvious attack pattern (heck, she even points at you before attacking). Later our Mesmer got disconnected and was unable to re-join due to ArenaNet closing the dungeon. (bummer, but ah well, can happen).
I then decided to call it a day and try again sometime later.

I went yesterday once more with another PUG group and 1 member of my Guild. I explained them the various parts of the dungeon as we arrived there and in total we only wiped once in the entire dungeon, at the lasers. Some members died during the barrage and some went down due to Mai Trin’s attacks but nothing we couldn’t handle and ress in the subsequent fights. Finished the dungeon in about 50 minutes I think?

Was good fun and actually challenging (in a way of having to pay attention) but was far from “very hard” or “impossible”.

TL;DR;
First day, failed run. Due to PUG party 3 zerkers constantly dying. (3 hours spend)
Second day, completed run. PUG party actually competent and not constantly dying in 1 hit. (50 minutes run).

Alternatively, have your whole team spread out, and have everyone simply take small steps to spots without red circles. There are always gaps in between the red circles, where you can stand safely. By spreading out, the red circles will be less clustered, and there will be more safe spots. Both methods are effective.

The dungeon isn’t easy, but it’s generally fair. And when a dungeon is fair, experienced players can manage it easily. The challenge with the lasers for example is perfectly doable, if you understand you have to stand on the boxes for the low lasers, and run away for the big walls.

But the final boss is not entirely fair. Even though I managed to complete it, I don’t feel the mechanics are well designed. The boss design in this game is still pretty terrible.

Weird, I have never been oneshoot in this dungeon. Wrong build ?

Depends on a class. My guardian bunker gets oneshot-killed if pulled in front of the big laser wall. Combination of relatively low hps compared to other classes, and toughness doing nothing in this case.
(yes, stability and dodging help a bit, but not being pulled every 5 seconds would help more)

In general, the dungeon isn’t hard per se. It’s tedious, and filled with cheap mechanics that generally completely ignore class skills and concentrate on manual dexterity only. If i liked these types of mechanics, i’d play bullet hell games, not GW.

It absolutely kills me the number of people who refuse to change their skill bars to make this easier. Even with a PUG, communication is key. Communicate what skills you are taking to help and change them as needed for each area of the dungeon. Hell, the dev talk about this dungeon says blatantly that STABILITY is a must, yet few people even use it! Invisibility is also a great one for the Cannon Barrage at the end (although the last one lasts too long IMO). Also, Stay together as a group and go in the same direction. If one person lags behind you will all most likely start taking hits. Have a thief or mesmer make you invisible. For Mai, as a Guardian, I took Save Yourselves!. I watched my teams status bars and health. When a few team members had stacks of bleed and their health was low I would use Save Yourself! then use a condition remover, then a heal and everyone was back to tip top shape.

Is this dungeon easy? No. Is it impossible? No. You have just GOT to be more flexible in your play style. The build you use in PvE for all maps just might not get you through this one UNLESS you are open to communication and changing your skill bar.

Seriously why does everyone feel entitled to do this.
It’s not an important part of the story (kill some asura, kill some aetherblades, capture the leader, hurray) the event can be participated in other ways, it’s not even a hard dungeon. If anything, this is the first dungeon actually fun to do with your guild. I understand some people want to play mmo’s solo and you have every right to, but also understand that for some people mmo’s are all about group play an playing together. And while the solo guys have been treated like kings (aka every other living story thing ever) us dungeon runners have been ignored and abandonned, and now that they do one thing for us you cry and say you don’t have any content? (while they did add solo stuff)

Welcome to our world!

This is the first dungeon that even gets near challenging group content. (wich is a big part of mmo’s, as a fact, doesn’t matter if you like it or not) We’ve been abandonned for months and now it’s our time to have a bit of fun. (altough this dungeon gets facerollable real fast, thank god for the achievements on avoiding lasers and aoe) The only thing that sucks is that this is temporary. There is no good reason to make it that way, i don’t care that the lore doesn’t match, we defeated zaithen a dozen times and nobody cares either. This content should stay in the game, as the molten dungeon should have stayed in. If this game keeps removing the best content it offers, i’m gonna be moving on to a game where content is available when i choose to do it.

A movie doesn’t force me to watch it within a certain time, i can watch a television series or program whenever i want these days, it is STUPID that i can’t do the same for a game without missing a few episodes. The world does not feel living, it’s been the same kitten thing since launch except the southsun area, and instead of letting it grow with more content, you remove what you add, how the hell does that mean living?

The dredge and flame legion are still there, but somehow they parted ways and now have become seperate again? That’s stupid. When the dredge and flame legion team up, a living world would replace all dredge and flame legion mobs everywhere by molten mobs and go on from that. Doesn’t matter they get pushed back, they still have this technology, they don’t just loose that and become normal again…

Stick to the mmo formula and ADD do not take things away you add to a game, it doesn’t have any benefits AT ALL.

If you are looking for a cozy mature Dutch guild (EU) let me know.

The problem is that players have been babied and left to faceroll all the content in the game for months. Most of them never learned to actually play the game correctly. They just equip full zerker gear, stand in one spot and spam attacks until the thing dies.

Now that a dungeon has been designed to make you use at least 10% of the available mechanics in the game no one can do it because there was no content that ever needed it before. Once you learn some situational awareness, how to switch utilities on your bar for different situations, learn to properly dodge, and don’t have a full group of zerker geared players, but instead use the damage/support/control trinity then you will find the dungeon is actually fairly easy and can be completed in about 30 -40 minutes.

Once you learn some situational awareness, how to switch utilities on your bar for different situations, learn to properly dodge, and don’t have a full group of zerker geared players, but instead use the damage/support/control trinity then you will find the dungeon is actually fairly easy and can be completed in about 30 -40 minutes.

exactly this

look at most meta-events which are considered “difficult” open world encounters: you stand in front of the Shatterer/Tequatl and hit Autoattack until the boss is dead (5 minutes later). Some people still have no idea how combofields work, for example. The game doesn’t do a good job to teach game mechanics during events. No real test of your skill. Not even skill-challenges do this, just burn down the skill-mob.

ANet look at your server stats – you’ve way overtuned this instance.

How many times do you need to be told you have to set up a test server?
How many people need to stop playing before you listen?

Took multiple pug groups through here and never had any major issues. I explained what they needed to do and they did it. Only annoying thing is the cannon phase really, and even that is just an annoyance not a game breaking thing.

Keep it the way it is.

so you are happy that in order to play a “challenging” (debatable) content they have to introduce things that override completely what the game is about.

I knew what would happen with this dungeon even before trying it.

if you need i made a post from before patch…
I wasn t deluded mostly because i know how dungeon team seems incapable of giving any meaning to equipment, skills and traits in PvE.

enjoy SAB 2.0

Do you even read what you write here?

So the fact that this is really hard with no condition removal and in zerker gear doesn’t give any meaning to equipment, skills or traits? Not to mention that stability on Frizz makes it almost too easy of a fight.

Learn some proper grammar and some play skill then come back to the forums, its hard enough getting your poor logic without fighting your inability to type properly.

Pretty sure most people are enjoying this dungeon. In no way is it “overtuned” why dont you maybe increase your skill level instead of increasing your forum crying.

.

fisrst i begin saying that i m quite tired up of people making discrimination to foreign players.

This game has not localized forum so according to guidelines you should stop at once attacking insulting people who don t speak english flawlessly that i remember you its not even the most spoken Language in the world.

I doubt that if ingame people can t attack players for not speaking in english, the forum would let people attack people over grammar….
We are not on an english forum we are on a Worldwide forum afaik.

Said that i didn t see people complaining about trash mobs..
I saw most of the complaining about lasers, cannon shots and the usual attack with almost no telling.

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

It’s baffling to see how many people think this dungeon needs a nerf. Does everyone expect everything to be as easy as CoF P1?
I can’t tell if it’s plain ignorance or you just lack the ability to pick up mechanics in a dungeon that actually requires some thinking.
