And yes, all of these were done with pugs (minus the Kill Aetherblades in X Zone which was done solo, but I can answer questions about that, too)!

Not at all, I don’t mind doing this dungeon, especially working towards the Monocle and/or Infinite Tonic Recipe.

However, if it gets late/really early, I may become grouchy and/or weird.

Congratulations. This proves it was okay for ArenaNet to place 1 cache in WvW area.

I did WvW cache at 3 AM, not many players online at that time… btw, there is invisibility fountain at the start of JP on the right side, up behind ruins of some tower… you can enter it from water, climbing up from fallen pillar

Hoping I can find a group to do the dungeon with for the achievements as I don’t do many dungeons, but I did have fun doing the “Flame and Frost” one, as well as, Arah for my personal story completion.

Pretty much all of the people I came with from GW1 left within the first two months after launch so I never got the chance to fully learn the whole dungeon thing with the group of people I was familiar with.

Congratulations. This proves it was okay for ArenaNet to place 1 cache in WvW area.

I am more PvE than PvP and managed to get this.

Now while I did make it to the area without a teleport my 2 year old helped me fall off a cliff near the final chests at which point I did accept an offered teleport as I needed to log in order to put my focus on my child not the game.

It also helps that at least on our server line up most players were aware that more PvE types were in there and for the most part there was an unofficial truce going on, and while that made it easier it wasn’t a walk in the park either.

I don’t mind PvP content mixed in to a point with my PvE experience when it is something like “Crab Toss” or “Dragon Ball”, however, just because some of us that fall into the more PvE player type obtained this achievement that does not prove that it was okay for Arenanet to force this style of play on players.

They allowed a lazy habit of players relying on portals to get to the end of a good chunk of jumping puzzles (I have mixed feelings on this myself as in other games I have played it would be considered a legal, but not so legal exploit) in which case it seems that they may have just went with this expecting that players were going to use portals and that PvE’ers would take advantage of them and it would not be so painful.

To be honest though if that were even part of what was considered then it just seems even more lazy on the content designers parts, but I am one person with my own view and opinion so I don’t care if anyone agrees or not.

If they want to make PvP’ers feel like they get something out of these living stories other than just PvP games then make better neutral content around that so that even PvE’ers can fit in better.

To be honest it would have been interesting to have a PvP/WvW type zone based upon the Aetherblades theme where the achievements were a mix between NPC Aetherblade kills and PC kills.

Things like that where even the least experienced PvP’er could take part in something less frustrating, because as many have said about their own server line ups they won’t even have a chance at this cache as they do not own/nor will they own a keep to get in to begin with be it small server or not enough PvP interest as a whole on it, etc.

So when all is said and done I am all for an achievement taking reasonable skill and effort, but to dangle a carrot in front of hundreds of people that will never be able to even attempt this is just wrong.

All achievements even if hard should be at least accessible, and they could have thought that part through by allowing even a temporarily patched in portal into the WvW JP where you zone into the EB.

Though it is what it is and they did put it into a PvP JP area so outside some of the considerations they could have did with this being a limited event I don’t agree with those complaining that people are PvP’ing them, etc.

Even being more PvE myself I knew very well that even trying to attempt this once in was what it was. A PvP area.

You need to prioritise better. Games ALWAYS come first

I’m also a solo roamer in WvW, and I used to do the EB JP on a semi-daily basis. I got through with only falling once (at it was at the little area right before the dark room, so I was able to get back up easily).

I also made sure it wasn’t peak hours, but it wasn’t an off-hour either. I ran by ~10 people, none from my server, and the closest I got to a fight was a few people running with fall damage trait almost tagging me.

1 Dolyak-Sized Moa. I have Polymorph Moa, so I would polymorph it to a reasonable size and then continue fighting it, either that or I’d just clone-tank it as it’s one target (and Moa-Sized Dolyaks are still big!)

On a side note: Have you ever been to Kappa in Queensdale? She has a really nice dynamic event chain where you can purchase Mini-Moa’s at the end.

You need to prioritise better. Games ALWAYS come first

IKR, but that’s what being patient until they can game with you is all about. Worked great with my 13 year old twins, and usually I don’t mind my 2 year old helping out by getting me killed though in there it was a bit more interesting that’s for sure.

Anyway, that wasn’t me that got flamed, but I do have to say once again that Dragonbrand was exceptional in helping allow for an unofficial truce even if others from SoS were not so exceptional about it. I was walking by large groups of you guys clustered around and noticed that no one was trying to instant kill me so I caught on pretty fast. I mainly had to watch for the little riots fellow SoS’ers started and the other realm (EB??? Can’t recall atm).

Congratulations, Esplen. I’m still trying for Unfriendly Skies and Personal Space myself.

For Personal Space, one good strategy my team has been using is as follows:

Everybody pick a corner to stand (5th person who doesn’t need/want the achievement can stand in the center, where there’s a higher risk of getting hit). Each cannoneer (Horrik, Mai and the two Thumpers) randomly pick one separate target to attack, meaning that one person will always go untargeted. If everybody is spread out across the room, the barrages are fairly light per person and it should be fairly simple to just sidestep out of the way of the AoE circles. Block and invulnerability skills can also help in giving some breathing space. You can also dodge out of the way if things are tight, but do your best not to dodge into another person’s area, since that increases the risk of multiple barrages firing into that area and thus giving both of you no safe places to stand.

Since you only need to avoid getting hit by Horrik, you may still qualify for the achievement even if you get hit by the circles, so keep your fingers crossed.

What Zaxares says helps. However, during the onslaughts, you only have to avoid Horrik’s shots. (On the ground, it’s still unsure if you have to avoid all of Horrik’s shots, Horrik’s blue shots, or none of them. One of the devs posted, but was contradictory to a support ticket, so it’s still up in the air.)

I do also believe that the red cannon shots (on the ground from Horrik) do not count against this achievement. I used to intentionally block it with clones, but I can’t guarantee anything.

In the barrages, you can watch Horrik to see which shots he shoots, but that’s risky and I would just suggest getting a Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew to help moving around. The +40% endurance regen is overridden by vigor, but most professions can’t get vigor with no mobs.

EDIT: Just did Zaxares method. It worked until someone decided it would be great to move from their corner to the middle, which screwed everyone else over in a progressive pattern. (Middle had to go to the side, side had to go to other side, other side had to go midde.)

For both of you: I have created this.

I was able to get Unfriendly Skies (finally). It was still rough going and we finished with barely a minute to spare, whew! What worked for us was running a big circle around the room. We tried in a previous run the stick-to-your-own-corner method but that turned into a disaster with people stepping into each other’s areas and cannon fire chaos ensuing. I’m sure it works but running around in a circle around the room is much less stressful. Haven’t gotten the Personal Space achievement yet, but practice makes perfect right?

You only need to avoid his attacks during the three cannon phases. He only uses the orange shots. If you take any damage from them (including burning) then you fail.

If you got ALL the achievements … how did you do “Questions for Mai” ? especially if you have 0 achievement points there ?

Funny guy. I got all the available achievements. Plus, the Mai one is just interacting with an NPC in Lion’s Arch in abit.

I feel like I might be missing something, but I’m finding it impossible to get the Faster Than Light achievement on my guardian. It seems like the golems all make a beeline for me and ragdoll me all over the place, regardless of how much I pop an Aegis or stability utility. Is anybody else running into this problem? This achievement is driving me bonkers! I’m thinking I might have to job change for this one, but I really wish I could do it as guardian…

You have a higher chance of being grabbed if you’re on high-ground. Focus on utilizing stunbreakers and evasion more as (well, evasion has no cooldown, other than Endurance which food can provide, or vigor) you can use them more (stunbreakers have lower cooldowns than stability skills).

Also, make sure you are watching the golems and the lasers in the final phase. Dealing damage < surviving. Make sure you’re in a good and safe spot BEFORE you start attacking. Then proceed to survive again. It’s better to take it slow than to kill yourself rushing it. When I end up soloing the final two golems, it’ll take me anywhere from 2-8 minutes, which is what makes it difficult, because you’re going for so long and have so many opportunities to make mistakes.

On the other hand, it gives you so many opportunities to survive. Using Phase Retreat THROUGH walls, or Blink if I missed jumping up a wall, or even Decoy to start moving if I get grabbed. I also Feedback to prevent them from confusing me, etc, etc, etc. And most of my damage while I’m kiting is from my staff clones because I’m pseudo-condi spec. Of course, this doesn’t apply to you superbly well as I AM a Mesmer.

Here’s a couple of bonus tips I picked up.

- Invulnerability works.
If you have a profession with invulnerability skills like Obsidian Flesh, you can use them in a pinch, like when the camera decides to borks up and get stuck zooming in all the way to a crate and you can’t see what you are doing.

- Unblockable
Unblockable skills like ranger traps and traited necromancer marks will hit the golems even when they have the supercharged shield effect from the beams. A ranger can run around laying traps and be a bit safer.

I finally did manage to get this with a great group and some patience. The trick that worked for us was we all grouped together after the first golem (when the laser beams start picking up speed and the walls pop up). As long as you’re all running together, then the golems won’t chase players all around the room and run into the walls, thus charging up and pulling people. Best of luck to everybody!

damage isn’t as important as cond remove and heal.
i recommend an engi for bleed removal and a support guard for
healing. two warriors with “shake it off” and endurance signet + endure pain
are more than enough damage wise. last spot is filled best with a
support elementalist. was extremely easy and we had about 4 minutes left at the end
