If no one realized yet, the developers that made this game include an enhanced level of suffering to appease hard core players that love to suffer. If they aren’t at the edge of rage, palm sweat and all, then they aren’t having “fun”. That’s why to most everyone else it’s considered grieving, not fun.

For the JP, I’ll hop on my Mesmer and help portal people up. Ask if there’s a portal and wait for it. Maybe even give WvW a try in the meantime…

I hated battlegrounds in WoW but I have really enjoyed WvW. That said, I just tried to find the cache in Obsidian Sanctum. What did I find to greet me? 10+ of one of the other team, /laughing at me. Ran down anyway, because might as well try, right? Found them scattered throughout the puzzle, got attacked, managed to run out in the nick of time. Looks like I’m not going to complete that anytime soon, if ever.

Not everyone likes PVP and those that do may not have a small army of friends to back them up when they try to do stuff like this. Don’t make PVP a requirement for PVE achievements, please. It’s bad enough I’m going to have to wait how many weeks for my server to change to the right colour so I can finally get world completion. Nobody wants to try and take blue’s keep.

WvW is actually a mix of pve and pvp, so you can drop the pve content in pve area vs pvp content in pvp area thing because it’s not strictly pve or pvp.

They support consensual PvP, which isn’t a toxic environment. Consensual PvP is engaged in by people who both agree to it.

If you do not wish to participate in consensual PvP, you don’t go into areas where it takes place. That would include the World vs. World battlefields and the Jumping Puzzles located therein. Shockingly, PvP occurs in PvP zones.

That is usually the case. This time however Anet decided to muddle the distinction, by putting a PvE content, part of a PvE storyline, inside a Pvp zone. Most of the killed people did not wish to participate in any PvP – they were following the PvE living world story. Thus, it stopped being consensual PvP.

It’s a PvP jumping puzzle… you go trough it to do one of two things, to get to the end to contribute to your team’s effort with the rewards (which include siege equipment, for example), or to prevent enemies from contributing to their team’s effort

None of the two is taking place here. It’s either people that are there to get to the cache, which doesn’t contribute to their server at all, or people that want to prevent PvE players from getting achievement – which also doesn’t contribute to their team. In other words, it’s an event completely unrelated to the WvW.

As i have already said here, mixing PvE and PvP content together never ends well. It only serves to increase the division between those two playing styles.

I play PvP, both sPvP and WvW… I go there consensually, and die when I die, and don’t cry about it.

Funny, since you’ve made a thread here that’s nothing but crying about it.

Again, this might just be an Achievement that you won’t have fun getting. So don’t try. Better to do the things you enjoy than to get upset trying things you won’t. If you’re not cut out for PvP, then you’re not cut out for PvP. No shame in that.

Why are people complaining about this? It’s not like you are forced to complete the achievement. I feel bad for the people that only do WvW and are forced to go into PvE to get the other 6 cache boxes.

I’m glad they spread everything out and included the EB JP. It’s been a while since I’ve been in there and it brought back fond memories. I just hope they add more content in there. Good work Anet!!!!

So what you are suggesting is that to do the achievement we should all create a thief and level it up in a week just for the pleasure of being able to get a ->PvE<- achievement?

I can only imagine what everyone else is thinking to that suggestion…

If you dont want to fight. Seriously, all your complain is: I get killed, I dont want to PvP in PvP JP (What ????). Thief is easy way to avoid all fight (due to their stealth+mspd) and stealth is encouraged in Obsidian Sanctum (EB JP) > mystic fountain grant you stealth not stability, not regeneration, not other boon.

A week ? I can level up my thief (or any class) in least than 6 hours.

ps: I do this EB JP as a warr (for this ach) not a thief (and not using mesmer portal), but in the past, sometimes I used thief to do this EB JP, and it worked very well. 90% player will never catch you or if they even try to catch you, you outrun them (at that time, my thief only lvl 31). The only problem is in dark room, if you do it again and again, you will not need torch to navigate this dark room.

just to share a bit,

my casual guild in Sea of Sorrows – Choo Choo Train Volution [CCTV] does our guild missions on every sunday evening, after 9pm, GMT +8:00

recently, we usually go zerg in WvW for some fun after we complete our Guild Bounty, Guild Challenge and Guild Rush (we skip Guild Puzzle though, maybe only once per month) and this weekend, Sunday, we will zerg Obsidian Sanctum after completing our weekly weekend guild missions run, so most of us will have a good chance get the cache achievement.

we have about 50+ active members online doing guild missions each weekend.
i believe they should be happy to come along to clear their cache achievements.

strength in numbers!

however, i do hope the WvW servers match making does not screw us over this saturday.
i.e. if we get paired up with 2 aggressive servers they might have taken over our keep in eternal battlegrounds, this means we must fight to take back our keep first. or they have a lot of people camping inside obsidian sanctum and we need to wipe them out first. but i think 50+ members should be enough to clear out any forces inside obsidian sanctum.

Yes, it’s PvP. But the CONTENT is PvE. The only reason the puzzle area in WvW sees this increase in traffic is because PvErs are going there to gain the PvE achievements and content.

And thank God for mesmers. Finally got this done, in the early morning hours, due to the kindness of a mesmer who ported our people.

If ANet employees actually read this thread, please place content in zones designed for the players who play in said zone. PvP content for PvPers. PvE content for the PvErs. You guys know this.

You separated the dailies and/or monthlies into those areas for this reason.

WvW is not a pure PvP, its PvE + PvP. They don’t need to separate this. Its only 1 cache, missing 2 achievement is not the end of the world. You need only 12 from 19. 19 – 2 – 3 seems likely impossible achievement (dungeon (I dont care with Horrik achievement)) left you with 14, more than enough to finish your meta achievement.

Still confused as to why the main argument for this is that it’s a PvE achievement in a PvP zone. Seems to me it’s, if anything, a jumping puzzle achievement addition, which has not ever been 100% exclusively PvE content. Sure it’s not under a PvP tab, but neither are the achievements for completing the PvP JPs, so that point really doesn’t hold up all that well.

I guess you could claim JPs aren’t for PvP, but anet put them there. Not liking it is one thing, but to say that they aren’t meant for em, well that seems wrong. Clearly, anet wanted PvP in at least a few of the JPs.

If you don’t like it, I suggest you enjoy the rest of the content that has been provided. It’s a very small part of this living story and likely you won’t even care in a few days/weeks.

Got it yesterday. Took some time, had to wait for an incoming zerg to clear the arena, but proud to say I got both (obby sanctum and pirates) completely legit. Made every jump myself.

I’m 90% pve but I do not shy away from pvp challenges. Neither should 4 pages of complainers.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

Did you complain about having to do non-PvE content to get all of your achievements for the previous events?
Besides, like another person put it; you’re not entitled (oooh that word makes me shiver) to have all of the achievements. Just as if someone that exclusively PvPed and WvWed wailed that they have to slog through PvE content to fill out their achievement panel.

Obsidian Sanctum’s portion of the Living Story Achievement was easy as eating caaaaaaaaaake. Why people dare baww about it is beyond me. Go when there’s a lot of allies! Wait for the low point of player population! Fight your way to it!

And people getting mad over people breaking some sort of ‘truce’ in there? Really? It’s a Player Vs. Player zone; why should anyone have to adjust to fit your desire? If you want to get there then focus on that. If people want to attack you, then be prepared to fight or die. If people don’t want to attack you and are after the same goal then go happily along your way. I started fighting around in some of the areas because it was fun and entertaining. Though I ditched shortly after when a mob of opposing world forces showed up and started riding pain trains around all over the place.

Again, many of you are missing the point. I don’t care how quick you are if you have an entire group waiting atop the well to jump you. Or how about those nice people who aren’t killing you . . . they’re just throwing throws to knock you off the ledges to get their giggles.

The problem with arguing the area isn’t PvE is because ALL the other caches are PvE. The mere idea that it’s now PvP content because it’s a PvP zone is nuts. In the other six or so areas, there were no mobs waiting to jump you en masse or knocking you off cliffs for their enjoyment. Other players are doing this . . . not computer generated enemies.

Really? That has to be explained?

While I agree it’s not the ‘end of the world’ or words to that effect, many players are completely unaware that certain other players are more than willing to kill them much less grief them. And hello? The griefers KNOW those players are on their way.

They’re not suddenly camping that area to play twiddle-winks, you know.

I told myself after getting Obsidian done the first time (NEVER would have made it if our server didn’t own all of EB and two other players happened to be in there to follow) and I’m sticking to it. I’ll focus on some others to get the bonus item.

I would like to point out though the disaster that this achievement is. People who could do the puzzle in their sleep are going to be in key spots waiting for the PvE achievement people, who are going to be easy targets if they don’t WvW/PvP at all. I see where all the kitten is coming from, but at the same time there’s enough achievements available to skip Obsidian. But, if 6/7 bugs your completionist kitten, then man up and get the JP done and quit complaining xD.

There have been lots of other PvP achievements already mixed with the PvE stuff. Remember stuff like Dragon Ball? Crab Toss? It’s not your usual PvP with your class and the class skills. But it is still PvP. People complained. ArenaNet made it that the achievement does not count towards meta. That’s all.

They won’t remove this completely or nerf it by making the cache at the beginning(if they did they should also give me all dungeon achievements for just “entering” the dungeon).

The only servers that can complain are servers like Vabbi(they might not even be able to hold a keep for 5 minutes – they should get a free transfer to another server and then free transfer back – without time restriction).

My server did bigger groups… one of the WvW commanders(that knows the puzzle cause he plays WvW and does it to get his tons of golems) did a group and while he was at it he also did the other JPs in the Borderlands to show some people from his guild and others were invited to join too.

More people is always better.

I agree it is very hard if you do it the first time – especially with enemies nearby(later if you did it a few times it will be easy). That’s why you should go in groups(especially now that there are more enemies nearby). Try to rez if possible and group up if you see a dead and no enemies nearby… if a mesmer is at the top it is easy(you could try to stay a bit if you manage to get to the top to help your people… then later leave and let other servers get there).

No. There are people that don’t want ArenaNet to nerf the Blackout Cache achievement – because they don’t like to do dungeons. I am one of these people. If they nerfed that Cache achievement I would feel bad… cause they made something easier for others that I already got…

but what about me? I still have do to the hard dungeon? Dungeon sucks. Much harder mobs – they are cheating… mobs should be like players and have the same skills and an AI and not thousands of HP. Killing players in PvP is much easier.

They would need to fix this for me too then. Making the dungeon easier. Only normal mobs. Bosses = vets. Nothing stronger than that. Treating the players equal.

Easiest solution: Just leave everything as it is(and I’m sure that’s how it will happen).

Actually when I did it, there was a surplus of enemies but most of them wanted the achievement. Basically I went with the mentality that if you don’t act like you want to fight, you won’t be fought. Of course some people don’t have this thought methods and will fight but that was mainly at the beginning of the place. At the end I was sitting in a group of like 8 opposing enemy players. Just chilling.

How long will this stay? 2 weeks? By the end most PvE players will already have the achievement. Will be boring for WvW only players to camp there – they will go back to do real WvW(since there is not much else in the JP).

People that want to kill the mobs will do so at other places.

I remember the holo projectors at the beginning were also overcamped… later almost nobody used them anymore(no a few people are back for killing Aetherblades but not that much – most staying at the Caches).

At the end it will be much easier – especially with groups – there will be the usual daily jumpers for the big chest that know the puzzle… you can group with them…(as long as you are not on a server like Vabbi).

They don’t camp that much… some servers are on top a bit but not for hours. If they get “cleared” 1 time they leave. The usual WvW players that are left in a week when most PvE players will have completed it are not camping there for hours… boring.

Camping a camp (lol) in WvW is much more interesting… like the thieves running around in the open WvW map in enemy territory killing 1 player away from the zerg.

Yesterday we couldn’t get past the dome with a guildie thanks to some JQ trolling – Rall worked together with BG – but just this morning we shared exemplary comradeship with a fellow BG sylvari elementalist. She didn’t have a torch in the dark chamber, so I always moved ahead as slowly as possible, showing where to jump without throwing torches or making bonfires. In the dome room we fell a couple of times, but we always awaited the other. In the end we both made it to the top and the cache.

And props to JQ, too, for controlling the top with mesmers and all else, but not engaging in bloody violence with firendly foes. Thanks guys!

P.S.: I hope the Blackgate sylvari elementalist will read this. It’s been an incredible experience, and I’d love to see him/her on my friends list.

The problem with your example is that those areas, toward the achievement, specifically embrace fighting or competing against other players. In that case, no, I don’t believe the ‘complainers’ have a leg to stand on.

In this case, you’re trying to reach the end of a jumping puzzle. This doesn’t require you to fight other players to achieve the goal.

That’s the problem.

The actual goal is to reach a certain destination via your ‘jumping skill’ more or less. That makes it PvE. If you were required to fight other players in order to score toward said achievement, granted.

But it’s not required. It’s incidental because of the area. Again, it’s PvE. As far as what ANet will do, I doubt anything will be done for this update.

But, it’s my hope that they never do this again.

If anyone is self-centered in this scenario, it’s the obnoxious griefers there for the sole purpose of making other players have a miserable time and fail at an achievement. I get fighting other players to the top, which I think was ANet’s intent. Both sides are working toward something in that scenario, being the achievement. In southsun when they had you collecting plant specimens, they allowed you to get one less than the actual total to get the meta for it, presumably so people weren’t forced on to the JP. Perhaps they could do something similar here? Require 6 out of 7 for the meta, so if you are on a sever that is just getting thrashed for 2 weeks, you aren’t totally screwed. Im fine with having pvp achievements, but mixing pvp and pve achievements in one meta, where both are required is not something they have done before, (or at least recently) and I think that is really the problem people have with this.

Anyone seriously offended by people pvp-ing in a pvp zone needs to take a step back and calm down.

Why you would expect others to adjust their playing according to your desire and contrary to the rules of the game is completely beyond my understanding.

Why? Because Aetherblade doesn’t have anything to do with WvWvW. Then they put it in WvWvW totally randomly.

People who have lost their keep can’t even go in the Puzzle at all. And if you can go in, you get camped and killed.

Why not put Legendary Mobs at every cache.. maybe 5 at least or more. So we never make it.

They give us PvE content in a WvWvW envoirment. If your server is losing you can kiss that achievement goodbye. Maybe people like you don’t mind it. But people like me do, I want to have everything completed. I don’t care about the meta being 12 or 4. I want everything, just to feel good myself.

Like I said in the post I made: Give us an immunity that we can get the achievement without being disturbed. But that also means not be able to opens the Mistwrought Chest. The immunity stops the moment you use a waypoint or leave the instance. So you can’t put it out yourself. You click it you have it untill you leave the instance. Or use the waypoint. This way people can do it. And the WvWvWers can fight each other.

Give you immunity. Is that a joke? How about give people that play mainly wvw immunity so we can do the stupid pve dungeons with ease. No?

Guys you don’t need the achievement, but if you come for it expect to die. When you step out of carebear land you are asking for what you get. I think it’s already enough that the carebears benefit from people who spend tons of time,effort, and gold in wvw..

That’s like picking on the smallest kid in class for fun. And that’s never cool.

This opinion, sir, is the epitome of why I dislike WvW. Also the reason that there should not be a cache in WvW. Too many people like this and not enough that actually want a good community.

The problem with your example is that those areas, toward the achievement, specifically embrace fighting or competing against other players. In that case, no, I don’t believe the ‘complainers’ have a leg to stand on.

In this case, you’re trying to reach the end of a jumping puzzle. This doesn’t require you to fight other players to achieve the goal.

That’s the problem.

The actual goal is to reach a certain destination via your ‘jumping skill’ more or less. That makes it PvE. If you were required to fight other players in order to score toward said achievement, granted.

But it’s not required. It’s incidental because of the area. Again, it’s PvE. As far as what ANet will do, I doubt anything will be done for this update.

But, it’s my hope that they never do this again.

The jumping puzzle always hasn’t been “jumping only”. Otherwise they would not have PvP enabled there. If I remember correctly they already nerfed it(building siege there was possible in the past).

Also: Players that want all the JP achievement(most of them are PvE only!) need to to this one too – which is WvW(PvE and you can get attacked… not only jumping). Nobody complained about this so far.

Also for legenadries you need WvW(because of badges) while most of the stuff required for legendaries is PvE.

WvW zergs “rewarded with loot bags from easy-to-kill PvE players”. It’s the equivalent of Ambient creatures dropping loot bags for PvE players, actually.

Lol, this isn’t the way I saw it. Sure I got killed by groups a couple times, but every single griefer that started with me, I killed. So maybe you guys should go back to the zerg where you feel safe. None of you could fight worth a crap 1 vs 1. Literally not a single one of you had any real battle skill. You guys think WvW is real PvP, when it’s nothing but a numbers game. And the fact is, Obsidian Sanctum isn’t even real WvW. They gave Obsidian Sanctum it’s own map so it wouldn’t take players away from doing actual WvW.

I found out last night the griefers in that jp basically suck elsewhere in the game so they try getting easy kills on other people who just want to get the cache and get out. Poor griefers, just trying to stroke your little ego’s, then still get your @sses handed to you.

No, eb jp is not PvE. It is very much PvP. And it is not incidentanl because of the area it is in – there are traps in that jp and given there are no creatures, these traps are designed to be used on players. Even the rewards of the jp are PvP. eb jp is PvP because it has been designed as PvP, not because is was placed in a PvP area by ovesight.

Also yes PVErs are extreme Care Bears for the majority of them…why you say? It doesn’t take too much skill to remember exactly how an NPc is going to attack or where each one is and just do the same thing over and over again, they are not sentient and don’t have reaction times, fighting an actual player/players is a challenge and takes at very least some thought and attention ! Also for the large majority, updates have been PVE focused and the PVErs still QQ more than anyone by a long shot bc they always want more or they can’t do something in 5 minutes(example: Holo projectors) the QQ about that when they came our bc they were being camped and people couldn’t get the kills achievement in 1 flipping day…you walk around the map now and most are abandoned and ripe for picking…PVErs are generally very impatient and unappreciative of what they are given plain and simple

Why not focus your ire and energy on the people responsible for creating this situation? You know who they are – those wacky devs who seem to think PVP and PVE are like chocolate and peanut butter despite all evidence to the contrary. You’d think threads like this one would eventually get the point across, but game devs in general don’t seem to be well-versed in picking up on such subtleties. Perhaps if, instead of sniping at each other, everyone here (apart from those here just for the proverbial lulz) came out and said something to the effect of ‘Hey cut it out with this PVPVE nonsense!’ then maybe, just maybe, it would eventually get through to them. Miracles do, occasionally, happen. Then everyone could go on about their merry PVP or PVE ways and, with luck, never be tempted to cross paths and/or purposes again.
