And I heard the chance for a weapon ticket is 1%. But it doesn’t matter either way, whether it’s 1 or 30 percent. There shouldn’t be keys/lockboxes involved in the first place. This guy explains why:

One of the best posts I ever read on this forum since, well, it’s very creation.

Dude! Thanks for giving us the link to that post. That was a really well written and informative post and I enjoyed reading it.

If they increase the percentage of those weapons skins to be obtained in the boxes. Then we will see less descriptive threads, but then they turn into it’s easy to obtain threads.

When the dye kits came out, i said to myself i wouldn’t buy them, but ended up buying 7 stacks of 5. That’s 3500 gems, or about the same as 3 months sub in a P2P game.
From those 35 dyes, i got 4 of the new ones. Not really worth it and it seems like the weaponskins in this event’s chests have an even lower droprate.
ANet will probably make some good cash in the short term, but in the long run, i think they will end up with a lot of unhappy and kitten off players.

They should be able to make enough money by letting us get exactely what we pay for in the gem store without this ridiculous RNG. So far, I’ve spent more cash on this game each month than I’ve ever spent on a P2P game, and I’m not a big spender either.
I’m ok with that as long as i know what I’m getting. However, i haven’t bought anything since the dyes and mining pick. The weekly minis are nice and so are the living story weaponskins, but as long as ANet continue with these RNG cashgrab chests, I’ll keep my spendings to a minimum.

If a RL shop had a poster on the window enticing people to come in and buy wonders then when they did they left feeling ripped off and out of pocket, you think they would go back to that shop and tell their friends to?

I bought every costume in GW1 and have no complaints but I wouldn’t touch the rng things with my jeeb jar (jar of change/coins ). Having players have to pay for the carrot is a low move.

The powerball lottery just gave away a record-breaking jackpot – nearly 600 million dollars. The money doesn’t come out of thin air, it’s just PART of the tickets sales leading up to the drawing. And you think people won’t go for this sort of thing?

Every store advertising lottery tickets does this. And they line up to buy them.

Excuse me, but how does that applies to RNG ? You can;t even sell that skin if you don;t like it, and I guess it could be worth around 600g in GW, maybe there’s analogy, but at this moment, people packing money into crates and getting nothing aren’t leading anywhere…

You’re right, lottery tickets have nothing whatsoever to do with randomly generated numbers. Or with people spending lots of money trying to win a prize.

They do, I just pointed, that not exactly in the same way as here. What if some lucky kitten who even doesn’t like new skins gets crate from the 10th mob, and bam, there’s ticket ? At least undo it account bound… ot make lottery tickets in GW2 which you can buy on TP and leave weapons skins obtainable in easier way…

The system is working as intended right now. If they give you an easier way to get the items, then most people will choose the easier way and their profit margins shrink. Why would you expect them to say “hey, making a lot less money is a great idea!”

You can buy legendary weapons on the TP – this makes them LESS coveted because it’s more about having enough gold than being lucky/persistent enough to get through other means. Also, like legendaries, their rarity would make the lottery-based skins much more expensive than other skins and so complaints would only shift from no money/luck to “I can’t farm the gold fast enough because the prices keep going up!”

You can get most weapons/armor on the TP and use tranformations to change their stats to whatever suits you. The common stuff isn’t coveted because it’s easy to get. Exotics aren’t coveted because they’re also easy to get, just more costly, and dungeon armors aren’t coveted because they’re easy to get just by running dungeons repeatedly. I saw someone complain that the backpack rewards were too easy to get.

The reason why people want these items is BECAUSE they are hard to get. Making them easier to get will only lead to compaints that they have become too common, and before that happens people who get lucky will make hundreds or even thousands of gold from the people who will go on to complain that they wasted their money – both real and game currency.

Tying rarity to RNG may not be the best situation for players, but there are few alternatives and there is no single option that will not lead to complaints.

Personally, I deal with it by not giving a kitten. For lower level toons, I like the Invader weapons you get from the karma seller in the WvWvW home base. I skin new weapons with them as I level and replace them with a better skin if I come across something I like more. At max level find or craft an exotic that you like, and don’t worry about making other people jealous.

1. never liked RNG. more than i hate grinding, i hate grinding with RNG.
2. never liked relying on luck. skill or persistance or even more preferable, cleverness is my preferred methods to get something.
3. The new skins, couldn’t careless if they’re rare or common. I do want them because I like the looks. I’d use any stuff I like even if it cost 1 copper, and is sold by any vendor in any city and everyone and their grandmothers are using it. If I don’t like the looks (like the Fused skins, not my style really) no amount prestige heaped upon it will make me even spend 1 copper in the way of attempting to get it.

I just wasted $200 on these chests….Am really tired of this now. I had to buy over 100 BL keys just to get ONE bloody fused weapon ticket, now $200 (over 1.8k in South African rands which is my currency….) later and all I have to show for it is a bunch of Karka shells and Passion Flowers….

Please Anet, I have just payed for your server costs for a month and gotten next to nothing for it. Your RNG is flawed in so many ways. I have had probably 5 or 6 exotic DROPS since launch, and now after over 100 of these supply crates I haven’t gotten anything remotely useful.

Between that and the lack of Necromancer fixes, my interest in this game is starting to turn into annoyance, which is a pity, because I do actually like the game.

There’s nothing I can do now after already spending the money which is more than a bit frustrating, but what can I do…

Continue to express your disappointed the more they do this and do not spend any more money on it. Like so many people have said before, vote with your wallet. Don’t buy key and boxes.

27 boxes (1 dropped). I got a medium rebreather (great if i ever roll a medium armor class i suppose…) shells, fruit, flowers, a swim booster, several remote mystic forge things, and a ship in a bottle focus. Of all the skins, that ship in a bottle has to be the lamest (imho). I want the sclerites for my necro. If i could buy them i’d buy every one of them for him.

I think so.

I don’t buy something cause no one else has it. I buy something cause I want it, regardless of who else has it. This isn’t some sort of competition to see who can have the rarest items and flex their manhood (or womanhood for you ladies). I buy something cause I enjoy it myself. I don’t care what others think.

Speaking for yourself, sure. I feel the same way. But Anet’s customers span many thousands of different people, how many of them feel the same way? How many want the items because they are rare? How many are obsessed with obtaining them, and how many just like opening boxes to see what they get? The vast majority of them will not read this, and we’ll never know for sure.

I’ve known for a long, long time that the way I feel about things is not an indication of how the human race in general feels. Pretty much the opposite, in fact, I can usually rely on the fact that most people feel very differently about things than I do.

I’m not a fan of locking cosmetic skins behind RNG either, but I accept that it’s the best compromise ANet could have come up with. The skins don’t grant players unfair advantages in the game, and ANet has to keep the money flowing in to pay the bills. These RNG microtransactions are obviously incredibly profitable, or they wouldn’t keep doing it.

If you really feel that strongly against it, don’t buy it. Tell all of your friends not to buy into the chests. If enough people stop buying the chests, ANet will stop making them. (Of course, the problem is that enough people obviously do feel lucky enough to take their chances that this will probably never happen.)

Personally, I liked the SAB system the best. You have chances for a skin drop from farming the dungeon, but you can also accumulate tokens to buy the skin of your choice. It’s the best of both worlds, and I hope that ANet gives more consideration towards structuring future content to that standard.

I stopped spending gems/cash/gold on RNG chests after the Halloween event, and I’m glad I did because those new skins are pretty terrible. (Still no love for hammers, I see.)

No one likes RNG chests, ArenaNet.

I was really disappointed with the RNG screlite or what the heck ever skins. The molten skins were pretty cool, but these are BORING.

And the hammer, oh man, just had to remind me. LOL glad I finally got my Fractal Hammer skin.

Yes they would be, particularly if they were a limited time item. Also if these things were not soulbound they’d be selling for a fortune on the TP, which I can honestly see some people buying gems to be able to afford.
This RNG Bullkitten is just corporate greed that consumers really need to not only avoid participating in, but actively tell the company that they won’t stand for it.
