Let’s not forget that Anet was being praised for removing that grind, or the anger that came from other mmo’s.

Because they force it on you in other ways. I understand they need to make money but if records show plenty of people where throwing money at them for skins, dyes and boosts.

What they are doing now is just crappy.

Buying 100 Rox bows just to destroy them is better than RNG gambling frustration.

I would like to read what Anet think about the drop, basically, they sold the game saying it was Skin oriented and not Power item oriented, so, they game is based on SKINS, making htem nearly imposible to get (if you dont spend 200€ on them) its just stupid, really, its hurting the players, or do we just to carry Ascalonian weapons becouse, stats-wise, they just like legendaries? if the game is really made around skins, make more or make them acesible, its really regretable not being able to trade them

Copied and pasted one of my posts from a vary slimier thread.

This is one thread that everyone should read. I made the mistake, and in a moment of weakness gambled away 36 gold worth of gems. I could have gotten another character slot and a bag slot or six peices of black lion clothing or a skin and a bag slot or two vault panes… whatever with those gems. Instaid i flushed them down the black lion toilet, and have nothing to show for it.
The sclerite is a LIE!!!*
(*I admit to the actual possibility of receiving a skin, but i reject the relevance of such a low practical chance of receiving one. Other threads i have read speculate that the chance of receiving this skin is significantly less then 1%.)

There’s a sucker born every minute and Anet knows this. I’m not one to agree that what they are doing with these boxes is reasonable but you can’t put ALL the blame on them since, as has already been said, there are players with obsessive tendencies who spend hundreds of dollars for the chance to get an exclusive item in a video game. Frankly, the weapons aren’t THAT great that I would spend any money for them (or any store weapon for that matter).

It’s a skin, you don’t need it.

If you want it, start farming/buying. If it’s not worth the trouble than don’t do it. It is not detrimental to your gameplay NOT to have the skin.

I fail to see how this is hurting the playerbase in any way what-so-ever. They’re not giving ascended gear, they’re not giving anything that makes you a better player or gives better stats… it’s just a skin, you don’t need it. You don’t magicly get more awesome because you have a scelerite weapon.

Let me answer your thinking with another users post from another RNG thread. It shows that not everyone thinks like you or values the same things you do. See below:

“I agree with most of what you said, but you worded that last line incorrectly. They are not required to be SUCCESSFUL in the game, but whether or not they are required to enjoy the game is 100% subjective. For some players, aesthetics are a big part of a game and if they find an aesthetic they desire for their character and have no valid way of attaining that item, it can indeed kill their enjoyment of the game.
It would be like a raider being told there is a raid in the game and they have a random chance of getting to play it. You might be thinking “That’s different. That’s actually playing!”. No, it isn’t. That’s what a raider enjoys doing. Aesthetics is what others may enjoy. The way you are thinking about aesthetics, I am thinking about that raid. Me being able to enter that instance doesn’t affect my enjoyment in any way, shape or form, so I wouldn’t care if it was RNG.
Anet added this RNG in with super low chances knowing full well that it would kill the enjoyment of the game for certain individuals. That’s impossible to deny. But it’s that same fact that brings in so much money for them- those people are going to spend spend spend (if they can) to get those items to increase their own enjoyment.
They know those players want their next hit, and Anet is the only provider for them.”

As i said earlier, i agree with you, this game is about aesthetics, putting some TEMPORAL and any PERMANENT (gloves are jsut funny, because you cant get them in ALL your chars) is just sad, i would bother if the RNG was as low as is it now, if it was a dungeong reward from last boss chest, or a tradeablo ULTRA RARE drop from a event from one karka lost in who knows where, but it isnt, is just hurtting not able to see thouse skins moving around, because, sure you can see some molten facility weapons, but… not as much as to say that they really exist, variety makes the game prettier, just seen the same armors and weapons is boring, the world just doesnt grow at all

I agree this is very frustrating with RNG. I decided to try and buy 2 chests but got crap from them no ticket. Otherwise I have been living in Southsun since this event went live and ive yet to get a “single” chest drop while others seem to at least be getting them throughout the day. Its honestly kitten me off.

I got Crab Toss Champion, Completed the full achievement for the tentacle backpiece, and farmed every type of mob in the whole zone for days yet still nothing but blues, green, and 1 yellow rare with tons of magic find. Very very frustrated

Why they make new weapon skins that are nearly impossible to get? I´m sure that even if you buy 1000 crate you dont get ticket.

15 crates opened 1 weapon claim ticket received! Other people have better crates open to weapon tickets received ration then me but most people probably have worse ratio then me. Basically, its not impossible but some people just have rotten luck.

So I propose the introduction of a long and complex series of actions that collectively form a “luck” ritual that improves your chances of getting a weapon claim ticket from the next crate you open. You still have to buy or farm the crate and the chance isn’t 100%, but something like 85% but it would solve the problem of people who just can’t seem to catch the favour of the gods of RNG.

Of course people would still complain because the luck ritual would be too long and even with a 85% chance, some people will not get the weapon skins etc, etc but it would make people feel as if they could do something other then praying to the gods of RNG that their number comes-up.

My brain is shagging under the weight of changes… having six characters was not a good idea!

That’s the general idea. Look at the Wintersday Skins, no one uses them because they were soooo common. It’s been 5 months since Wintersday and the skins are still at less than 10 silver.

The idea behind rare items is to give them value. Yes, putting them in lottery boxes is a way to make money, and yes they are a company that needs to make money to continue to keep the game running, but no one is forcing you to get this skin. If you think it’s unfair or you don’t like the way it’s implemented… the solution is simple, don’t get it.

Are you really comparing winterdays skins to the f/f and the one from southsun? Why not compare them to the halloween event that shield skin still sells for over 200g.The reason why people dont use the winterdays skins are because of how they look not because they are common.

I wont even bring up the sab skins and how many people are using them and anyone could get them. The reason why the new skins are in crates is to make money. It has nothing to do with trying to keep them rare.

I was going to say the same thing. Its because how the skins looked, not rarity.

The RNG is a big problem for the player base. There was a big fuss over the Molten weapon skins for this reason. The exact same issue. Do not think people are going to take it so lightly. Those who really care or understand the game understand why this is a problem.

It took me less than 10 crates to find a ticket. Since then I have been helping my brother get a ticket. We finally got one yesterday after about 400 crates opened…Most of the crates were bought with gold to gems also so it was an expensive ticket. We probably won’t participate in any other rng boxes in the future due to the fact that it is solely based on luck and the drop rate seems to be getting worse on each ticket that comes out.

I am sorry, I seem to have given the wrong impression. I did not mean to imply my ratio of 15:1 was bad. I know it’s a very good ratio and that I was very lucky. Especially compared to my Fused Weapon skin ratio which was something like 70:1. What I mean was that as good as my ratio is for sclerite weapons, other people have better ratios and other people have far, far worse. Unfortunately, that’s just RNG. It’s neither good nor evil but it is a jerk (who sort of loves me but not as much as he loves some of my guildmates)!

I don’t think the probability changes based on weapon tickets/weapon skins in circulation. I could be wrong and certain Anet would be able to keep track of something like this but I think what’s actually happening is just probability in action. The drop rate is probably no more then 5% (yes, I do think it is as high as 5%) and that probability of drop does not change whether you open one crate or 1000. So if you are lucky, your number will come-up a 1000 times, if you are unluckly, your number will never come-up.

My persona experience says that these skins probably have a better drop rate then the Fused Weapons skins, if only because the crate loot drop table is not as cluttered. If you are SEEING less Sclerite weapons around it is because probably because a lot of people LOATHE these skins and so aren’t going after them. They are just not as popular as the Fused skins were. Less people trying = less skins in the community. At least that’s what I think.

Yes, i don’t have to play the game either. Your point?

you made it for me.

You still have none. The argument “it’s not obligatory so you can just not do it” is completely useless for any game. Nobody is forcing me to play it, that’s true – but still it’s not a very wise business decision to discourage people from playing.

That’s the whole point, obviously. Legendaries have become way too common tbh, because they’re so quick and easy to get. We need less common weapon and armour skins, so if you got some of them, you do stand out from the crowd.

No one uses the Wintersday skins because they were ugly to look at, it had nothing to do with how common or rare they were, they just look bad so no one wants them period..

Really? Because I very rarely see any legendary items other than Twilight.

These days I hardly ever see anyone using Halloween or Wintersday skins, certainly there are fewer chainswords (great or regular) than there are Twilights. Frankly I’d like to see a construction route for RNG skins akin to the legendary path (but less complex … a bit more like upgrading the sclerite backpack) so that people can grind to make the skins they want.

You’re contradicting yourself – people should be responsible for their own actions, except that Anet should tell them not to spend so much money?

They are not forced to spend anything, I’ve spent less than $250 on this game since it was released, including copies of the game for my wife and I.

If someone walks into McDonald’s alone and orders a large Big Mac meal, and another Big Mac, does the cashier say “oh no, you’re too fat already, you can only have a salad.” They are happy to take your money and give you what you want. It’s up to you to control those urges and say when you’ve had enough.

I completely agree with you. If I see a new commercial about some new type of dish or sandwich at a restaurant they make it available for a price and I can eat as many as I like.

This game I play came out with a new weapon skin I wanted. So I went to work and made a lot of money went to the game store and to my surprise the weapon is not available for a price. Yet it is available at a gamble but I am not guaranteed to get it no matter how much money I spend. The item is also not farmable from mobs either. I have been told it will drop from mobs yet I have not seen one drop yet and I have been farming mobs since day one at least 5 hours a day. But the rate is so high its not considered farmable when you have a limited time. People play this off on the game needs income for new content. Read once and a while, they already make enough money to support the game w/o adding the rng boxes. The rng boxes are simply greed and a risk. The game has seen the enormous income from rng boxes so its hard to give that money up. All we can hope for is the current person in charge makes his millions and quits and the next guy to come along has some idea on how to treakittens customers and build a long lasting customer base before we all move on to the next rng game.

Yep, agree here too – if you introduce something in the game, it’s reasonable to make people work hard for it. It’s NOT reasonable, however, to make people work hard for a random chance of getting something.

Change up the mechanic ANET, as you can see, some people are getting the tickets on their first or even 10th try, and some people aren’t getting them on 70+.

There’s a serious problem.

You’re playing the wrong game.

You want to play a game that puts an emphasis on aesthetics. GW2, while it cares about aesthetics to a degree, is more instead about gameplay.

You don’t need the shiny new skin of the month to enjoy the game, objectively. The game is about gameplay.

Now, there is something Anet can learn here though. Something that will make them TF2 income; people will pay for exclusive skins, RNG-free.

Such as Roxx’s bow and quiver or Braham’s shield and mace as RNG-free straight up purchases.

BLC’s and crates need to have a decent chance of rewarding the RNG gambler. They need to be very cheap purchases in relation to the realistic chance of getting good bounty.

There’s a balance here to be struck, TF2 pulls it off well enough with their crates.

Here’s something else they do: They offer the contents of the gamble without the gamble… at a premium.

The gamble for such skins should be cheap. The actual skins should cost quite a bit more.

In this way, you encourage the “i feel lucky” crowd purchases and if they need the skin that desperately, they can buy it for quite a bit of coin, for a limited time.

Rare skins should be rare. Many TF2 items can never be obtained again after their initial release and time in the store.

Especially sought after items suffer from inflation as a result: GW2 doesn’t have to worry about this because such items can’t be traded.

It’s not unfair since every weapon or item shares the same stats as any other item or weapon in the same tier.

The difference is entirely cosmetic, ergo, irrelevant. It’s just a nice little thing to have. It’s not the emphasis.

But for the pedants and the compulsive, and the occasional savvy consumer who may just really fancy the skin, money in your pocket.

Make it in such a way that people who would exploit this for profit can’t make any, and for people that want to skip the RNG, have that option to do so.

In this way you reward your loyal fanbase who’s on this game like butter on toast and preserve it for people who come later.

Or don’t especially care about aesthetics but want to remain relevant.

But yeah, don’t make all new aesthetic options store only. Throw your non-store using gamers a bone every now and then.

Keep rewarding and thinking about your gamers who don’t use the store not because they don’t want to, but because they can’t for whatever reason.

You guys have been really good about that so far. Keep content rewarding for them as well.

The initial Southsun Cove event back in November was an awesome example of that.

Things like the molten gloves from F&F, the unique back pieces from the Southsun Cove story that you can earn, all these are great.

Go pleas read avout GW1 and GW2 when they told that the game was SKIN based and not a GRIND FEST game type, its not stats wise, its just they told us the game was about Aesthetics, so you didnt have to worry about stats, dont talk about the WoW like mentality were the stats is what make the item relevant or importanto, and BTW being rare and being imposible and not even accesible anymore, is not the same, really people like you will make the game boring, running CoF skins even after the 4 years of the game running, because, stats wise, is irrelevant.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. It is not gamebreaking to not have a rare skin. I personally was lucky enough to get the molten jetpack drop during flame and frost. Did I really have to work for it? No. Was it luck? Yes. Am I super OP now because I have it? Not at all. I am grateful however that it was very rare to get because I don’t see a 100s of other people running around with it, which makes my character look unique to others. Do I feel that my luck is unfair to others? No, because I will likely not get the same drops that they get during their time playing the game.

Gamebreaking? so lets stick with CoF skins for the rest of the gamelife, just, it isnt relevant to get more than that because its not needed or better, why bother to take more skins? they are not relevant at all, give me the stat grind fest that we all feel like is needed to change the items

Agree with Deathdance.

It’s pretty idiotic for everyone to be saying “you’re playing the game wrong” and “you don’t need new skins, it’s all about gameplay and dungeons blah blah”.

Everyone plays the game for their own reasons, so you can’t say that people wanting a skin are doing it wrong.

The arguments aren’t about which game aspects are the right to attain, it’s that attaining certain parts are being made nearly impossible for some because of RNG and a limited time event.

If you’re going to introduce an aspect of the game that you want people to work to attain (whether it be dungeons, or guild missions, or gear, or titles, or ANYTHING) give them a reasonable chance to attain it, not based on RNG that can totally screw a number of people who have bad luck, despite the hours and hours they dump into it.

If ANET did this with legendaries, people would be losing their minds. This is a smaller scale of the exact same principle. Legendaries are difficult to attain, but at least with hard work and enough time, you can get them done by your own efforts (lets not talk about wvw map complete).

Been doing southsun since yesterday and got two southsun crates. the second one had a scarlet weapon claim ticket. I hope this makes you all mad because your complaining about random chances being too random because you want to be guarenteed to get it, but it isn’t the point. It’s a rare weapon that you don’t really have control over whether you get it or not. Farming more or playing more or buying more from the gemstore won’t guarentee you getting it. That’s the beauty of random chance.

I personally enjoy getting random weapons like this. It feels special. I know that not any little jabroni can go and get it from grinding and only a certain amount of people will have it. And for me, this system works better for me. SAB had the same thing, but they also had the ability to farm currency for it. Well I didn’t have the time to get all the babbles or whatever they’re called so I couldn’t get one of those sweet hologram weapons. I didn’t get lucky that event, but i did this event and that’s the luck of the draw i guess.

But I don’t condone this for legendaries because the grind is so absurd it’s an impressive feat. Legendaries need to keep their reputation of being hard to obtain through a lot of time and work.

LOL of course “this system works better for me”. You got a ticket on your second crate. And you’re proving everyone’s point – it’s completely random. No matter how much grind you put in, you theoretically wont be rewarded for your efforts.

I have had several crates drop, I have gotten 24 I think so far. I don’t spend hours upon hours doing it and with the buff my magic find is about 264%, I have gotten loads of Yellow gear and one Exotic. Tons of green, some blue, several dyes including one rare, and all the other misc stuff.
From the crates I mainly got Karka shells and Passion flowers although I also got on top of the normal: 1 Mystic Forge Consortium thing, 1 potion of some type and a shoulder skin for heavy armor.
It is possible to get a weapon ticket I think if I kept trying but I was lucky enough to get a fused weapon skin from last month and I am quite happy with that one.

Any content added to a game should be accessible for any player willing to play for it if its getting a raid together or simply putting hours of play time in or buying it from the cash store. This content is being restricted from me because I have bad luck.

So basically, game sticks to the same skins to everyone, so a year has nearly passed and just a new pair of glovess and some backpacks that you can see as a “evolve” or a “grow” step of the game, sad no real variety in game, nor weapons nor Full armors, looks like we just have to ask F&F event guys to do the work, and not let the “other teams” do the work, besides just fire the guy who said “lets puto thouse weapons on crates and sell them” he clearly doesnt play the game in normal servers, just on their private ones for testing.

Yo, derpy. I read the post and meant what I said. I meant nobody can go and obtain it. There is no amount of work or smart play that will give you the item. Compared to legendaries in which you know the exact steps you have to take in order to get it and know how long it will take you to get it, this item there isn’t a guarantee let alone the possibility for some people. Sure finding crates and grinding helps, but it more just happens if it happens.

Now I’m no hardcore gamer. Lengendaries are far out of my reach and most temporary living content items are out of my reach. But, RNG items are still a possibility for me and are still special because no matter how hard some people try for it, a limited number of people will get it. And this is proven by your claim about farming forever for something, sorta like the heroin dragon. It’s not something meant to be farmed for.

I feel some people are just too hardcore and competitive to see why this is something some people like. They don’t like it when people who don’t play as much and good get something cool and they don’t.

Anet added this RNG in with super low chances knowing full well thakitten would kill the enjoyment of the game for certain individuals. That’s impossible to deny. But it’s that same fact that brings in so much money for them- those people are going to spend spend spend (if they can) to get those items to increase their own enjoyment.
They know those players want their next hit, and Anet is the only provider for them.”

Yes, because, obviously, box gambling is all about gameplay.

It’s not by any stretch of the imagination.

You can spend the rest of your time in game and not worry about a single BLC or crate, ever. You choose to play the game that way… and then blame the game for it.

Think about that.

If you can’t enjoy this game without box gambling, if you can’t leave the box gambling alone, you may have a problem.

You may be done with this game if the sum of your in game time is box gambling.

D.D : “The look of Guild Wars 2 is stylized. We’re going for a painterly, illustrated aesthetic. Everything in our world feels handcrafted and artisanal. We treat our environments as if they are characters themselves.”

The game world is beautiful. Likewise characters are gorgeous. The world is crafted to the end of being a “character” and that’s a statement to that end.

They did very well, it’s a beautiful-gorgeous game.

This does not say “Our game is all about aesthetics. Aesthetics are everything, gameplay be kittened”.

You’ll need to do better then that. I knew the manifesto said these things. This is not evidence that proves your position that the game is aesthetic first, gameplay whatever.

There are many beautiful, but otherwise horrible games. GW2 is not one of them.

Points on improving your English though. I actually understood most of what you were trying to say this time. Still a difficult read, but better then last time.

AS i said before, go see ALL the videos, not going to state everything if you havent see them, really “need to do it better” ? no, not at all, you just proved that you didnt see them all just because you asweer to the only thing i stated, really, i didnt state ANY video and you dont even mention them to prove other thing? its nice to see how you do not prove your point in any way just ansewring to the phrases they state you, and basically about my way of typing english i didnt even care to put the words right not to event put the vocals and silabes on the right way, because you just prove that you cant state anything more out of the words i put on the reply, really, go and came with any of your arguments based on what ANET said.

Go and try stating something yourself out of my just 2 phrases about the game, try stating your arguments based on what they say on videos, really so sad, do it better.

Talking about the way someone types? whats next? a debate about our age? gender? even where are we born? so sad, trols “gonna” trols, hard to get anywhere with someone that tries to be o “on the ride” makeing the others look they arent, without proveing what he sais is true, go get somewhere that says ANET is the way you talk, i do it before, just state 2 out of ALL the thing out there.

If you expected to say every phrase on every video so you can prove them worng, without you saying any about your statements, so mature, try arguing in a more brainly way than the politics do.

Update – got 5 more crates over the last 2 days, with nothing but crap in them.

0/35 on the tickets from the crates, with countless hours of grinding.kittenRNG

I… have to take that whole improving your English thing back now. Don’t take it personally.

I’d love to respond to you, but I can’t make sense of what you’re saying. I’m sorry.

Trying my best I get the idea that you’re saying you don’t agree with me, I’m a troll, and you don’t have to provide any honest evidence for your claims because reasons and… babelfish stuff.

Hmm.
