I’d be disappointed if she was. She strikes me as a filler villain.

Yeah, that’s why I am asking for clarification. So I can know “Should I be disappointed or not”.

I would say no.
Since they actually told us that it would be someone we recognized and Scarlet is a new character.

Krall Peterson – Warrior

Anet has yet to answer this question.

Hopefully we can all agree that if they don’t give us an answer for 20 more hours, we can freely assume that she’s the nemesis and be tremendously disappointed.

I’m only speculating, however, it’s Lazarus the Dire pulling the strings.

That’s what I’m personally hoping for as well. I just find it hard to believe, that such an openly insane person would be able to lead a functioning allied army like this. If there was someone else working behind the scenes, someone a bit more calm, collected, and more experienced, I would have a much easier time believing that.

Better story? And what, involve the White Mantle cultists? I’m not sure if he would really use them again, since they turned out to be such horrible minions the last time he did. Their ineptitude caused the total extinction of his race, since they weren’t able to stop the player in gw1. Plus, he’s out to kill off all humans and asura.

I would rather, personally, have the White Mantle and Mursaat storylines separate. Lazarus’ story being that he is out to totally destroy the races, or at least the humans and asura. The WM’s would center on the further corruption of the ministry, and it bleeding into and manipulating the common folk/bandits. All the while, they cling to their faith of an absent and/or uncaring “gods”, the Mursaat. It would mirror the human and six god relationship all to well.

I’m only speculating, however, it’s Lazarus the Dire pulling the strings.

I’ve recently put stock into this theory because Scarlet is said to have gone insane after seeing “The Eternal Alchemy”. It’s entirely possible scarlet actually saw lazarus(perhaps her process to see the alchemy instead gave her sight of mursaat) or lazarus brainwashed her into believing she had seen the eternal alchemist. remember, in gw1 saul is also in awe at the mursaat. The second reason i believe this is because the two characters also accomplish inhuman feats. Scarlet graduates three asuran colleges while saul manages to push back the unstoppable charr.

If anyone sees any wholes in my theories please let me know : )

@Pacifica

I was thinking along the same lines as well. The “seeing the Eternal Alchemy” was something akin to Ascension, and it could have gave her True Sight. That might have made her the target of Lazarus’ machinations.

Sadly, that is still wild speculation without further details…

That’s assuming the recognizable aspect of the personal nemesis would be in universe, and not just in this particular game. Someone new to the Guild Wars universe would most certainly not recognize Lazarus.

But then what’s left? The way Scarlet acts makes me believe that the bigger force, and thus personal nemesis, is of a whole different level than the regular NPC’s. However, I can’t put a realistic fitting character in this position =/

Some afterthoughts I had to add:

Vorp expresses doubt that what she saw was the eternal alchemy because according to him the eternal alchemy isn’t something you can see.

Scarlet states that the aetherblades follow her because they “like being alive”(paraphrasing). in guild wars 1 the mursaat slaughtered an entire group of krytans who were working for them, making this employment of fear make sense.

This is a good point, the recognize statement would only apply to guild wars 1 players. However, I think that would sort of be something they could pull off. Otherwise, it would have to be one of only a few characters that are prominent in the game so far

Well, judging from Anet’s silence, I believe it’s fair to assume that Scarlet is, indeed, supposed to be the nemesis.

Which is massively disappointing, because she’s one of the worst characters I’ve ever come across in a MMO ever. If Anet sees her as a nemesis to our dragon-slaying characters, then I see her as nothing but a massive insult. It doesn’t help that she is just as incompetent as the rest of the Aetherblades.
