Anybody else feeling this? I am doing my personal story, I find that my instance is a few seconds away from my previous one, but it requires me to be 2 or three levels higher. So I have to run around the map and complete hearts or go to a different map all together and grind out a few levels to continue.

I don’t enjoy typical quests in MMO’s and that’s what Heart events are. I thought I remembering hearing that you can just do your personal story or open world or both. But just doing the personal story is next to impossible. In GW1 the story was on a pace from point A to point B. In order to reach point B, you had to go through 1,2,3 different areas to get to your next story part. Why is this not implemented in GW2? It’s more of a suggestion than a complaint. But I would really like to be pulled through a map to go to the next point instead of trying to find something to grind to continue my story line. Either that or up the experience gained doing your PS more where I don’t have to grind a few levels. Again just a suggestion to improve the gameplay experience and not having any kind of down time. Down time in a game is normally bad.

Example : My PS put me in a new map at the level range from 45-55. I was lvl 43. In order to do the next PS I had to be 45. I did it at 44. The next PS wants me to do it at lvl 47. I grinded out the map and am now at 46. Did the PS, the next one wants me to be at 50. I am 46 and did most the map already? So I have to find some way to grind 4 more levels.

Any other suggestions to help Anet make GW2 the best game out there? I know I can explore, WvW or craft. But I did explore, I don’t like WvW and crafting. There is also the case that this game is only a few weeks old and will improve.

Other suggestions :
1. LFG function. Story or Ex mode for dungeons.
2. Guild Halls, better ones base on Inf points.
3. Romances or LI’s.

I agree with you tbf, To me the game does feel a bit grindy between story missions, even though I love exploring and this game makes exploring a hell of a lot easier (which could be a bad thing) Gw1 was mental for getting 100% :P I think everyones just a bit shocked because GW2 is a lot more different than GW1 and we weren’t expecting that much to change. Bad or Good? only the player can ultimately decide but for a freemium game i’m not moaning.

Guild halls will eventually come but won’t fit into the baseline story, they could create a guild storyline, that would be fun.

Romances could be ok but not really needed in a MMO, but if they did then you could buy items off the store with gems to increase rep, everyone wins then.

If they didn’t pace the story out so much then it would have probably been better but then would this lead to people not exploring which is what Anet wanted?

At least we get to level up 5 races for each story and then do the differen’t options of each race for a slightly different story :P

I totally agree with you man. I have found myself not even playing after reaching 41, it’s just not fun anymore. I enjoy my personal story and all but I am sick and tired of grinding 3 levels or 2 levels to do 5-10 minutes of a story, then told to go to another location that requires an additional 2 to 3 levels.

I did also like in GW1 how it was perfectly set up in this instance and I never found myself grinding to complete akittenstory. To say the least, personal story was very poorly implemented… at least for those who us who don’t want to scan the map for events/hearts non stop.

Thank you! lol.

People tell me that MMO’s are not for me because I don’t like to do quests. Well I am a GW1 fan so maybe thats the problem.

You’re not supposed to just be able to grind through your personal story. It doesn’t even make sense. The story is spaced out through the game up until lvl 80. You’re supposed to use the personal story to break up your leveling. Your idea that you should be able to just jump into each subsequent quest would imply you want to get to level 80 simply by doing your story.

What I actually would prefer is for them to space the story out, where I am required to move through a map in order to get from point A to point B then I could level up on the way to point B. Right now I am getting story line quests seconds away from each other and they are requiring me to be 3-4 levels higher. So instead of progressing, they are telling me I have to run around this map or a different map and then come back later.

I guess they hoped you’d enjoy “the world” more. Which isn’t the case if you feel participating in it is a grind. I personally enjoy going through the zones, but I also am the guy randomly clicking NPCs to see what they have to say. So it’s deffinatley a “to each his own” case.

I haven’t experienced that on any of my characters yet, though I do have a mid-30s PS mission that I couldn’t solo and leveling doesn’t help as much. The problem is my gear is out dated. :/ Still, I love the stories I’ve been through.

Yeah I get that all the time too. That or the people who say “you’re supposed to be doing other stuff during this all” blah blah. The point remains GW2 dropped the ball as far as this goes. I should just reach level 80 by crafting and go back and finish the story, because I am sick and tired of chasing events/doing hearts.

I’ve also had this problem, and I think I know WHY it’s a problem. The quests are worded as if you should go immediately from one to the next – I even have a ‘time limit’ on my next Norn quest segment!! And yet, that’s two levels away, so there’s no kittening way that I can go straight to it. That IS a writing flaw, I think, or at least an unfortunate combination. I get where they’re going, providing you a consistent path upwards, but the only times I feel like I can relax and just level are when I’ve completed a whole story segment.

im not focusing on the story as my main goal so when i actaully get around to doing them i can knock out 3 or 4 quests and still be a higher level then they ask for, just take some time and try crafting or WvW its fun and great xp

I kind of agree, but at the same time, I think the way it works now is for the best.

If you don’t want to grind between quests, only do them when you’re at a high enough level to clear out a whole segment (about 10 levels). Sure, the first rewards will be below your level (I think?), but at least you don’t have to pause for five hours right between the undead advancing on a city and them attacking it. It’s not perfect, but…

I prefer to do the quests at about my level, and then “pretend” I went to the next quest as fast as I could. Seems to work for me. Sometimes I feel a bit irritated that I can’t continue the story right away, but I think that says more about the quality of the story than the progression rate of it.

I haven’t really found that to be an issue.
I have a lv73 and a lv40.
The lv73 didn’t start on the PS until lv70. The lv40 did it as they “came up”. For the lv40 I’ve been mostly at or one level below. This included 100% map completion for whichever map the missions were taking place. The purpose of that is for exp, crafting material from completion reward and to avoid having to redo the map later on at a higher level which results in implicit penalties.

If you bought the game just for the PS then you have probably wasted your money because it is definitely not one of the better part of this game.

On the other hand I definitely do NOT recommend the ‘get to high/max level then start PS’ route unless you are confident that you can do every mission with 1 try. That route involves a disproportionate cost for failure. Even if you don’t fail you’ll end up wasting either time or money going between the racial main city and where the missions take place.
