I am tired of story missions and false recommended levels. *SPOILERS*
Doing this one for 5 times already and died twice, still unable to complete it. With all level 10 fine gears at level 10. Now I understand why there are so many in my guilds who have never come back after the first few days. Anyone who has experienced this would possibly just give up on the game with the impression of WTF.
The worst part of all story quest is, you have to grab aggro somehow to start the encounter. But once you grab the aggro, it is extremely hard to drop it. All mobs would try to kill you to death, even if you only hit once on a mob or just approach to let them notice you without even dealing any damage.
I already have two level 80s and I had few problems with my warrior. And I did this with a guardian in BWE and it is still doable though very hard. You can see the point here. They are both heavy armor classes and can take the hits. The golem is so f**king slow and deal so little damage that it cannot grab and hold aggro at all. And this happens in so many story quests, frequently you are paired with a medium or light armor class who cannot tank at all. So if you cannot tank, you are in trouble.
This give us the conclusion. Most story quests are balanced with a heavy armor class. Very little consideration are made for the other two armored classes.
I wonder how many players they have lost from this insanity of story quests and I am very sad to see this still happening after one month of release.

I whole heartedly agree. It’s probably the number one worst thing about Guild Wars 2.
In Guild Wars 1, if you encounter a difficult mission/quest, simply change your tactics, or your allies. In Guild Wars 2, tough! Do it!
I’ve already rerolled several characters due to personal stories. My Human “Street Rat” tried to save her friend, but got slaughtered for days trying to get past the FIRST bad guy. After posting my complaints, being told, “Yeah, it’s hard, but it’s doable. I did it last night.” about a gazillion times, I found a video on youtube that showed about 3 or 4 mobs after the first goon, and that you had to be spastic to do it. So, I rerolled.
My Sylvari Ranger tried joining the Durmand Priory. She got her pet and weapons taken away, was handed a sporatic great sword, and forced to go against a god. After dying from levels 28 to 35, I rerolled her too.
My Human Thief has gotten to visit Orr. She’s been trying since level 55 (now level 65) to get past that quest. I go up against this thing that I can barely scratch, it spins and knocks everyone back, and it’s completely healed before I can make another attack. I’ve given up on doing her personal story. Might try it again next year, if it’s ever fixed by then.
Let’s not forget Dungeons. I’ve been trying since level 30 (now level 65) to finish the 1st dungeon. (We spent 5 hours last night, and barely dented the next to last boss’.)
Edit:
And just for the record… I’m REALLY getting sick of hearing, “Yeah, it’s hard, but it’s doable. I did it last night.” Who cares if someone, with whatever race/ profession/weapon combo they have has done it? EVERYONE, of ANY RACE, with ANY WEAPON, should be able to do THEIR Personal Story!
I mean, it feels like they tested the game with level 80 characters who were equiped with Legendary gear, and then set the quest levels to what THEY felt was challenging. To me, they should’ve tested it with gear purchased from vendors only, using every race, every profession, and every weapon, not just their favorites.
It’s so annoying! I keep getting the feeling I should be playing a Warrior or a Mesmer with a Greatsword instead of playing what I enjoy playing.
Edit:
And yes, it’s a little bit of a rant. But, after playing Guild Wars 1 for almost 5 years, and anticipating Guild Wars 2 for most of that time, I’m upset with Guild Wars 2.
(I do apollogize for the rant.)
Edit:
The single most important thing that has kept me playing Guild Wars 1 has been the story. Being able to replay it, do parts I missed, being led through the countryside, it made the world fun. The various areas, side quests, etc. gave plenty to do in the interim.
In Guild Wars 2, the story seems to be an added thought, it doesn’t really matter, and you have to explore the areas first in order to get to a high enough level to do any of your story. There is no sense of awe, no sense of purpose. It’s just a collection of odd-ball renown hearts, with a really wierd idea of a story kinda wedged in where ever it could be squeezed in.

Oh yes, that mission is the horror.
My first character I joined the Vigil but gave up during the level 70 Fort Trinity fight. As it turned out I was apparently at the END of the fight but by the time I realized where/what I was supposed to do to take the place back, all the NPCs were dead. I didn’t want to go through it all again.
I should also note that this was the 1st week of the game and I was hitting the level 70+ Orrian open world war. All undead, no hearts, few players. I stopped playing for a week or so.
My 2nd character I decided to make a tank-type thinking that was a better fit for the Vigil. I was still a fair bit bored with many of the combats, basically wave after wave of slug-fest fighting but I got to the fight with Zaitan. That is the only one I haven’t done because I read the rewards were screwed and the fight was dull to boot.
My 3rd character is a DoT/Tough Ranger and I was shocked to see the that even though I was doing the Order of Whispers, I am seeing the same fights, seemingly. At level 50 and 59 (storyline) I was just alarmed to see good ole Claw Island and the exact same fight as I did in the Vigil. Now at 62 (storyline) I am at Concordia and about to head to the ruins. I had to log out.
Is the rest of the storyline the same, more or less? In the Vigil I Chose the Hylek and the Charr Tanks but this round I will do the same battles with Skritt (dear god…) and human mercenaries?
Someone please let me know. If they are the same fights as it appears to be, I am done with the storyline after the level 60 (the 400 pt guild influence is nice and everything before that is mostly Order related, other than Claw Island). Any information is appreciated.

In areas of difficulty, have you tried exhausting all possible weapon combinations and approaches, using any advantages you can get?
Using vendor armor? Try crafted blues/greens off the Auction House instead, they’re cheap and much more effective than white NPC vendor gear.
Locking yourself into one weapon choice out of preference? Don’t. One solution does not fit all.
And what you may call being “spastic”, I may call being skillful and quick on the keyboard. A little practice on training dummies in the Heart of Mists never hurts.
If you want to play your way, go for it. Just don’t expect things to be any easier, because some missions are still tough even when being “spastic” as you so call it.
Called teamwork.
1) Find a partner.
1) Do the mission.
3) ????
4) Proceed with story.
It’s a PERSONAL story. If they want you to team up, then it should be a dungeon, not a personal story. That’s bad design.
Not having trouble so far on the personal story with my ranger (level 50). But my favorite toon is my elementalist, and I’ve been dying a ridiculous amount of times in the Rat-tastrophe segment. The repair costs for dying are pretty high in this game too.
I am two levels above recommended for Rat-tastrophe and I cannot complete it.
Does it matter if you do the personal story? Or can you just skip it? From what I’m reading it only gets worse for elementalists.
They either need to make the NPCs in the Personal Story stronger or the mobs weaker depending on profession. Cloth wearers simply cannot face dozens of mobs at once, or wave after wave of mobs with no break.

You can’t skip sections but you can elect to not do the personal story. I am at that point as I noted in my earlier post. I’ll do up through 59 so I can get the 400pt scroll for guild influence (maybe) but the rest is ….no. I’d rather grind the levels and/or do DEs.
Although I don’t find the acting in the personal story missions to be too good, I can’t say I’ve had many problems with difficulty. Some of the earlier group fights were a little scary, and during those fights I’d often switch to my rifle or bow and cover friendly NPCs. If I got knocked down, I’d focus on a mob on low hp to be able to rally and get back into the fight.
I’m currently 80 in Orr with a hammer/rifle crit/control spec warrior who sided with the Vigil. So far Orr is the only zone that I have 100% completed, it’s a pretty freaking amazing place and in my opinion the only zone outside of the dungeons that actually gives you a sense of epic struggle and danger. Definitely recommended!
