Sovereign Eye of Zhaitan
Even worse than this annoying fight was the reward at the end of it. I was thinking “Oooh for a fight like this I bet I am going to get something really cool!” instead I get three items that could have come from any Black Lion Chest. =\
Absolutely agree. This was hands down the most incredibly tedious and boring fight ever. The first time the thing teleported away I chased it, and it teleported back to the center.
Naturally, the second time it teleported, I stayed in the center thinking it would eventually come back. No. You have to run all the way over to trigger it to teleport back?
The whole fight felt like trolling to be honest.

What’s even worse is his pitiful damage potential. He can very easily and very quickly place 25 stacks of vulnerability on you, and still does pathetic damage.
I quite liked the different mechanics and phases. However as others have highlighted the fight feels artificially long and there feels no threat what so ever to my health.
I would have preferred a much shorter but far more dangerous encounter where my health might actually drop for a moment or too long enough to make me think.
Just another disappointing personal story mission unfortunately.
Well. Try doing it and during the final cutscene the game crashes and you have to do it all over again, then during the fight you get and error stating that the game has run into a graphics error and just hangs.
Gonna try it again now just to get it over with. Hope nothing bad happens. :/
I actually really enjoyed this fight. It reminded me of fighting Khilbron in Prophecies, but on a more difficult and epic scale. The only issue I had was that he disappeared a bit too quickly on the edges (he waits until you arrive/hit him in 2 of the 3 spots he goes to, before disappearing again) and that if you distance yourself too far (leave the room) then his health automatically and completely reset. When I did the mission, I was having issues with doing enough damage due to my skill bar, so I backed up to redesign it, excepting him to slowly regen like everyone else. Instead, instant reset and I wasn’t out of combat mode yet.
But it wasn’t a big deal, really. And once I changed my build, he went down far faster than before.
I disagree on the “no threat to your health” – I got downed a few times, and I was specced for power, toughness, and condition damage. Only didn’t wipe because Trahearne kept reviving me.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
The music at the end is fantastic.
I did the 2xs. The first I had him at maybe 20% and got hit m by the shooting orbs of his ghost minions, which you can dodge/jump over. (I believe I took to using my GS at the time they popped, dodging the first few orbs and then doing a Leap of Faith to get close and force them to disappear).
The 2nd time it was just run and hack, hack and run. Tediously time consuming. That was the real point of frustration the 1st time around. Oh no…..the time lost….
+1000000000000.
A lot of personal story fight Frustrated me to madness (anet devs, take a deep breath, think logical what feelings a game is supposed to give a player, and compared if to my feeling. If you see what’s wrong, please do something about it). You get ambushed, without warning by 6+ mobs, that can two shot you. You dodge like madness, you time like madness, you move like madness so you MAYBE can survive that fight. What’s the fun of this Anet? I understand dodge system, and I started liking it. But making are ONLY way to really mitigate damate in Orr useless (the mobs even damage me in the middle of a dodge role, and it wanst an aoe, just a normal melee attack), then how must we survive? What’s the holy grail you guys seem to think that exists, but we players dont know about?
This mission made me give up on story mode. My favorite part of guild wars 1 (story mode). I love making new characters just to replay the nice story. In guild wars 2 I Despice the story mode combat. Can you believe that for a game that’s supposed to be revolutionary? Challenge is nice, but making essential game mechanics useless/bugged/glitched so the players die even more easy is crazy anoying.
The biggest source of my frustration is mobs are to smart. Mobs can do almost EVERYTHING. Use environment to safe yourself? Fail, the mobs outsmart you, not needing even jumping to get to your nice kiting position. You dodge? Monster: ‘sorry but that’s not gonna work, I’ll just hit you in the middle of your dodge rol’. Or Spectral Orr weapons… You slowly approach, slowly try to pull them, afraid of the nightmare starting. Suddenly a huge barrage wave, with 3-5 arrows, killing you. If you dont double evade 0,5 sec after they start it you are dead before the battle started, yay!
Or this The maximum amount of stunbreakers is 3 but then your build is not balanced. Same for Condition removal. poison is incredible deadly, and hard to remove. If you finally use your precious condition removal, wich long cooldown, they restack 40 second of poison on you, nice right? And then on top of it you have to survive 12 sec cool down stuns. You can avoid/break the first ones maybe, but then you are fully at the mercy of a monster without a SINGLE tool to outsmart the monster. Lame.
Solo gameplay, downed is useless. There were times I was downed for 5 minutes, trying very very very very hard to get up. But every single time a SINGLE MONSTER HIT stops the healing, puts ALL OTHER SKILLS on cool down, makes you loose quickly more health, and you have to respond fast with the heal before you die, but then right when you think yay I might get up, OUCH another single LOUSY HIT, but the lousy hit is enough to kill you.
Basically downed = only chance to survive is when monster have 1-2% hp. Downed skill 1 does WAAAY to few damage (mesmer). The moment a mob has you tagged and has more then 5% hp there is simply NO WAY to get up again. You can’t. It’s totally useless. You are fully defeated the moment they hit you once in downed. Another very frustrating part of the game.
This mission is the best and most extreme example of this frustration battles/overpowered monsters. Again I like challenges, I think dungeons are ok with their difficulty level. But Orr monsters (Especially groups) and the Eye of zaitan in this mission are way to powerfull.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
as a ranger pet helped a lot but for a long time it would not attack said it was too far, same for my elite that were wasted twice, i wondered if the distance looked bugged as i thought i was close enough, thraherne did some damage and then died at a spot wher i could not revive him, i was not downed but close pretty often as i was not always able to avoid getting hit, then i ran until i got health back but the eye did not heal meanwhile, it would have been bad if he had done that, i wonder why it did heal as some player here said i did the mish a bout 2 weeks ago
