Choose your monthly achievements
That would be much appreciated. Like not having to do every single thing on the Wintersday achievement list to get the title, that was awesome!
On a semi-related note.
Reading on the newest news bit about how achievement points will actually have a use/reward is pretty exciting:

“We’ll add tokens for your achievement you can turn in to select from a list of rewards, including new reward types like ascended gear and infusions.”
Holy smokes that’ll be awesome.

Agree. I’ll NEVER get the monthly now as I refuse to do jumping puzzles (there’s Nintendo for that) and most of the fractals have that lame stuff in them too. So right off the bat 50% of the requirements are non-attainable unless you suffer through them.
Many people feel the same way about PvP; while I do not I can appreciate their position.
Agree with you on the Fractals, but you do know you don’t have to actually do the jumping puzzles right? Just go to where they are and “discover them”, usually means wandering around the start of it for a minute trying to find where it notices you’re there.
Still annoying for some I guess. I don’t mind that one myself, since you can just hit the 3 in LA each day (or so I hear) on a couple toons, and since WPs are free in town there’s no cost there, just a couple minutes at a time. For me it’s the WvW kills and the Fractals reqs that bug me.

The WvW requirements have been stopping me for months. I did it once, last September, and that was enough for me to know that I’ll never get that achievement again. I won’t even consider doing Fractals because the WvW requirement ensures that the achievement remains out of reach anyway. Sadly, the rationale for the achievement system (getting people to try new things), is actually having the opposite effect. It’s now giving me an excuse not to bother.
Agree. You should have options that you like to do. Might be more of a certain kind, to get the monthly, but I should not be forced to be jumping puzzle guy if I don’t want to.

Exactly. I hate wasted effort. I haven’t touched either Fractals or dungeons for that very reason. And dungeons haven’t even been on there nearly as often as WvW and Fractals, but one really bad experience in WvW trying to do the monthly soured everything that was on that month.
I like the current system, and agree with having a system that tries to get you to do other things. I’m willing to step outside my box to a degree. But the rotation of whats required needs to far better. WvW and fractals need to not be on every month for starters, Fractals and dungeons shouldn’t be on the same month (since Fractals is technically a dungeon), the survivor one shouldn’t be on there ever (given it’s functionality to prevent “abuse”), no more than one really tedious req at a time.
Now, we all have different tastes and tolerances, so no matter what ends up on a given month someone gets the short end of the stick, but that’s why it’s supposed to rotate. I don’t expect to be able to complete the monthly every month, but some would be nice.

So much agreement with this.
I did the WvW requisite once and only because I had every other achievement completed for the monthly. I did not enjoy myself at all. Not only that, but getting that one part of the achievement took longer than getting all of the other ones combined (or at least it sure felt like it).
I’d definitely prefer the route they went with event meta achievements. I was neither forced to do the PvP achievements or the dungeons, there were plenty of other things on the lists to do to get the title that better fit how I actually enjoy playing.
