It seems clear that guild groups are not always fond of having pugs follow them and ruin their plans. This leads to many guild running without their commander icons on.

People have decided that each party should target their commander instead, but thanks to the culling we are losing track of that as well.

So instead how about adding a Guild Commander rank for WvW which can be bought along side the Commander rank. This way the commander can choose if he wants everyone on the WvW map to see their icon, or only guild or alliance (whenever you bring those back) members can see the icon.

Macros, you can use them as long as they arent macros.
Remember to buy the officially endorsed GW2 Steel Series Keyboard, it supports macros!
WvW, we only care if it affects the servers we play on.

There is simply no support for players or guilds that like to run 2-4 groups together doing non zerg activities in WvW.

I’m not sure if arenanet know how frustrating this can be for some players. They need more support for guilds and players who like to field medium size forces and don’t want to run with the zerg.

Easiest solution is allow people to form private squads where the commander pin is ONLY visible to people in the squad. It’s a minor change to implement private squads, but it would serve the purpose we need.

Fully support your idea Omaris…. just don’t think it’s a priority for the Devs anytime soon.

No, how about a private icon for Commander?

You still have to pay 100g, but only people in your squad can see your icon when you turn it private.

That is probably the easiest way to bridge the gap between zerg and medium tactical forces. Unfortunately it’s been advocated since BW1 and Arenanet doesn’t seem to care or choose to change it anytime soon.

False, people were complaining that Commander Icon can’t be removed off the map. Anet changed it so it can.

You can’t retain a squad as a commander without having a pin visible to allies in the zone. You can turn off your pin, but you can’t keep a squad running and use the options available as a commander. Unless this is something new recently I’m pretty sure that’s how it is.

You need to be able to:

- Turn of the pin to all allies (except those invited into the squad)
- Retain all the functions of a commander. Waypoint marking, squad chat, supplyinfo.

The issue raised in the OP is making it easier for guild groups to stick together, follow a guild-leader, and not confuse people on the map. There are a number of solutions:

  • A green commander icon option for guilds, only visible to players representing the guild.
  • Larger group sizes for guilds, with a separate channel. So you can have an Arah team of 15 and a anti-shatterer team of 10, without interfering with each other.
  • Green dots on the map showing all guildies.
  • Different levels of command: small squad, large squad, map-wide strategic squad.

I agree with everything you posted! There are many different guilds and playstyles, as well as different ways for people to have “Fun” and enjoy the game.

Unfortunately we don’t have the in-game tools to coordinate and customize guild or group makeups. The best we can do is use a VoIP without any visual help as the C&S system is not up to par. I think more people need to let the Devs know this is an area we’d like to have a little focus on.

Thanks. These are ideas that other people have been kicking around; I can only take credit for the phrasing.
