If I can't salvage it...
I find this a bind as well, as it is soulbound on purchase, i cant sell it on, even if i never equip it. Also as it cant be salvaged, once i aquire something better, my only option is to have the item cluttering up my inventory or bank (and why would i have that?) or destroy it.
You can throw them in the mystic forge.
It’s the only use I see for outdated karma items =(

You can always use a transmute stone to get the upgrade into a new piece of armor. I’m not sure, but if all you put over into the new armor is the upgrade and not the look of the karma helm, you should be able to salvage it back out.

I use tranmutation stones to retain both upgrade itmes and skins on non-salvageable items all the time.
I’d say just make karma items salvagable. I really see no reason they aren’t. Is there really a worry that people are going to dump a ton of karma to buy an item just to salvage a few resources / upgrades out of it?
or make salvaging a karma item ONLY remove the upgrade and make preexisting upgrades on karma (the ones that come on it when you purchase it) static so people cant just buy karma gear and salvage runes off.
Alternatively adding a new item “Rune Puller” that would only remove upgrades from items and remove saving runes from the list of functions of the salvage kit would be great because very rarely do I want the rune anyway.

I understand this but I can put a rune on a piece of non karma gear and when I get better non karma gear salvage the armor to get the rune back and put it on the new armor.
BUT
If I put that same rune on a piece of KARMA gear its stuck there … permanently no way to retrieve it.
I think the point of this thread is to express a displeasure with loosing an upgrade because you choose to put it in karma gear, and to make a request for a method of at least removing the upgrades we put in ourselves.

The amount of gold you could possibly make from salvaging a Karma item is rediculously low to the point where its negligable, especially since Karma rewards tend to be relatively expensive. How much money are you really going to make from a few chunks of ore? Certainly not enough to be worth the karma cost as a money farming tool.
If the problem is the built-in runes on higher level karma items, then just disallow salaving of those runes (but not player-applied runes, as this topic is mentioning).
I just used an exquisite upgrade in a karma item, now it’s LOST, I cannot savage it. This is not the fist time this happen to me. Seriously annoying. Some upgrades are really EXPENSIVE.
