Aside from the obvious balance changes needed for certain classes, here is a list of important sPvP suggestions. Keep in mind that these changes are not necessarily needed for WvW.

1. Remove the downed state – Since this is small structured teams, when a player dies he should be dead. I love the downed state Idea for PvE, but for competitive PvP you won’t find one person who thinks that the frustrating abilities certain classes have to warp, invis, knock-back, during downed state is fun. (However, I do believe being able to revive a dead teammate should still be included).

2. Allow teammates to ping the minimap – Not everyone has a mic and most people don’t take the time to type things out. It would be nice to warn or bring to attention key areas.

3. Show weapon icons when targeting an enemy – If we are going to learn how to play against certain classes it would be nice to see what current weapon/weapons they have equipped. That way we can start to associate what abilities belong to which weapon for a particular class.

4. Diminishing Returns needed – I don’t see CC as bad in this game as it is in others, but if lined up correctly with certain classes a player can be perma controlled.

5. Give options to join 1v1,2v2,3v3,4v4, Some of us shouldn’t be reliant upon PUGs for success.

6. Slow down the chaos – I’ve played the sPvP for quite sometime now and the 1v1 speed is fairly decent, but when it’s a bigger fight (i.e. 3v3, 4v4) you can’t keep track of who is doing what. The lack of a Global Cooldown only adds to this dilemma.

7. Bigger Maps – To easy for a team who is dominating a map to move from one point to the next.

1/ Absolutely yes, or at least remove the 2nd/3rd ability of everyone.
2/ You can ping the map, I always assumed that people could see it, but I never bothered to ask.
3/ You can generally see what weapons people have, so it’s not overly important, for me at least.
4/ I think the state of CC is fine right now, considering classes all have mutliple stun breakers, and dodging to use.
5/ No, I think smaller then 5vs5 will be very boring, unless they introduce new small maps.
6/ I can’t see how this would work without nerfing all aspects of the game.
7/ Map sizes are fine for 5vs5, 8vs8 does get couded sometimes.

This seemed like a good thread in the Suggestions Forum to re-post what I wrote earlier. I really like the idea of adding a join 2v2/3v3 option for SPvP.

I want to que up with friends and do a few battle Grounds. Why wont it let us? It really needs to be fixed. Yes i know SPVP but we are just wanting to relax and have fun. This needs to be fixed!

You can play with your friends via tournaments. We will continue as well to improve the ability to play with friends in pickup games, but it will always be somewhat limited because we do not want large groups of guilds pub stomping the pick up games.

This is a great goal, Jon Peters. However, there are sub-groups of people that wouldn’t break PuG’s in SPvP. Think about these examples:

- Husband and Wife playing together — Wife doesn’t want to play AGAINST her husband! (This describes my wife, by the way)

- 2 friends playing together in the same room

- Casuals wanting to play together

I have busted my chops in WoW’s Arenas and BG’s to get good at PvP in MMO’s, and it definitely reflects in my GW2 skill. It makes total sense that you do not want me and 4 to 7 of my other friends that are as good as I am to get on vent and steamroll PuG’s hardcore a few nights a week. However, there is a middle ground.

Please allow at least 2 friends to “link” together so they will not be swapped to opposite teams. That would really shore up this problem for a lot of people. If we did get 2 “hardcores” linked together, that is not enough to STEAMROLL pugs all night long. It certainly makes things funner that they can play with a friend, just like everyone else.

Now, I edited this post, because I wanted to add this: Tournaments are not a good alternative for this, because competition and structure are more than millions of casual players that will be playing this game want. I know for myself, in my new role as a dad, I cannot play tournaments. The reason is that i can’t devote (or won’t) the time it will take to run through a tournament just so i can play with my friends and wife without the worry of getting switched to the opposing team.

You can’t make everyone happy, but you should consider my suggestion, because it appeals to a great variety of players, and will make a lot of people happy. Even if we’re playing with 4 of us together, just having the confidence that you can play with at least 1 friend/significant other no matter what is a great consolation.

I hope that somebody reads this and passes it along to devs.

And also, to address OP’s #1 point:

I disagree. Downed state isn’tkitten You don’t get knocked down if you have stability or immunity. Learn to get stable and then stomp. Or you could just keep some AoE up, stun/knock away anyone trying to rez, and/or just single target DPS the dude down and forget stomping.

I have won some clutch 1v2’s because I was able to revive a downed teammate. It’s a pretty cool addition and adds some good depth to the game.

I have no problem with the downed state and I think people who complain about it just get frustrated when they drop someone and then don’t take the time to finish them off. I like the element that rallying in the middle of an intense fight or reviving a team mate to pull through and think it adds a whole level to PvP.

do NOT remove downed state …. it’s a tactical point of surviving and teamplay!

You need to rezz people … they need to rezz you, thats the point! That is WAY MORE important than hitting on an enemy! It’s a tactical decision how to use your knockdowns, and stuff … wether to use shields …

Maybe a decent rework would be nice, but yeah mostly a good thing!

I am also against switching teams and fighting against my Guildmate, if I don’t want to… ok one point 8v8zergfest is also “not how it’s meant to be” …

The DOWNED state will be the sole reason this MMO doesn’t keep me coming back.

PVP
For the most part it works HOWEVER… clearly some profession get an advantage over others with 2 & 3 ability. If anything, it should be another team member that is interrupting the finishing blow (Knock Back / Knock Down / Stun / etc…). They should replace it with 1. Dmg Skill (auto attack); 2. Dmg Skill (on cool down); 3. Ally Benefit Skill (on cool down); 4. Channeled Heal (as is). They should also allow the player to crawl slowly to a safer place (slow enough you can’t get away from the finish move).

PVE
Downed State skills same as above with the current class unique skills (2/3 skills- moved to 5 and 6). I may need to play more at higher levels, but, I am finding the down state in PVE happens way to often. I don’t like being 1 hit or having mobs cho-cho-trained on me or respawning before I can kill a few mobs in the path… etc… I don’t like getting hit for tons of dmg by things that I can’t see (at least give me a chance to dodge).
Healing in this game is not very good. Healing for the most part is also on cool downs. (don’t get me wrong the healing is fine). This brings up a question for Anet if anything. Why have mobs 1 shot players? It is not like players are going to get constant healing to recover for each and every blow.
