Long story short, over the past 2 months, i have had 3 attempts from a hacker to log into my account from Suzhou, China. In one case i changed my password as well just to be safe.

My point is, even if the hackers are not physically in china and are using proxies, it really goes to show that the location is a hotbed for security breaches either way. Could i please see security options in the future for Guild Wars 2 (or any MMO for that matter) that lets you register logins only from a specific country or province?

While i am sure there are some that do play while they travel, the locations are a handful, and most of us only play from where we live and around it. Locking logins to the area u are in significantly reduces the risks of such attempts significantly. Of course, it can be optional to those who do not like the hassle.

I’d be happy with the ability to prevent my account from logging in from Asia in general… maybe Russia too.

They should create a checklist of login-able regions. So if i live in Singapore, and regularly travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, i can check both cities as registered locations, and my account can only be accessed by computers from those places.

Its not going to foil someone who knows every single detail about your life, but for the generic brute force hacker, its going to mess him up bad.

They already deny logins that are not within the IP ranges that you have verified, if you verified your email. If you verify your 1 IP range, then set your email to automatically delete the verification requests, that would basically be the same thing as only allowing logins from your specific country/province/local area.

Most MMOs do something like this in some form. Behind the scenes at the very least they flag connections outside of your usual region since they look suspicious.
