Make Skritt playable.
jajaja this is so funny, so you want to play a brainless race, so funny they are intelligent only when there are a ton of them together, as an NPC race they are funny as a playable race not so much, I’d rather see the barbaric style Jotun or even the Kodan would also make a much better choice for a playable race in an expansion.
Racial Elite = Hive Mind +100 to all attributes when near allies (passive)
Summon 4 Skirtt (Active) recharge 180sec
I would love to play as skritt but I see a simpler solution. In Tyria we already see technology such as wireless cameras. GOLEMS must have some sort of audio sensors and speaker systems (not to mention the steam creatures and how they may communicate) all this leads me to think it is more than possible for for the invention of radio, A group of skritt playing with GOLEM parts could have accidentally come across such technology and their particular ‘tribe’ has boomed because of it, all Skritt from that group in communication with each other at all times.
Such a system would have limitations, as it may not be able to cope with the Skritt talk speed thus slowing them down and preventing them from becoming Hyper intelligent. I really want a Skritt Engineer
When making the Skritt into a player race, either ignore that part of the fluff, assume that their lack of intelligence when not in the presence of other Skritt has been somewhat exaggerated, or make a weak excuse for it— even if it is simply that the PC Skritt have been experimented on or are slowly learning to communicate better with non-Skritt.
I really don’t think the implication of that text was meant to be that they were a hive-mind. In fact, in context it simply seems to mean that because they can communicate with one another at a very high speed, they can quickly ask and learn all the information all of the Skritt in the vicinity know about a particular topic. And with this ability, they might only bother to learn disjointed pieces of information themselves since they can usually rely on the “network” to give them the answer.
So, it’s not so much that they have a hive-mind and are less functional than a dog without the presence of others of their kind…. and more like giving someone with an IQ score of 80 a smartphone that can only access one chatroom on the internet.
I’d love to play a scritt!! Even I would kittening pay for it!
Ever since I first encountered the skritt I thought this would be a great idea. They are by far the most interesting race in Tyria!
Support.

I feel the need to reiterate what everyone else has been saying: The Skritt are incredibly stupid by themselves and thus would not work as a player race.
The Kodan or Tengu would be cool as a player race. Also I’ve heard there’s supposedly a new race introduced at the end of the personal story.
I feel the need to reiterate what everyone else has been saying: The Skritt are incredibly stupid by themselves and thus would not work as a player race.
I feel the need to reiterate: lore is mutable. Anything could happen to give individual Skritt the intelligence “required” to be an adventurer.
First up, I’d expect the tengu first before pretty much anything else to be the next playable if there will be simply since they have the most potential to be.
As for the Skritt, it’d seem fairly easy to overcome their intelligence issue with technology, which they’d be able to solve if you got enough of them together eventually. Perhaps they invent some apparatus that transmits their strange little growl signals over a vast distance. This would allow them to actually venture out without becoming dumb as a brick.
Of course I may be misunderstanding how their intelligence works, please correct if so.
Edit: I missed the post a little above with essentially the same idea.

Would Love to play as a Skritt I love the little guys an as a thought when you make your skritt you can pick a mate to follow you about an help you in combat. I also dont think everyone would play as them but I think they would make a good new player race something that you have to always have someone watching your back,as you cant really fight that good alone, sure you might get lucky an take something down alone but it’s faster an safer with another skritt by your side helping you. Please let this happen.
But they are incredibly dumb and dull-witted when alone, which means having Skritt who venture out and explore the world on their own (Putting them into the current Hero situation) will result in a lot of very stupid Skritt running about.
We already have lots of stupid Warriors running around. I don’t think we will notice the difference. However it is easy to work in a reason that they can work solo, have the player controlled Skritt all come out of Proxima Labs, where the Raving Asura was messing around with Skritt intelligence.
And I definitely WANT to play a Skritt.. It’s top of my list. It would be awesome fun to play. Can you imagine the Personal Storyline?

I would DEFINITELY play one! They’re adorable, and even being a bit dim-witted they can still understand basic things. I think a Skritt storyline would rock. I usually play Sylvari. I like to play anything but human.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! no god forsaken skritts!! i dont want kittened rats running around and mess up this fine game!
(btw im almost 100% that the next race will be Tengu. for alot of reasons.)
If ANet wanted to make Skritt playable all they have to do is tweak the lore a bit. Maybe say some Asura has made a wearable device that connects each Skritt to enough other Skritt that they get the intelligence boost and that the device works world wide.
I would love playable skritt so much.
A skritt storyline would be pure awesomeness. Just imagine it, with every other race the heroes are intelligent enough to know that the world is at risk and that they must venture forth into deadly situations for the good of all of Tyria…
But the skritt? It’d just be a bunch of loners who wandered off in search of shinies and ended up completely coincidentally becoming strong enough that people like Trahearne decided that they’d be worth having on board and just promised them loads of shiny stuff for helping take out the dragons.

Nah – nice painting though.
The Skritt could have a bigger role in the game. By making their culture more in depth and them a more serious race.
But I still think the Skritt should remain NPC only. The game would be boring if all good NPC races are playable.
Skritt are fine for a potential playable race. Their group intelligence would have no effect. reposted from another thread:
Lone skritt aren’t unintelligent in the sense that they can’t grasp concepts. they are simply easily distracted. So a group of skritt can make snap decisions and keep each other on track due to their impressive communication skills. Without a leader to focus their attention, they don’t get big projects done. but that’s okay for any individual in any playable race. We don’t need to be team players involved in large complicated civil projects.
“skritt simply communicate so rapidly that, when together, they can vet their ideas and choose the best one within seconds, rather than going with whatever plan each individual first conceived. Certainly, the skritt have exceptionally sharp auditory skills. They can communicate with one another almost instantly if they are within earshot. If you meet one skritt alone, he might not appear particularly intelligent, but if you meet several, they can discuss their surroundings in amazingly swift, almost ultrasonic chirrups and chitters, and are able to process information and make more intelligent decisions.”
Sktitt don’t need to be too intelligent (wise) to be playable. They just need to fill the classes.
“They don’t plan, they are not strategists beyond small tactics and survival techniques, and they are quick to take advantage when they see an opening. They are neither inventors nor scientists, but they are curious. Given enough time with someone else’s invention, a skritt will discover how it works—and possibly how to replicate it.”
So their ability to understand complicated concepts en-mass like learning magic, would fulfill the avenue for the magic based classes. Even when the skritt ventures out alone.
the only other issue I see is that lone skritt tend to die due to unwise descisions. But lone humans tend to die when they descide to fight ettin, so…….
“One skritt alone is a simple-minded individual, capable of performing basic tasks and keeping himself alive”
The lore-friendly fix for playing skrit would be to have your skrit “character” be a small group of skrit, not just a single skrit. This would open up a lot of potential for fun and unique behavior in the animations, art, and especially the dialogue.
