The trait line in guild wars 2 is okay….. But it really doesn’t leave a meaningful impact on your character and how he/she relates to their game world. Wouldn’t it be worthwhile to set the game up into a skill web or skill trees? Guild Wars 2 is a state of the art mmorpg and it needs a better skill system . for example a elementalist could have a skill tree of four elements. This allows the elementalists to fine tune their skills and be what they want to be. Another example is to have the guardian skill tree split up into 3 separate trees. Healing/buffs, Protection/stuns, and Damage. Does anyone feel the same way I do?

I’m not sure why the traits system replaces the myriad and very flexible skill trees in the more standard mmorpg’s like Rift , Forsaken world , Dungeon Seige 2 or Diablo 2 but I’m hoping for a major overhaul of the leveling up skill tree options in a future major update or expansion . At the moment there seems to be not much flexability in this area and to a degree very rigid and predictible options with choices in leveling up your character . Dungeon Seige 2 was my favourate leveling system of any PC game to date apart from Skyrim and oblivion .
My only guess as to why the levelingup system was designed like this was to make the leveling up options simple and to the point or just trying to fix or improve upon a tried and trusted system for character development , but not to my personal liking , but overall the game is really a winner.

The current trait system really isn’t much different from what you see in other MMO’s. It ‘s just not split up into 30 different icons that you assign individual points to. Though, it would be nice to have more customization in this department other than just spamming points in the "Arms’ Trait bar. I mean you get to choose 1 of 5 options every once you get to the end of a tier, but it feels watered down. Maybe its just the way they chose to display it. I’m sure if they put the EXACT same trait system in place but in a tree manner…everybody would cheer, even though it is doing the exact same thing.

I think for me, it just feels so straight forward because I usually am playing Rift when I’m not on GW2 and the Soul trees and class building are so diverse in that game, when I come to GW2 and am assigning points I feel cheated lol even though I’m really not with having different skills w/ different weapons and changing up my utility slots and armor “buffs” based on what strategy I am going for. Fire AoE DPS, Fire ST DPS, Water AoE Healing, etc. for my elementalist.

The diversity is there, its just about changing your mindset on how it is presented to you in GW2.

I hope this made sense…lol
