A major disappointing factor in GW2 is the fact that visually the developers/artists seemed to be very biased towards a few weapons:
Greatswords
Swords
I main a Guardian and run with a Hammer, and let me tell you there is a SEVERE lack of good looking hammers in this game. Even factoring exotic dungeon rewards, the only hammer I bought or can STAND to use is from HotW. And don’t get me started on how the legendary hammer looks.
I look at some of the weapon rewards from Arah and really start to wonder what people were thinking when drawing up concepts from the hardest dungeons in the game.
Why was so much work put into designing amazing looking swords but leaving others out?
I feel like this is the case for Daggers as well (legendary daggers should be SO noticeable, bigger, visually stunning) scepters, staffs, 1h MACES.. the list goes on. So much of this game is “cosmetic” appeal, yet there is such a lack of cosmetic options when it comes to weapons it is quite frustrating.
Please take into consideration the people that don’t play warriors or GS guardians and please think about adding some worthwhile weapon skins (even re-doing the old..bad ones..)
I dislike the GS favoritism, i mean THREE legendary GS’s! Every other wep. type only has 1 to pick from. Hopefully more will be released later on.
I fully agree.
However I feel its not just the cosmetic design but the mindset of developers on how the weapons should look that is too close-minded – ever notice that every mace seems like a round head on a stick (arguably even the legendary) and every hammer is a rock or rectangle on a stick. Why not a flail mace skin (1-3 chains?), greataxe greatsword skin or a halberd staff? I am of the opinion many greathammers lack the same level of detail and intricacy as greatswords on the whole as well.
I also feel the overuse of great swords is much more then cosmetic though and that often the viability/situational-ness of weapons channels people more toward the greatsword. This is a design flaw and the cosmetic appeal certainly doesn’t help matters.
With that said I think positive cosmetic changes to some of the other weapons may help in easing the over use of greatswords out there. I for one would happily switch to a flail mace on my guardian given the chance/choice.
Edit: There is a anchor skin for the hammer, but The Briny Deep animation is broken.

Have you seen the legendary Hammer? Compare it’s effect to the lame skybox that is any of those greatswords. Have you seen the bows, with their flowers, unicorns, butterflies, and rainbows?
Let’s look at the slew of generic greatswords... Or how such a huge number of them look stupidly impossible to wield... And then there’s the clipping. They can’t stop clipping with everything...
Just because everybody wants to be a Final Fantasy hero with a stupidly big sword does not mean they actually look cool.
Well, one problem i see with the weapondistribution is that everything is themed. We only get them in a set. We have a theme and then every armor and weapon is based around it.
It is something i don`t like.
Guild Wars 1 had a better approach there. Weapons were designed around the Type and there were some pretty amazing ones i wish to come back (like the gauntlet focus).
There were “set” weapons, however these were rewarded at the end of the story or the end-game quests.
Right now i feel the designchoice rather restrictive, not realy to go all out like i expected. Sure we have a good amount Skins, but them beeing all bound to a theme makes them kinda less “amazing”.
